    i firmly believe you should never sell a car/bike/etc that you have clearly looked after. The bike looks to be maintained to a high standard and is a credit to you. im sure you have many years of happy riding ahead of you.best of luck and thanks for the video it was really informative.

    I did end up selling the bike but not before hanging on to it till it had done 171,000km/s - boxer engine still going strong... sold it to a friend who intends doing many more miles/km's on the road with his wife - he's retired so has more time to enjoy it.

    I still have this bike by the way - now it's done 130,000+ and still traveling fine - Still ride it to work daily 70km round trip and it's very reliable.

    Now done 150,000 Km's still going strong...still commuting 70km a day.... gotta love the boxer motors... the fact that when you start the bike the oil is already there to lubricate so you don't get the wear on the motor you do on other motors where the bike has to warm and pump the oil up to lubricate the pistons - engines good as new... just did the normal service myself...oil change - air filter - spark plugs...

    @Geoffmetal Haha Geoff - so true - well I haven't given up - in fact I never ended up putting it on Sale - I have kept it and enjoy commuting everyday on it - I've had had the hydraulic Clutch plates replaced since my video and it's just like new again - and is in showroom condition. Love the bike - love the ride - you're right - I have it in my blood now - been riding since 1982 :-) Thanks for your comments Geoff - happy riding

    Great video mate. Thanks for sharing it. My questions is... did it consume oil and how much? I heard that this one is a bit more oil thirsty in comparison with the 1100 previous model. Thanks for your answer.

  • @PABERCRO
    @PABERCRO  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah - the horns certainly are very loud - not sure what the 2002 model is like but the placement of the horn I've always had trouble with - you kinda have to press your thumb upwards and downwards as well as pull your clutch in at the same time as avoiding the vehicle that your'e tooting at - can be tricky. Mirrors haven't bothered me - took a little while to get used to looking under my hands but it's ok now - thanks for your feedback :-)

    Lovely Machine. I have a '05 (really a 04 but not registered till 05) The last of the crop so has a few extras, Solid black paintwork, incl. the boxes, a bit of chrome on brake fluid caps and cylinder heads. I love this bike to bits, whether through town or out on open road. It is steady as a rock and just purrs along. I was asked recently - If ou had the money to go out and buy your dream bike, what would ou go for? Simple reply - I have it already. Happy biking!

    @JoMolovinit Sounds sweet... it's a great Bike... had the odd issue here and there but nothing to unusual for a bike that's done 80000klms - brakes are awesome...saved me a couple of times.... yours sounds like a special edition... love to see a photo if you have one.... it's good when you find a great vehicle that you enjoy and is reliable... like our Subaru... been an awesome car.... and the BMW is a great commuter - thanks for your input

    @PABERCRO Is a police model though previous owner is civilian. Has been well maintained. Actually was going to pick it up but owner wasn't happy with old battery so in installing a new one. He is a motorcycles enthusiast owns a 2000 BMW 1200RS, used to have a RVT RC51 1000r Nicky Hayden bike, also has numerous dirt bikes. Yes, it does not have the radio though closer ratio final 6th gear, higher output alternator and recent 12k service. From what I've read the 1150rt is a very good bike

  • @viggoM35
    @viggoM35 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @PABERCRO I got the bike now. Had to put in another starter, though previous owner paid for a used one. Also installed a radio for it. Like you said all the wiring was gone, but it was simple to re-wire (if you know what you are doing).
    Cool bike, though I have an offer to trade for a K1200RS, which is tempting because of the 4 cylinder "brick" engine and more horsepower.

    Hi ViggoM35 - Well I can't claim to be any kind of an expert other than owning this Bike but my previous Bike a XJ900 Yamaha was a ex-police Bike and served me very well - however here are some pros and cons. Con1. Ex-Police bike could have a lot of wear on the Dry Clutch - check that there is no slippage in the clutch and ask if / when it was replaced. Pro1. Police Bike are well maintained for their safety. Con2. There is only one seat so no pillions (some may see this as a positive)

  • @GSRider
    @GSRider 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    really cool video, thanks !

  • @PABERCRO
    @PABERCRO  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi ViggoM35 - (part2) Pro2. Electrics are generally boosted for all the on-board gear Police use (this maybe removed though when they are sold) Con2 They remove the radio gear that comes with the bike so this will be probably missing (unless they put it back) Pro2 You will be replacing a lot older technology in your current Bike with the newer one - better safety standards. Con3 You may have to pay more for a service than you currently do - hope this helps you a little :-)

    I bouggt an '02 model silver one in Dec last year. Really loving it now.
    Way better than my K100LT. At least it feels and rides much more modern.
    Punchy twin engine which I prefer over a 4.
    Takes a little to get used to the power brakes, they feel bitey but its only a matter of time before you get a feel for them. Linked system seems OK too.
    Only thing with the power brakes Ive read is if they ever fail you will be in for big bucks to replace. However I have seen vid that shows how to remove it and have normal brakes, course you will lose your ABS though. I would only do this if mine ever failed though.
    Anyway, cause of the power brakes they say you need to flush/do maintenance on them every year regardless of kms done. Around AUD $350 my local BMW dealer tells me.
    Have you still got yours mate? Whats your opinion on the brakes?

    • @PABERCRO
      @PABERCRO  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      fonzitheman Hi fonzitheman - The full brake flush when I did mine was around $330 here in Australia - but I've only done it outside of warrantee once - but brakes are pretty rock solid - and the brake pads on this bike are so easy to replace yourself (see this video - foreign language to me - but I did this myself - was so easy) th-cam.com/video/BZnCAU_NVGA/w-d-xo.html
      By the way I have now done 145000+ Kms on my bike now and still have it - happy riding - enjoy your machine :-)

    • @fonzitheman
      @fonzitheman 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PABERCRO
      Im actually in AUS to mate. So $350 is around same price that you got charged so seems about right then I guess.
      They do say the power brakes need to be done every year though.

      Hey again lol
      I actually still have mine, so had for 9 years now but done very little kms myself. Only 15,000kms. So in 9 years that aint much.
      For the brake flush I actually just go to a local shop instead of BMW, cost around $150.
      So mines still going fine.
      Not quite 70,000kms on it total.
      I am finally looking to upgrade though, still not for a few years yet prob though.
      Dunno if Il go new or used
      New is always great but damn so expensive.
      If I go used I was looking at either the 1200RT, 2017/ 2018 model.
      Or if 1250 then 2020 model.
      The new ones with the TFT display looks a bit of eyesore to me, Im not against TFT but it just looks like a tablet stuck to the front, i wish future models have it intergrated into the dash better, finished off better ya know
      And an option for simulated analog dials would be nice.
      Thats what I like about the slightly older ones, still have the dials but a sep digi display for bike info/settings.
      Probs just nit picking but if you splash for a new one you'd wanna have it the way you want it.
      Any thoughts? You got any RT at all still?
      Oh yeah, one last thing, for almost 9 years Ive been riding with the seat height in the middle position though I have tried low and high when parked, I just left on middle.
      But a little while back I actually took the time to ride on low and high.
      On low I pulled over after about 500m,terrible.
      On high it actually felt better yeah, feels a little more on top of the bike at first but that passes quick.
      Still reach the ground easy (Im just a tad over 6ft) and ofcourse peg to seat height is a little higher as well then so that defo helps.
      Now when I try the middle setting while it still feels Ok you defo feel like you are 'in' the bike more and a little more cramped.
      So anyway, better late than never changing it to high huh lol

    nice informative video... can I ask how the seat adjusts? i.e. how you you get it to go up and down?

    • @PABERCRO
      @PABERCRO  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jamquint - Seat gets adjusted by removing the back seat. Small back seat is removed by a key lock under top box - and once the seat is removed there are three different heights you can adjust the seat to so you just make sure the seat is sitting on the right height notch that you want - Note the seat adjustment is a totally manual process and the bike seems to lend itself towards slightly taller riders even on the lowest seat setting.
