The 301 is a staple in the knife community!! There's nothing like a big working stockman riding in your pocket for the day ready to put in work!! Thanks for sharing Tom!!
You're welcome, Big J! Yes, it's a great feeling having the 301 in your pocket. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
Thanks for the Two for Tuesday’s videos. For several years now, I’ve carried a Buck 371 Stockman knife in my pocket. I consider that knife my work knife. It cuts every time I need it to. The knife fit and finish on the 371 is equal to that on my Buck 301, which I do not carry as often. They both have a good heat treatment on the blades, stay sharp and easy to sharpen when needed. They both come with Buck’s Forever Warranty. I appreciate your comparison. - Tennessee Smoky
You're welcome, Tennessee! Glad that you found the information useful. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
Keep an eye out for the 371 barehead with stainless bolsters and G-10 covers. It's a nice one with a different look and feel. There are some collectors who refuse to consider any of the China made Bucks. Even though the knives are made overseas, the designing, quality control, service, distributing and marketing are all done right here in the states. The way I see it, if selling China versions helps Buck stay profitable, allowing their factory to continue operating in Post Falls, then we all benefit from their continued production of USA made knives too. Thanks for the informative video Tom.
You're welcome, Pezzeroni! I appreciate your feedback and thoughts. Thanks for dropping by.
Good morning Tom
Great two for Tuesday, and two excellent examples !!!! Really enjoyed the video, and always enjoy the history !!!! Your points on China made Buck knives in my opinion were spot on!!!!
Thanks for sharing 👍 and have a great day brother 😀
Thanks for your feedback, Terry. You have really gotten me to focus on the Buck Stockmans! I appreciate you, my friend.
The 301 is definitely on my list. Thanks for the comparison.
You're welcome, RJ! I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Excellent comparison video! Those are beautiful knives. Thanks for sharing your Buck wisdom Tom. It is much appreciated.
Cheers, Dubya 🤠

You’re welcome!
I’ve got both knives as well, and really like both of them. You can definitely tell a difference in the edge retention between the two, with the USA 420 HC being a lot better. But for the average day’s work, the 420 J2 works just fine as well. Great video, buddy!
I concur with your assessment. The only real difference between the two is the blade steel. Thanks for your feedback, David.
Glad to here gus won! A very nice pair of knives. Great video 👍
Thanks, Jeremy!
Both look great. I only have one Buck stockman. The USA made 303. I have been carrying it a lot lately. It’s small but mighty. I hope my next Buck will be a canoe. That one will be made in China but I’m not worried about it at all. Thanks Tom.
You're welcome, Dean! The 303 is indeed a great knife. Good luck on your next purchase, and thanks for watching.
Got the 301 to replace the Old Timers I’ve carried since 3rd grade, when production moved overseas. Not that I have anything against Chinese made slip joints, owning Rough Ryders and others.
I'm with you, I prefer USA made. Unfortunately, lots of production has moved overseas. Thanks for watching, Doug.
Nice comparison Tom
I have a USA 303 that I bought in an antique store
The Buck Stockman always looks strange to me bc every other Stockman seems to have a full flat grind while Buck apparently uses the same hollow grind as on their fixed blades
Have you compared cutting with the Buck and the Case Stockman
Thanks and God bless
I have not tried a cutting test. There are advantages and disadvantages to both grinds. I appreciate your question, and thanks for stopping by, my friend.
They are both nice knives! I always will get the American made First! Have a wonderful day!!!
I am with you Mike, I am trying to fill out my collection of USA made Bucks. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Both great knives Tom. Of coarse I prefer the USA one, but I like that valox a little more. Their burl wool is great too. Great video my friend!
Thanks Randy. By the way, did you see that Terry was put in the TH-cam jail?
@@knifedelights7473 Yeah, YT is ridiculous sometimes.
Great video! I have been wondering how the US and China made knives compared to one another. I hate to admit it but the Chineseium ones would make a great work knife if they are to be used rough and replaced every year or so after they are used up. I have the US versions with wood covers. A few people have told me that the synthetic covered knives are built better than the wood ones. That is something that I would like to find out.
I think the real difference is the blade steel. Other than that, they are pretty well built. Thanks for watching, LCK.
Hey Tom,
Great video!
Love the 301, mine is a Chinese version but it’s still a great knife. One I carry, used and enjoy.
Definitely want to pick up the US version and will do at some point.
Thanks brother 😎🙏🏻
You're welcome, Sean! Thanks for dropping by.
Thanks so much Tom for explaining why some buck knives still have to be made in china!!!! Stay well buddy be safe and I’ll catch you later 😊
You're welcome, Pete! Glad you enjoyed the video. Keep charging, my friend.
Good idea for a video "Buck" master. I have this idea that made in USA buck knives have the hammer, knife, nail shield and made in China knives have a Script Buck shield. Is that correct 🤔
Currrently, USA Buck slipjoints use the traditional shield. However, shields have changed over time. I will be showing the different shields in upcoming videos. Thanks for the question, Rasputin. I appreciate you stopping by.
I like the USA Bucks more, but I do carry the china Bucks to save my good ones. Great videos. Stay Safe.
if you only buy made in America all of your knives will be good ones. Not garbage made by your sworn enemies. Wake Up!
Thanks Thomas. I have somewhat the same perspective. I appreciate you stopping by, my friend.
I buy China made and other countries brands of knives for collection purposes and using them. I also buy Chinese food at my local Chinese takeout restaurant. Chinese food is Chinese; a traditional stockman made in China is a copy of an American made knife. Originals always cost more for that reason, it is what you want to collect more is the choice you make.👍🤔
Good perspective. I buy the US made as much as possible. But many Buck patterns are now only made in China. Thanks for watching, Gizmo.
