I don't understand what's wrong with sleeping pills, they help you sleep and are not addictive unless your talking about prescription pills like xanax, even then, it's only bad if he is using it recreationaly (that means he is using it to feel good and not for sleep) which he clearly isn’t doing. Regular sleeping pills like melatonin have no side effects, can't be overdosed and you can't get addicted to them and while prescription pills can have these effects, as long as you take a normal dose and are using it for the intended purpose (sleep) it really won't cause any problems.
