Thank you for bringing up the point about not emptying enough can reduce supply. Our team of IBCLCs often get asked if we have wearable pumps. In truth we have prototypes but have yet to mass produce because of this concern. We like to say the 'traditional' pumps are considered primary and wearables can be considered 'secondary.' Hopefully after more perfecting, we will feel safe to deliver a wearable version to the market soon. We work so hard to make milk for our babies! Understandably everyone's lifestyle should be considered when choosing what's best for their bodies.
Currently pregnant with my second. I was not able to breastfeed my first. I really want to breastfeed this time around. I saw that Elvie now has a hospital grade pump. As an IBLC, what would your thoughts be on a pump like that? Does hospital grade mean better suction for emptying the breast?
I would love a video on what you two did for sleep training or sleep support for your little one after the newborn stage.

Kortney-the Willow I reviewed in this video is the Willow 3.0! I think the GO has more traditional suction but I don’t know (haven’t tried it yet). I’m definitely going to try the GOs with baby #2 and will make a video-but don’t know much about them yet. Best of luck to you on your pumping journey!!!

Love the channel. I had twins 5 months ago and have the Elvie. I love that I don't have to have cords everywhere while working at my desk. I still have to pump using my regular pump 2-3x per day though.
What do you mean by regular pump? So you use the Elvis and another?
@@destinyshoopman3452 yes I was using a Motif Luna pump that plugs into the wall and the Elvie when I didn't have time to be stationary.
Both breast pumps are fsa, hsa and insurance compatible for anyone that wants one. And they actually don’t run $500 for both the elvie actually is only $400 coming for both, but you have the option to get only one as well which is $200 something. Again both you can get through insurance or hsa and fsa
Wonderful, I’m due in a month and a half and already got the Elvie. I was hoping to use it in the car or occasionally, as I hope to primarily breast feed. This information came at a great time for me. It was hard to choose between the two with just looking at basic reviews.
I'm expecting my first in March and researching the best way to pump as a high school math teacher, so I don't have to take a "time out" from teaching every day especially if I'm not lucky enough to have a co-teacher. I have yet to finish watching your review but imagine my surprise at discovering one of my high school classmates is now teaching me about breast pumps on TH-cam. Glad to see small-town people doing great things!

Glad I seen this… sound is definitely important to me and glad you demonstrated that feature for both. If I decided to buy a wearable it would definitely be elvie.
I’ve read several comparison articles between these two brands, and this is the best breakdown I’ve seen. It was so helpful to hear them and to see you actually wear them. And you brought up points that none of the sources I’ve read even mentioned, like how the willow does constant suction vs traditional intermittent suction on the Elvie.

Tbh I did a lot of research between the Willow 3 and the Willow Go and tbh the Willow Go is the way easier, more affordable option. It’s still louder but it feels more akin to my spectra when it comes to emptying my breasts when I crank it up. Anyway, the Willow Go model is a game changer as far as pumping goes, the new model seems really good for if you need sanitary bags but honestly it’s a money grab. I exclusively have to pump for my nicu baby and the Go has really saved my breastfeeding journey. One big negative though is you can’t stick your pump parts in the fridge if you’re a lazy bum like me who used to only wash my parts like three times a day. So I do a couple good hand washes and sanitize/dry the pump parts in my little sanitizer machine now.
Can you as well review the new Elvie Stride wearable pump please!? Lots of people love it and it’s cheaper than the original Elvie and said it’s “hospital grade” pump! Thank you!

Hi! I’m currently 12 weeks pregnant with my second child. I used and LOVED my spectra s1 3 years ago when I would pump for my first. For this pregnancy I’ve been looking into hands free options to go along with my spectra and was so torn because breastfeeding is so personal and those pumps are not cheap. Thank you SO SO much for breaking down the pros and cons of each pump in such a realistic way that answered all of my concerns, especially the suction style. I have so much more to consider now but it will definitely help me to decide which pump to pick. Since you said you would do more videos on pumps I will hold off on making my final choice until you have gone through more! Thanks again!!
If you’re in the states try to see if insurance will cover some of the cost.

I know you are a Dr. but I couldn't help but notice your neck, have you got your thyroid checked? when looking at the video its on the left that seemed enlarged. My husband had thyroid cancer so this concern comes from the heart- and maybe you are already aware of this.
What were his symptoms
As some one who had thyroid cancer there where no symptoms just a large mass growing near my facial nerve and saliva glands

-I really appreciate your review. I had the Willow 3 for exclusive pumping in 2020 (my 2nd baby was in NICU and refused to BF from me once she realized she didn't have to work for it from a bottle, lol). I am a psych nurse in clinic and sometimes hospital. I had a Medela Symphony that I would use (usually at home for comfort). The Willow was great for work as hands free but because of constant suction, I think I just got to the point I was tired of it and uncomfortable (I quit pumping at 3 months, sadly). I also had issues with reusable containers after 2 months not working and the company sent me tips, those didn't help, I bought new containers and it would eventually not read that I was pumping and not get out of stimulation mode. The added costs of the Willow just make me think that I'm not going that route thus time and will try Elvie instead. My BCBS insurance covered Willow in full. My nips are elastic per lactation consultant and stretch very easily which may have contributed to my discomfort. I will try the Elvie this time and hope for the best given its more natural suction. I feel the constant suck on the Willow really didn't help with my let down and I was never fully emptied which I desperately needed to avoid mastitis which I had twice. I liked that the Willow had the bag option too but it got pricey. My 3rd baby should be here in 2 months or less, so i hope to breastfeed but will be ready for back to work with a hands free pump. I bought the willow and it's also my greatest regret. I think I'm going to stop pumping because it doesn't work. Heavy on chest, reusable containers never work and I had them replaced rwicd
1) how did you get them to cover willow? I have BCBS but they said they don't cover any of the wireless pumps?

@@christamyers8647 I have blue shield of california and they cover half of the wearable ones for me. Another thing you can do is only get a half pump, so just one of them, and it will be half price.
I’ve exclusively pumped for over a year and both Elvie and Willow are a gamble. You either hate it or love it, there’s no in between.
What do you love?? I am planning on exclusivity pumping.

I am very thankful I invested in the elvie because I could not be an outpatient physical therapist assistant without it. It is just not possible to take 20mins away from my patient's 60min appt. I do have to be careful not to lean too far forward with it. Very excited to hear the comparison of the 2 from someone else in thw medical field. It will help with baby number 2

@@kaylaperkins8309 I try not to drop my chest to parallel to the floor. I can still change out equipment at work and pick up the baby. I just make sure to squat not lean, as we should anyway. I am not one of those people that can sit still well.
Yess! Okay you are the perfect review and comment for me. I’m also a OP PTA and trying to figure out what’s going to be best. How was the suction? Was it strong enough for you at least to get you by during the day.

I currently use the Momcozy S9 wearable pump and the flanges are silicon super comfortable, and more affordable. $100 and gets the job done!
Ugh, I wish I had that experience lol, mine CONSTANTLY leaked, no matter what position I was in. I lost sooooo much milk. So sad. They were even put together correctly.

Agreed!! Doesn’t hold a great charge I only use it 2 times at work and I have to charge it for next day. But love the Elvie overall! Worth the investment especially if you plan on having a few little ones

Hi ! You made my morning with the Willow and Elvie. I’m a new mommy to be 16 weeks today and I’m doing my research about breast pumping because I want to breast bump as long as I can. I’m freaking out with the shortage of formula and scared that I might not produce breast milk. What are suggestions or guide you have on producing/keeping breast milk to keep follow coming ? and my second question/concern which spectra pump do you use or recommend ?
Oh hun, don’t stress. I breastfed my son for 19 months without ever needing to supplement with formula. Drinking enough water is major! I drank 4 litres a day. I also continued taking my prenatal vitamins with dha for baby’s brain development. In the beginning I would pump for 15 minutes after I nursed my little guy so my milk came in in an abundance! Nutritional eating is a major factor as well. Sleep also impacts milk production, we co-slept and my breasts were readily available so I would barely even have to wake up to nurse (I’m a light sleeper). You got this hun, your body will know what to do

Have you tried pasta or french fries?
Everything that's soft enough (apart from the usual suspects: raw milk cheese, honey, raw meat, etc.) should be fine. Just try some different foods and see how it goes! 😉
We had great success with soft french fries, pretzels and pasta in the beginning. If your baby isn't interested yet or doesn't like it, pause for a week and then try again.

How long does the battery life last for the Elvie and the Willow? I plan on using one of these for 3-3.5 hour time intervals in between my breaks at my 12 hour work shifts
I wish I would have watched this before buying willow! Literally some of the worst pumps I’ve ever used and the most expensive… I had no sleep and bought these on a whim thinking they would be great, was very wrong. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I just want to put this out there… call your insurance company and check! I have blue cross blue shield through team care and they cover any pump 100% no cap on price. It even said wearables like willow and elvie. I was just about to buy one but I called and checked first thank goodness

Wow, that’s great. My insurance only covers certain models (re: cheap models). But also, I would want to use that benefit to purchase my main pump. I do want to get one of these pumps too for when I go to work, but I still want to use my main one.
Great review! Idk why anyone would buy the willow in general, but especially after watching this! If you’re gonna pay $500 for a pump, it may as well be the Elvie and not all the cons that Willow has.
I loved my willow! I was literally able to demo a deck with a crowbar while I pumped. She also ignores that it’s really easy to reuse the bags, so you don’t actually need new bags for each pumping session. The Willow isn’t perfect, but it’s the best option for people who need a truly closed system
I felt the same way ... I love my spectra as well when I was breastfeeding I felt the willow pump was a waste of money I had to keep calling & even had to replace mine

Hi! I had a spectra from my previous pregnancy. The last time I used it was 2 years ago. Do you think I can continue to use it alternating with a new Elvie? So I don’t have to buy 2 new pumps. Or does a spectra go bad by time ? I’m talking about the motor only but I’m definitely gonna buy new supplies( tubing, bottles, flanges.. etc)
Sure you can! Where I live there is a service provided by pharmacies to rent an electric breast pump. If that's safe, you should be fine. 😉👍

Hi! Could you guys possibly due a video on baby crib mattresses? I am overwhelmed by the options. We think a spring mattress is best compared to foam, but curious what you guys have or recommend. So many options and so many opinions on what is "best" or "safest" so wondering if you have any recommendations for navigating this.
Most recommended ive heard is the Newton if you can afford it.

Thanks for this video. I have tried one wearable breast pump and I hated it. It made my boobs bleed, but it was one I got off Amazon for around $60. But I more than anything wanted to be able to pump without taking off my shirt.

I am 5 weeks PP and exclusively pumping. My primary pump is the Spectra Synergy Gold, which I love and I recently purchased the Imani 2 from Legendairy Milk. I love my spectra as it really empties me, but the Imani is hit or miss. Some sessions it seems to empty me and others I find an hour later I need to go back to my spectra and pump for relief. I am a teacher and will be going back to work in a few more weeks. I am still considering the Elvie or Willow as the Imani is very bulky and I’m just not thrilled with the performance of it.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to create these videos! I have learned so much. Quick question about the booster vaccine and first trimester. I am 6 weeks pregnant and worried about the potential for high fever if I get the booster vaccine during my first trimester. Is there any evidence indicating that waiting (and quarintining😎) until 2nd trimester to get the booster (or any vaccine) shot could mitigate against potential harm from vaccine immune response fever? Thank you! (And as always, I plan to consult my OB😊)
Hi, I’m 20 weeks now, but I got my booster at 16 weeks. I spoke with my midwife because I had a high fever with the second shot. We decided to wait till the second trimester and I was fine. The side effects were a lot less severe with the booster thankfully Speak with your OB or midwife and get their advice!
I’m not a dr but from what my midwife told me and from what I’ve seen recommended in their videos there’s no reason to wait IF you have a chance of being exposed to covid. Otherwise waiting till your second trimester is fine.
I didn’t have any reaction to my first two shots (only a little sore where the shot was given) so it could depend on your body too.
If you felt very ill or had a high fever with the first two shots that’s when I would wait personally. But remember too people get sick and have fevers all the time and still have healthy babies. I think it goes off of your risk of exposure and comfort level. I didn’t want to do anything for the first trimester but sleep haha.

There’s no increased risk that’s been seen from these vaccines to babies at any time during pregnancy.
If it makes you feel better to isolate and wait until later in pregnancy, you can do that, but we would recommend to our loved ones not to wait given the increased risks of COVID to women who are pregnant. - the best way to keep baby healthy is to keep mom healthy.
@@TheDoctorsBjorkman I hated when our OBGYN told us this as if there have been years of the proper studies done. NOBODY TRULY KNOWS. So to tell all these mothers there aren’t any possible side effects and you should just take it should be a crime. Get back to me when all of these babies turn 10>15>18, when these mothers have 2 more babies after their boosters, when there aren’t literally drastic side affects in the beginning stages of the vaccine.

Elvie now has a hospital grade pump, so the suction is supposed to be much better, and you're supposed to be able to fully empty the breast. I would be curious about what your thoughts would be on that one?

Have you tired the Elvie Stride!? I was trying to see which Elvie one to get through insurance and they have both. I use spectra S2 but for me it honestly doesn’t have a strong pull I find myself hand expressing still after🥺
@@destinyshoopman3452 I'm finding out that even though the elvie says hospital grade suction, I'm still having to go in with a manual pump or hand express after. Was only getting 2 oz out when using the pump. And that was total from both breasts. Meanwhile when using a manual pump I was able to get 4 oz out. And that was just from my left side

I'm in my first trimester and after seeing everything is going well at my first ultrasound I'm letting myself start to plan. I'm big on making lists, even lists of lists I need to make haha. I work from home, get 3 months of paid leave, and really am motivated to breastfeed. I like the idea of a hands free option but at $500 I think I'd like to know breastfeeding will work for me and understand my supply before making that kind of investment. Do you think it's necessary to have a pump ready for when you get home from the hospital?
Speaking from my recent experience, having some type of pump helps because it lets you see if your milk has come and how much you can get. I wish someone told me to get a pump because for 4 days, my poor baby was starving as I thought I was “nursing” without realizing my milk hadn’t come. I’d nurse for good 40 minutes and would put the baby down thinking the baby had enough milk when in fact, I barely had any. I so wish someone mentioned to pump so I could see how much I’m giving the baby. Even a hand held manual pump works if your intending on using it just for few days for measuring purposes.

Honestly I would try to get my milk to come in by pumping around the time of my due date. If you're ready it helps labor begin and also it'll allow you to start developing colostrum before the baby arrives.
I had the opposite problem and my milk can in really heavy making me too full and it hard for my baby to latch. So having a pump available to release some of the pressure was really helpful
@@tanazakbar831 although it's important to note thty your baby usually will get more from you than the pump can from you because the baby is more efficient. If you are following a feeding with a pump it just makes sure you were empty and you can see how much was left, but if you're replacing a feeding it's not a great measure. Also one way to tell if baby is getting anything while they are nursing is to listen for swallows, but the only way to know for sure how much they were able to get from you is to go to an IBCLC and do a weighted feed.

Soap and hot water is more than adequate as long as you have clean water where you live.
Everything else isn’t necessary, just maybe givens people piece of mind.
Is this good for girls who are double DD?
I have the medela and I never get any milk in the stimulation mode. I probably wouldn’t ever get to 1.5 ounces with the willow.

Yes, I noticed this as well. I have a family history of thyroid disease, so I wasn’t sure if I’m just hyper sensitive at noticing those kinds of things, or if other people noticed as well.

Someone else asked the same thing and she responded and said she has a nodule in her thyroid that is benign. She gets it drained and is planning to have it removed completely 👍🏾
Do you think these work if you’re a bigger chested mama?
My sister in law used the Elvie (I don’t know which model) and it didn’t work for her. She was larger chested when her milk came in and they wouldn’t stay on or she just wouldn’t get hardly anything out. She has an amazing supply and hasn’t had any issues with other pumps.

I’ve had it drained a couple times (it’s benign) but the dumb thing keeps re-accumulating so I’m probably gonna end up having it removed here eventually.
