I love how Warhammer 40k is one of the few fandoms that the fans willingly, with gusto, put upon themselves this aire of Orthodoxy and reverence of the lore as if we were all supplicants learning from our superiors. I love it

Faithslayer I’m guessing it’s because a lot of the lore came out in the most recently released Horus Heresy “Black Book” from Forge World. I hadn’t heard it until now, either- I haven’t yet bought that book. I unfortunately can’t buy them too often due to their prohibitive cost, so I only have 2 of the 8 (I think?) books. And as far as I know, the Blood Angels are featured in that latest one. That’s just my guess, though- I’m not 100% sure that is the reason.

I agree- I remember back then as well- when the Horus Heresy was mentioned, but had no written lore other than Horus being the Emperor’s greatest general who rebelled- (I’m older than most fans, at 45 years old). I started reading White Dwarf back around 1987, as I loved the art, and would use it to copy in my drawings. But I never got into the game, and never painted minis until 2-3 years ago ( ! ). And I only paint the models and read the books- I still have never gotten into the game, so unfortunately have no idea beyond what I hear from others about how GW has changed. But what you’ve said seems to be the general consensus-
I would love to see interactions between Angron and the Angel and see Angron actually like someone even a little
The Blood Angels are by far the most proudest and most tragic of the Legions. Lead by the most beloved primarch second only to Horus and deeply flawed by two set of curses. One by a hunger for.blood from the beginning and rival by the World Eaters. And the other is a rage so hot it leaves them mad, remembering the finale and painful moments of theirs beloved father. Yet despite all the challenges and obstacles they continue to be a prime example of what a Space Marines.
This video has sparked my interest in the Blood Angels more than anything else I've seen or heard about them. Bravo!
@@OculusImperia I did not know they originally were the very model of how space marines were described in 1st edition - recruited from the violent dregs of humanity and turned from monsters into controllable monsters.

God I love my legion. And malevolence particularly emphasizes that at their zenith they were among if not thee preeminent legion of the late crusade, feels good
The new lore presented in malevolence of an altogether more savage and abhorrent legion before sanguinius reminds me of a quote from the elder scrolls character paarthunax: “What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature though great effort?”
Also, "Discipline in the lesser aid in denial of the greater," speaking of why he avoided interacting with mortals to hold at bay his instinct for domination. Describes the Blood Angels well.
Those who overcome their worst selves are not angels. They are angels' betters, For he who does not know evil cannot be truly virtuous in it's rejection. Only one who knows it's full taint and allure,yet resists it,can be considered worthy of the claim to sainthood.

I love the Blood Angels because of how profoundly tragic their story is. It’s not like the iron hands, who lost their Primarch as one might lose a common soldier. You can almost say that losing Ferrus wasn’t even that great of a blow to the legion and later chapter. The Blood Angels are _still grieving_ the loss of Sanguinius. It hit them so hard that even forty thousand years later, they still carry on as if it happened just yesterday. One line from the book Fear to Tread sticks with me considerably, and I feel that it perfectly encapsulates just how much he meant to his legion: Sanguinius is speaking to one of his sons, I can’t recall his name, and he says that he saw him in a vision of the future.
“You were…proud” he says.
The marine doesn’t know it yet, but he’s going to be one of the pallbearers who carries sanguinius into his final resting place. He’s not proud yo just be a blood Angel, a son of Sanguinius, he’s proud to have been one of the treasured few marines to have been given the honor of speaking with the primarch before his death. One of the few who received the honor of being able to call the Angel a friend.
The iron hands went super psycho after he died, and it drove them further into where they are now. Before, they used to just cut off arms as a tribute
The Blood Angel's are my favorite Legion and Chapter. They represent the evil that lies with us all. But through strength of will and righteous will we can overcome our flaws to better Humanity. If Sanguinius was Warmaster the Heresy would have been small and the Emperor would have lived not upon the Golden Throne. Even now Dante is doing the Emperor and Sanguinius's work. Great video
Why is The Angel the best primarch?
Angron took a legion of noble warriors and turned it into a legion of savages.
Russ took a legion of savages and turned them into noble warriors.
But Sangunius? Sanguinus had a legion of degenerates, and transformed them into paragons of justice. True angels of the Emperor's will.
10 000 years later, there are many defenders of humanity, but the noblest of them all are: THE BLOOD ANGELS! And to think the 40k chapter once used to be the "revenant legion".
You know why the blood Angels are the one true legion it’s because they are monsters and they know it and they know it could be all they are but they are willing to be more. It’s easy to be who you are but is a blood angel to be to be what you were meant to be. It is easy to go into that rage but it is a blood Angel who fights his rage so that he might fight his enemies
what i find "utterly fascinating" and ironic about the horus heresy is that the legions/chapters like the Space wolves dark angels iron hands and of course the blood angels are all the legions you would have expected to be the ones to turn traitor compared to the likes of the iron warriors luna wolves thousand sons etc because of how flawed they are genetically most of the traitor astartes legions never had that much in the way of geneseed flaws which affected the legions performance and attitudes not to mention that the tratior legeions embodied the ideology of the imperial truth more so than the loyalist legions in alot of aspects.
Michael Kean One of the other Warhammer Lore channels I think it might’ve been arc Warhammer did a video where he flipped every Legion in the heresy, all the traitors are loyalists and vice versa. I would’ve thought that the new traitor war master would’ve been Guilliman, but he gave it to sanguinius. I recall he said that guilliman fell to Slanesh becoming the alt fulgrim but that never made any sense to me. I would’ve made him the war master, and sanguineous the alt magnus, falling to tzeench

@@Aschwartz14 Sanguinius is a Khorne champion. I mean he was like a centimeter (get out with your inches, I use real measurement systems) out of becoming one, in the story version where he ends up loyalist!
Sure, the wolves seem more brutal and savages, but man do the blood angels have already the iconography. Both would probably be Khorne, tbf.
I would have seen Salamanders as Slaanesh, due to their fascination with fire, a known sociopathic and sadistic trait, and the perversion of their love of humanity.
Imperial Fists could have been Nurgle, with their obsession with defending and maintaining a position at all costs. Or Dark Angels, due to their death world's beasts and big forests.
Ultramarines could have been the Word Bearers, except instead of religion, he would have propagandized authoritarianism with geometry and order gone too far. Kinda like a mix of Emperor's Children (pre-HH) and Ultramarines. It feet the dogmatic feeling of WB.
I would have seen the White Scars as an interesting Tzeentch alt, given their huge devotion to shamans and their powers. Plus they like planning and strategy and I like the twist over the more static Thousand Sons.
But in the end, Sanguinius as Warmaster is like his choice as a Khorne champion, it's to give links with the real story. Sanguinius was, as he was with Khorne champion position, a hair from being the Warmaster. Horus himself thought he should have been, and he was probably intended to become the Imperium Face and "Emperor" if Big E has never plans for his children post-crusade. Imperium Secondus shows it very well.
And all of this makes less sense than the real story because it's as the traitor legions were created as such before their history was written...

Revenant Legion. Neptune in particular always sticks in my mind. They implanted Sanguinius's gene seed in sub human creatures and created angels. Like roses that bloom in winter.

Imagine a Blood Angel Legionnaire, just waiting in the long storm to see what new enemy to be thrown at; His hair caked and matted in blood and gore, his eyes just shifting everywhere, and his expression that of a dog that wants to get on with it and fight... And then, a giant handsome man approaches; He knows they share a bond, but... how? The Giant is a statue, a representation of the Divine, and the giant kneels.
What does this Blood Angel do next?.
I think The Emperor would have picked Sanguinius to be his successor, he was truly one of the most loved and brave, selfless, near Vulkan level compassionate , graceful, and angelic of the primarchs almost a mirror image of his father, Horus was likely a pragmatic choice, but Sanguinius should have been the right choice for The Emperor's successor, I believe HE should have been the Emperor's favored son, not Horus....and The Lamenters, the most heroic and selfless and true noblebright chapter in the entire canon was descended from Sanguinius.
The Legions of Robby G String supporters would be inclined to disagree with you. 😂
He was his successor though, they tried to make him Emperor but Sanguinius refused to take his father's title so he became Emperor Regent.
The only reason he didn’t was that he knew the Warmaster would eventually betray him, whoever held the title.

I really do enjoy your narration. Your verbosity lends itself perfectly to the 40k universe. While you talk I can often Imagine some holo globe lit Gothic pulpit, scribe ensconced, detailing various histories to some member of the inquisition or a servant of some noble household seeking knowledge of the imperium and beyond for his master. When I took an interest in 40k,
the Blood Angels caught my eye.
When I took an interest in the Blood Angels, this Video caught my eye.
When I took an interest in this Video; this Channel, it's Narrator,
this lore, and this masterful storytelling - maintained my full attention.
I walked into this Video, curious about the Blood Angels, wanting to know as much as possible -
At the video's end -
I left - not only with a definite Like & Subscribed; but with the Blood Angels as a newly found favorite Chapter of the Space Marines, and perhaps even a Blood Angels main.
And that's saying alot.
As much as I love the other Chapters & Factions; such as the Salamanders, the Grey Knights, the Ultramarines, the Inquisition and Imperial Guard, etc -
I now find the Blood Angels to easiest faction to identify with.
The way they go from seemingly irredeemable monsters to paragons of virtue in the truest sense, the way they exchange their formerly monstrous nature with a refined sense of culture - and their taste for fine arts... and yet - they strike down evils with the fury of Angels;
it reminds me of Alucard and Castlevania, as well as Darksiders and Bayonetta.
As for this video - you've done far more than convey conventional facts; you've given a story. And that's a difference maker.

I sort of knew about the Blood Angels being hated and distrusted prior to the finding of Sannguinnius, but I never realized just how much he did to change his legion or how well liked he was. But, that is why I love your videos; you are exceptionally through.

I would say that the Blood Angels are my favorite legion/chapter in that they prove no matter how low or terrible humanity can be, we can be better, we just have to choose to be so. Despite all the darkness that is inside them, they prove to be amongst the most noble of the Space Marines. Though a guiding hand often helps.

I know the universe of 40K is a satire, but you can take so much more from the setting. It talks about the very foundation of what it means to be human or what it means to be humane.
Also as a non native english speaker I strive to one day have an arsenal of words as large as yours.

I learned a few things from this interesting video. I thought the Blood Angels were like vampires but they are more like ghouls and the flesh they consume allows then to gain the knowledge of the previous warrior. This explains their great skill in battle.

I've been collecting and painting Blood Angels since before 2nd Edition. I'm working on both Primaris and Heresy-era Blood Angels now. Thank you for covering my favorite Legion. If the Legiones Astartes were a high school, Sanguinius is the Diva, and the Blood Angels are her Mean Girl posse.

Excellent work. I've never particularly cared for the Blood Angels, never shook their bland comparison to the Dark Angels in the old Angels of Death codex from 2nd edition.
However, recent fluff has made them far more interesting and this latest batch is magnificent.

Thank you for doing my boys such profound justice with your narration. The Blood Angels have always been and will always be my favorite space marines, and my favorite faction in all of 40k. I don't play tabletop these days, but as of 7th edition I had almost 6,000 points of BA. The only army I ever fielded or collected.
