Oscar Vermeulen has developed an incredible electronics kit that lets you build your own replica of a PDP-8 computer. From the user's perspective, the assembled kit looks and behaves just like the original. But Oscar leveraged the power and economy of single board computers by using the Rapsberry Pi to emulate the original PDP-8 functions. The project, which he calls the PiDP-8, helped him gain a volume of knowledge about making good choices when developing a kit. Learn from him in this talk which he presented at the 2015 Hackaday SuperConference.

Loved the video. My favorite quote: "...there is no product obscure enough that people are not interested in it..."
    Tell me about it...

I’ve got one from Oscar’s first run. It’s been running a Raspberry Pi 2 on my network with a wireless USB adapter for the last 5 years. It’s a pretty good way to experience a PDP8 without the cost and upkeep of a real one.

Nice talk! Too bad we don't get to see even half the slides...

I had the imprssion all slides were shown, at leas briefly. I developped the habit of pausing anyway every time a new slide comes up in TH-cam presentations.

One of the best of the series. I want to see the PDP-11 with 32 users on 300 baud terminals :-)
