I know you will probably never see this comment but I wanted to tell you that in July my daughter passed away from DIPG cancer. However a few months before she passed we had a wonderful evening sitting on the couch, eating pizza bagels, and watching one of your videos. It was the one where you told us what a typical day was like for you. She had such a good night and was so happy. She could barely speak at that time, but was able to tell me that she loved me, followed by a wink and a hug. It was a wonderful evening and your video accompanied it. So thank you for being a part of our wonderful evening. She rests with Jesus now, and that memory rests with me. I smile everytime I remember that evening.

"I never thought there were a million people that were interested in vintage computers or vintage gaming"
Honestly, I'm not terribly interested in vintage computers but I'm a huge fan of your channel b/c I enjoy watching your presentation. You're an incredibly genuine dude. You don't put on airs, or try and show off how smart you are. You don't try and play a character or put on an act. Everything about you, from what you say to your mannerisms says to me that you'd act the exact same way if the cameras were off. People can tell authenticity and I think many of your fans are just responding to that. Congratulation on 1-million subs, you earned it.

It is about time someone said something
like this. Absolutely. Mr. Murray is the real
deal and he sticks to his guns, a real straight
shooter. He could probably read the dictionary
and still gain a following, just by way of his
      wholesome attitude and sincerity.
Please, nobody tell him this or he will be
getting a swelled head, and we can't have

Completely agree, what brought me to this channel was how 8 bit graphics on the nes worked and I've stayed ever since because of his presentation. I never cared, owned, or used a Commodore 64 yet I've watched some of those videos and enjoyed them very much, not because of the content but more of the presentation.

Yep, I come back because I prefer blunt and honest people. I really would like to see David and Sam from Look Mum No Computer collaborate a lot more; the clashing personality would probably entertain me endlessly. Sam is another one of those people that just feels like he'd be no different off camera than on; full wild full time. Clint and MetalJesusRocks feel 110% genuine as well. 17:04 - Coming from the future: Despite this, David did eventually take exactly one sponsorship offer - in his video showing the construction of a solar pergola for his studio building, he took a sponsorship offer from Ecoflow, as it happened to fit in with the video & he would've just bought them anyway if he didn't get the offer

David, I'll repeat this story on this video since it is wholly appropriate here. When we drove out to the Dallas Auto Show together a couple years ago or so, you were just under 400,000 subscribers. I said it'd continue to grow, and you said, "Nahhh, it's starting to slow down and I don't think too many more people will be interested in this kind of stuff," but I still believed in you and knew that your no-bullshit quality of video would propel you! I KNEW YOU'D GET THERE, MAN, so congratulations. I've been watching your growth for several years, and it was a great pleasure to get a tour of your house and go to the auto show with you. I've had the soundtrack CD you signed for me displayed on my bookshelf in the living room since the day you signed it!

Whenever I'm performing computer repairs, I ask myself: "would the 8-Bit Guy be satisfied with this repair?". If the answer is no, then I continue repairs, make cable management adjustments, or simply re-perform the entire process until I'm confident that you would consider the job satisfactory.

It's kinda true for all long running channels that don't really change that much to fit the trend since the beginning. Basically, it kinda makes the gold button, or even the diamond button mean nothing, since those more or less has nothing to do with whether a channel is actually good or not. (Not that high sub count channels are bad, but they usually aren't on par quality wise with less popular but more unique channels, with very few exceptions and some kinda "turns bad" after becoming popular.)

When I worked at Radio Shack in the early 90's, we found one of those early era Tandy modems in the stock room still new in box. Had fallen behind a rack and forgotten for over a decade. It had 300 or 1200 baud switch on it and nothing more.
We put it out on the sales floor in the computer section, joking that it would be worth more if we hid it for another 10 years.... few days later a customer about had a joyous meltdown in tears over it. He was a desperate technician for the cable company in our region sent out on a quest to find a 300 baud only auto dial modem in 1993. Had to be 300 baud for their teletext system, or be forced to retrofit their entire system. About crapped when a NIB exactly what he needed was found. This was when ebay and online sources of such items did not exist.

Congrats David. You deserve it, unlike that LGR guy 🤣! Keep it up, it’s wonderful people like yourself and Clint, Techmoan, and others keeping the retro scene going stronger than ever!

I'd say you're successful because of the topics themselves. It's fun watching vintage hardware get restored. It's fun seeing how much we have progressed technologically. The videos are well paced and well scripted. You use a lot of descriptive words and speak clearly, making TH-cam's auto-captioning function work really well and making your content more accessible to the deaf and blind.
Not to mention the sheer passion you show. We can tell you enjoy this a lot, and it's enjoyable to watch someone who enjoys the content they create.
You earned every subscriber, fair and square.

You have one of my favorite channels - Love to see videos with older technology getting revisited. Retro stuff is exciting and your way of delivering knowledge of lost times is awesome.

Das ist ziemlich cool, dass du Deutsch sprichst. Ich bin ein großer Fan dieser Show.
Also I happy that this channel doesn't do stupid ads in the middle of a show.

Interesting, never knew there was a computer museum in RI. 20 years later, I still miss the one in Boston!
