  • I have two Coleman, Steel Belted Cooler that are the best. Over the years, they have taken a beating, especially the bottom corners. Well, here is a fix to extend the life of your coolers.

I have the same smaller cooler and the plastic is starting to crack. Thanks you for the video, now I have the info I need to fix the crack before it gets bigger.

I'm in the same boat as you with my Coleman cooler which i think is the same as your larger one only it was made in 1983. All 4 bottom corners are cracked but only one is missing some plastic. After an hour of trying, i gave up removing the inner liner since it was getting real close to cracking. I think i'll just grind out the rust from the corners then bondo them to fill any voids and to make the surfaces even. After that i'm thinking about spraying the white plastic areas with some sort of truck bedliner material to protect it and give it a lot more durability.

I wouldn't say that's the prettiest repair job but seem adequate. Thanks for the video.
Honestly, it blows my mind that Coleman, nor anyone else, makes a replacement bottom for these coolers. I have four of them and all have the same cracked bottoms.

Had I taken the time to make it pretty, someone else would want to take it. I wasn't even sure it would hold up after I got done. Still works great.

@@unbecomingtimmy8122 I have not really learned anything new....other than finding that any attempt to use heat and/or knives, thin pry bars etc seem to make the problem worse. lol. I ended up removing as much rusted metal as possible then super gluing the cracks, using super glue and baking soda as a small crack filler to stabilize some. I then back burnered the project with the intention to come back later with some body filler (bondo). I think I will also fill and sand down all the texture then probably use white truck bed paint and a texture roller to make it look stock again.

I don't use it as much in my old age, but no problems so far. Also, I don't loan it out cause people tend to not appreciate it as much as I do.
