  • Hey everyone! In this video, I thought I’d take you along as I make my very own DIY Fake Cake!! I got my materials from the Dollar Tree, tried out this diy for the first time and turns out, it was a huge success and I looooved the outcome. I have never made one of these fake cakes before, but since I had a wedding expo to attend to, I wanted to diy a little somethin’-somethin’ to display the beautiful cake topper that I created! All of the items I used in this diy are from Dollar Tree and this is truly one of my favorite mini Dollar Tree hauls / Dollar Tree diy crafts ever. In the end, this cake was such a hit and was even mistaken as an actual wedding cake. If you stumbled across this video and you’re looking for a budget-friendly wedding cake idea, I say GO FOR IT!

    When the spackel is dry can i still put a cake topper easily using some toothpicks? I sell caketoppers so this would be helpful

    my cake ended up looking dried up how do i make it so it can shine and look more realistic

    • @confetetievents
      @confetetievents  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi!! :) I haven't tried this yet, but spraying on a spray paint would add a nice gloss to it. Try using a clear glaze spray paint or white spray paint, or whatever color to match your cake. This will help it look not so matte.

    • @CajunPride777
      @CajunPride777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To make it smooth just sand it as you would do when used on walls. Spackling is not naturally made to be shiny but you could try putting a clear coat over it

      What is lightweight spackling?

    • @confetetievents
      @confetetievents  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ghazal!! I added a few drops of pink acrylic to get the pink color. Lightweight spackling is meant to be used on drywalls lol. But they are also used for fake cake displays! You can find it at your local Dollar Tree/Home Depot/Lowe's or Amazon here: www.amazon.com/12140-Interior-Exterior-Spackle-2-Pint/dp/B0006MXS0Q/

    how durable is the spackling?

    • @confetetievents
      @confetetievents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty durable after it dries! It’s been over a year and it’s still in great shape in my craft room. It just has collected a bit of dust haha 😛

    What's the point of the brown paint underneath?

    • @confetetievents
      @confetetievents  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I initially wanted it to be a “naked cake” because I didn’t think I’d have enough spackling so the brown paint would peek through. Turns out, I had more than enough spackling haha. I guess I kept the brown painting portion in the video. 😂😅

    How did you remove the spackling from the styro.

    • @confetetievents
      @confetetievents  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not removed the spackling from the styrofoam til this day! It sits on my desk as a display lol. But when working on it, you can easily remove it with your finger/a spatula before it completely dries.

      What is Spackling?

  • @marikiemarie7622
    @marikiemarie7622 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The spackle was bad. When it's not touching the sides it bad...that's why it look grainy and grumbling. Don't buy spackle at doller tree. It's the good brand but it's way passed expired...they get the for 5 cents a jar.

    • @confetetievents
      @confetetievents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @CajunPride777
      @CajunPride777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed that too. If you open spackling and you see its separated from the side walls of the container that means its old and drying out.

    • @CajunPride777
      @CajunPride777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@confetetievents One tip when buying spackling is to shake the container before buying. If you hear it moving around, it's separated from the walls and old.
