- Melee Speed stat is often neglected by players in Terraria. I mean, what even is a Melee Speed anyway? Well, it affects your sword swings. But there's actually more to it, increasing the projectile speed and range as well. That's all great, and there are many ways to increase the melee speed. Sadly, there aren't many ways to reduce the melee speed ─ You could say there's literally no way of doing so. Some debuffs reduce the stat, but not by much. So I just injected too many debuffs to my character.

That Terraria save editor is a blast when playing with friends. When my roommates and I were playing on a local server I used it to make myself into thematic bosses for them to team up against. The one I can remember most vividly had me using all the bee equipment. I gave myself much more health than they all had and several buffs to keep me in the fight longer. Once they widdled me down to certain HP benchmarks I would changed to a different bee weapon and adjusted my tactics accordingly. It was a blast!
2:22 this is likely because use speed an animation speed is different on some melee weapons. Animation speed determines how quickly it moves and is effected by melee speed. While use speed determines how quick some melee weapons can spawn projectiles, and isn't effected by melee speed. But some weapons, like the terra blade, use melee speed to determine how fast it can spawn projectiles.
I'd like to see someone try doing a playthrough with these conditions. It would be fun to see how all the negative but also positive side effects play into the game
I dont know if it would be possible since if were talking -96 melee speed it's def not possible though because you would lack the damage to beat any boss required for progression such as WoF. with 44 weak debuffs though I feel like it would be. I'll give it a shot and let you know though!

The reason why you don't get weak debuff because you are immune to it. Ankh Shield is the problem of not getting the debuff

Infinite melee speed breaks the game.
Positive melee speed is just Vanilla Terraria without modifications.
Negative melee speed breaks the game.
Now we only need infinite negative melee speed, and the perfect balance of 0 melee speed and the melee speed chaos will be completed!

You should've tried whips, they also get effected by melee speed
having melee speed go over -100% sounds like a pretty interesting challenge, provided it's at the point where it goes into terra shield range

Attack speed in Terraria, and Dota shows the potential for stats in games, especially in MMO RPGs.
Attack speed not only affects physical meelee weapons but whips as well.
And in games like LoL some magic casters imbue their basic attack with magic damage or projectiles.
I wish more games explored this like crafting or finding weapons in Guild Wars 2 that fire your meelee as a projectile, or turns your on hit ability into a long range ability.
Taking an ability's effects into an aoi field when an enemy's struck.
So a class like a thief/assassin who specialize in single target focus could use that weapon to have their average single target become a powerful crowd control.
Or if you have a weapon that heal nearby allies for each hit based on your magic power. Then get a lot of attack speed to more rapidly heal allies. And with your magic focus class, it makes it much more effective.

Dude became an anime protagonist whose blade is faster than light itself and thus doesn't look like it's even moved... Slicing at literally uncountable swings per second.
Did you test how fast each enemy takes damage? I've played with mods that edit attack speed, and it makes some weapons that aren't affected by melee speed reduce enemy I-frames, dealing damage much faster
well not with every weapon against every enemy in game, but targets like Bosses, slimes and Target Dummies seem to just blow up with... the power. from 44 weakness debuff.
But of course, I haven't tested every single cases, so you better check it out by yourself by giving yourself a lot of weakness debuff!... i guess.

Should be easy enough thanks to terrasvr! Hero's mod should be helpful too, because the negative speed could be looping around to the highest number of speed in terms of I-frames, but probs not the animations
I'll check through that as well, to see if there's a difference and if it's unique to debuffs or anything else

3:10 Normally melee speed doesn't influence mining speed, but the 1.4.4. port to tModloader came out with some bugs, allowing for mining speed to be influenced by melee speed.
_But why it interacts like that with minus melee speed? Pff, I don't know, integer overflow?_
Weakness debuff also tempers with mining speed, so that's probably why.

Fun fact: Zenith Benefits from “Slower” attack speed, because with high/maxed attack speed the Zenith will only launch out “Zenith” projectiles which does not home to nearby enemies
but with lower Attack speed the Zenith will mostly launch “Other Swords” that aren’t Zenith’s, this Swords will Home on enemies making it easier to hit them despite the weapon already covering a large amount of space and distance.

What if you have just enough to put you into the negatives and use melee damage buffs to get positive damage?
It is not possible to reduce Melee damage below 0 unfortunately, as seen in the video.
