Murray must have known ahead of time that this would be his final season because he KNOCKED it out the park with the entirety of Series 10. I've always considered this his Swan Song for Doctor Who. I'm glad that he's back but it's clear from the grandeur and melancholy of his music for S10 that he thought this would be his final goodbye.
Murray Gold confirmed he was the one to hold it back! Apparently it takes a few months to make the release and after S9 was leaked and fans shared it, he gave up on S10

For me and many... many others, this was and still is the end of Doctor Who, its all been destroyed now, not as good as it used to be, I sometimes tend to rewatch the whole of 12 all over again, it never gets boring. But the greatest Doctor I ever knew, will never be forgotten, you made a mighty fine Doctor, Petre Capaldi. It's a pity things have to end.

this music always wants to make me cry, it's just so immensely sad, and lonely, yet... peaceful. i love it
I will never forgive the BBC for not releasing the S10 soundtrack, but I'm glad that in it's absence, the fanbase fill the gaps like this masterpiece!
