    Flagrant is a comedy show that delivers unfiltered, unapologetic, and unruly hot takes directly to your dome piece. In an era dictated by political correctness, hosts Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, along with AlexxMedia and Mark Gagnon, could care less about sensitivities. If it’s funny and flagrant it flies. I'm very impressed by Andrew here. First the fact that he asks who wrotes that "Napoleon was the worst". Of course were the British. Is the victors who writes history.
    And it wasn't Napoleon who invented the total war state, it was the French Revolution that call the masses to defend Paris during the war of the first coalition. Napoleon participated there but was a small fish. But the facts that he knows how total war change and everything is used to supply the MIC is impressive. Like he read Ernst Junger "Total Mobilization". Good job Andrew.

      Well it still was generally agreed throughout all of Europe that Napoleon was an asshole, he kept backstabbing his allies, while also declaring war on neutral smaller countries, and everyone was genuiely afraid of him because he expanded the French Revolution/Civil War to a continental war and no one knew if he was going to ever stop his conquest, same as Hitler tbh.

    SO PUMPED for this movie. Napoleon was sooooo badass. Pissed all over the idea of divine right to rule that's why all the prissy kings of Europe DESPISED him. They hated the thought of kissing this lesser nobles ass. His men loved him so much even after blood curlingly horrifying retreat from Russia that made the Nazi retreat look like a game of tag. And a disastrous defeat at Leipzig being outnumbered like 3:1. They broke him out of Elba gave him ANOTHER army and rode for him again into Waterloo, again despite being hopelessly outnumbered facing the combined might of Russia, Prussia, Austria, and England etc. This is the type of dude that the Trumpers should be following.

    Napoleon was not short. That was British propaganda. Napoleon also did not event the war state, that existed through-out different places in history. In fact, the middle class was born from it. The first known middle class were referred to as Yeoman in middle English. Bowman in modern English. Yes, the first poor to make the middle class were experts with Bow use and making in England. Especially the Welsh longbow.
    The bowmen were so important to English history that even today, they do not flip the middle finger for an insult...its the insult invented during the 100 years war with France, by the bowmen who would flip their 2 bow fingers to the French as an insult letting them know that as long as they have the fingers to pull a string, they are going to keep killing them.
    Anyway, a percentage of everything in England for around 400 years was always for the war efforts and the royalty practicly controlled all blacksmiths, leather-smiths, ship-wrights and other industries.

    I've studied Napoleon and don't usual comment on videos, but here's a bit of history in case anyone is interested:
    Napoleon wasn't actually Italian he was Corsican (they're different). After France chose Napoleon as a leader (he was considered a native) he invaded his homeland Corsica and conjoined it into France. Italy was only put back into the mix much later after Napoleon was proven to be an astute general.
    Also, Napoleon wasn't actually that short relative to his time. He was 5'6 which was considered the average height of the time, him being short was British propaganda (which was spread for nationalism encouragement). This is how the "Napoleon Complex" arose.

    • @Freakishd
      @Freakishd ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Napoleone Buonaparte is an Italian name no matter how you cut it. French was his third language, which he only learned at 10 years old.

    • @nn-taleb
      @nn-taleb ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Freakishd yep that's right. His senior ancestry line owned land in Florence & Livorno, which is where they adopted the name Buonaparte in the first place.
      After Italy sold Corsica to the French (since they couldn't handle the upheaval caused by Paoli who was Corsica's elected representative), Napoleon's father was forced to abandon his Corsica ideals and adopt beliefs more suited towards the French (a decision Napoleon would later despise his father for).
      However, during this time Napoleon was born along with his 12 other siblings. Since they no longer could keep their ancestral name they changed it to the far more French sounding name Bonaparte rather than the traditional Buonaparte (as you mentioned). This change was not only made to all their surnames but also to Napoleon's siblings first names (e.g. "Giuseppe Buonaparte", Napoleon's favorite brother, changed to "Joseph Bonaparte").
      btw side note to your last point: He learned French by age 10 (started learning at age 7), and spoke it very brokenly. In fact, later on in his life a painter of his quoted that he had no clue how a general of his standing could speak with such a think accent (a trademark of his Corsican tongue). Luckily for him, standardized language hadn't been invented for the French so him having poor grammar didn't matter and he was still understood by the prefects.

    Wrong about the Greeks not seeing themselves as Greeks-but true it wasn't a nation in the modern sense. Even in ancient texts, historians refer to the peoples of that landmass as Hellenes; Persians even used generalisations for Athenians and Spartans, grouping them together as one people. It was in a similar way to how Italy was during the Renaissance. City states, but they still understood they were the same people.

    Aside from the use of massed artillery the way he did, Napoleon also invented the Corps system for his army, dropping the massive supply trains that used to follow armies and have smaller, more mobile and most importantly a lot faster smaller corps that would meet up with each other to form a larger army again. They lived off the land (which is a nice way of saying they pillaged) and had only the most necessary things with them needed for warfare. If a corps would meet an enemy their orders were to retreat and group up with other corps until superiority is reached. Each corps had infantry, skirmishers, cavalry, artillery, sappers etc. as opposed to sending 10.000 men on foot in a long ass column through the land with a baggage train of another 5000 people following them around and the cavarly is somewhere else entirely until they meet up at a location pre-determined. The Coalition adapted the corps system later on in the napoleonic wars and their strategy for the war was essentially: Don't fight Napoleon, fight his Marshals - if you find Napoleon, turn around.
    Napoleon more or less reformed the "Army" into something similar we see today, WW1 reformed the company and the squad into smaller units of specialised soldiers (they had literally some guys with 20 grenades strapped to them and a pistol to clear trenches, there are photos of it, it looks absolutely insane) instead of having a squad of 30 riflemen and no grenades or machine guns, and WW2 reformed infantry tactics into the NCO system we have today (at least in the west).

    The British make no bones about the fact that they really don't like Napoleon. Ironically, my interest in Napoleon was due to English speaking historians writing about Napoleon, since I don't read or speak French. So the persistent discussions surrounding him and his importance as a mover and shaker of world history, while evident and influential in how the world is shaped today, is all due to Anglo-American narrative histories of Napoleon. But at the end of the day, the majority of people will barely scrape the surface of Napoleonic history, because the Napoleonic Age simply isn't well represented in film, as opposed to WW2 in film or sword and sandals epics like Gladiator.

    There have been more biographies written about Napoleon than any other person in history. Also, egyptology can be traced back to Napoleon's fascination with all things Egypt. Hope the movie's good but Ridley Scott's track record has been pretty dodgy the last 20 plus years.

    • @elangelyt7738

      Agree, Napoleon took historians and painters and a bunch of people to record what they saw there.
      Also did you saw how Napoleon attacks the Pyramids in the movie that's complete BS.

      @@elangelyt7738 Saw several historians watch the trailer and critique it and that seems to be the glaring accuracy problem. Most of them thought the movie looked good but one in particular really felt the movie looked ridiculous. Hope it's good but really wished Kubrick would have made his version with Nicholson as Napoleon in the early 70s. When Kubrick backed off because of Waterloo with Rod Stieger which I quite liked he made Clockwork so it wasn't all a loss.

      I disagree with Ridley Scott's track record, The Last Duel was an excellent movie with great performances from Adam Driver and Matt Damon and the shorty that looks like Elsa from Frozen.

    • @jeffreysmith694
      @jeffreysmith694 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zachdirects I loved the duel at the end but imo the movie was just average. Think Affleck and Damon casting was a gimmick. What really pissed me off was that the Rashomon telling of the story. They were versions of all 3 characters truth. That the men's story of the events were labeled their truth but the female was labeled THE TRUTH was overtly feminist and completely threw me out of the film. It would have been far better to let the audience decide who was telling the truth and how much truth. This ending seemed very heavy handed. I've seen everything Scott's done and again imo he's been wildly up and down. For every Gladiator and Black Hawk Down there's The Counselor, Prometheus, Alien Covenant and Gucci. I see them all hoping for the best but he's lost his fastball. Still think no other director had a better first 3 films.The Duellists, Alien and Blade Runnner are all timers with BR being my all time favorite.

    Napoleon killed millions, and he did not end the monarchy, he just put himself and his family in charge. He once had 20,000 Egyptian POWs slaughtered in a day, after negotiating their surrender for free transfer to Egyptian land.
    Napoleons once told Metternich that he had "only" lost his 500,000 German soldiers in Russia, Metternich should not be angry because the French losses were minimal. Metternich had to explain to Napoleon that Austrians are Germans too.

    • @pio4362
      @pio4362 ปีที่แล้ว

      Austrians aren't necessarily Germans. With the proclamation of the Austrian empire, it could have meant anyone from Central Europe (Croat, Czech, Hungarian etc) which was all under the Habsburg dynasty.
      " He once had 20,000 Egyptian POWs slaughtered in a day, after negotiating their surrender for free transfer to Egyptian land."
