"The House Of Atreus" is arguably the greatest Metal concept/opera album ever made... it's hard to figure what happened next, David Defeis seems to completely have lost the plot, the "Marriage" albums were super cool, "Invictus" is arguably the greatest Power Metal album ever recorded, right there with Judas Priest's "Painkiller", "House..." are just sheer majesty... and then nothing for years, and then the OK-ish "Visions Of Eden", which wasn't a bad album, but something already seemed wrong, the album sounded too much computer-made, Pursino's guitar greatness is nowhere to be heard (does he really play on any track ?), David's voice seems diminished, and he tries too hard too fill the void with his shrieks... but still, it's a cool album on its own, but the following, "Black Night Bacchanalia" was complete garbage, aside from the opening track ( "By The Hammer Of Zeus..." ), which was arguably one of their best post-2000 songs, but the rest was of no interest... 2015's "Nocturnes..." is a decent late-career album, you know, like late Iron Maiden or Judas Priest albums, which aren't great, but still OK for a band that age, quite enjoyable, although remarkable guitars are still sorely missed (what happened to Pursino ?), but all in all, it has some good moments (Lucifer's Hammer, Black Sun - Black Mass, Persephone, We Disapear, Glamour) and sounds somewhat like a modern take of their Noble Savage/Age Of Consent years, certainly their best album since "Visions Of Eden"... but then, they last offering, I don't know what to think or say about it...
i was just talking about this - what a great album! one of the best. And everything after is just guys in their parent's basement. what happened!? I really think this is one of the best albums ever!
Absolutely true. It doesn't help how goofy the music videos are haha. Visions of Eden was the first album of theirs I've listened and still think it's one of their best. I wish David kept adapting more obscure mythological/legendary stories into the metal operas, but alas.
Oh My God this song really bringing back Manowar memories of my teenhood.
True. Virgin Steele came to my aid when I was starving for more Manowar material, and they certainly delivered in their own unique way!
Majestic song !!! One of the greatest of Virgin ever!!!
This is power!!!
We Are Still Proud Of You David DeFeis, Majestic Lord Of EpiCNeSS, simply LEGENDARY! \m/
