Nissan has improved their CVT over the years. There are many many Rogues on the road with that CVT in it. Also. I hear a-lot of comments about the hp, which did fine on every trip we took. We have the 2021 Platinum and it is just fine. And yes, we drove the CRV, RAV4, CX5, and the list goes on. You also have to like the other aspects of the vehicle, correct. Pound for pound the Rogue won. It’s not tue fastest off the line but I would have bought a Vette for that. It merges just fine and keeps up with traffic. And yes, I’ve owned prior Nissans with the CVT and any issue I had was not with the transmission. My 2019 Accord Sport had a camera malfunction and shut the entire car down. Oh well, if man makes it, it will break. The Rogue is a nice driving vehicle. Take one for a drive before you just talk about the CVT. Yes, it has a history but people just like to talk crap as if it has not been improved.

Just got a 2021 Rogue SV as a company car. Very nice interior and amazing it doesn't have a auto shut off which is a huge plus. Seats are tall and supportive, if not a tad hard on the backend for those of us who aren't well padded back there. The arm rest height with the seat at high setting is excellent as is the utility of the interior which also has a swanky appearance with decent materials. The engine has some torque off the line and the Rogue is quicker than the Honda CRV EX-L (my personal ride). True the cargo area is shorter than the Honda CRV's however the cargo tie downs are very sturdy looking. I like the 12 volt outlet in the back area. The auto steer system is still being learned and seems to not be as precise as Honda's LKAS /ACC system. The Rogue tends to tailgate under the system and does not suddenly brake hard when someone slows ahead to pull off the highway - a very annoying and dangerous trait of the CRV. All in all, a good value and a comfortable vehicle.
@10:13 I've driven Rogue's for years and like you, I was shocked by the tinny hollow sound that my 2020 Rogue made when I closed the door. Apparently, Nissan added more aluminum to the Rogue over the past couple years and it's really noticeable.
Great video! But I do have to respectfully disagree at 7:16. Perhaps your pre-production model didn’t have the finalized audio setup, but the sound quality in my ‘21 Rogue SV seems pretty terrific. No, it’s not quite the same as what I’ve heard in Nissan’s Bose systems over the years,, but it’s pretty close to my ear. The bass packs a very nice punch to not have a dedicated subwoofer (I’ve yet to run into any distortion issues, even at louder levels), and the mids and highs are decent enough. Again, any premium system will almost always sound superior, but I plan to keep this vehicle a very long time and have no intentions of upgrading the stock speakers. They sound that good! To anyone debating between the SV or a higher trim just for the Bose package, I personally don’t think it’s worth the upgrade. Unless you are a bonafide audiophile, you’ll really enjoy the stock system! That said, I believe the base S trim only has a four speaker system, so it very likely is worth the couple extra thousand to go with the SV - not just for audio, but also for all the other features that come along with it!
I find the EPA's gas mileage interesting as I'm able to get between 37 and 39 mpg on my 2021 Rogue SV AWD and that's when driving on two lane roads followed by a bit of spirited highway stretches.
1:50 I've never seen foam used to cushion a hood, instead of bump stops and rubber cushions. I wonder if Rogue also employs the new sound deadening material, that's better than the often used recycled material. You mentioned it's quiet, so I guess that's the case.
We just traded our 2018 Rogue in last week because our lease was up. We also lease one for our son. We love the new look. It actually seems bigger and more luxurious. My only disappointment was I wanted the two tone , but they only come in the platinum. Overall we’re very happy with our Rogues .

Greetings from Russia! Good review, the author is well done! I have a previous version of the Nissan Rogue (X-trail on our market). I hope we will soon have an update in our country, too. Good luck to you!
I own the 2019 Rouge Sport SV. Honestly I think CVTs get some unjustified hate especially modern ones. I used to hate them, but for an everyday driver it's not bad at all. It's an excellent little commuter.
Um no they don't, this will need a new transmission at 50k miles guaranteed. That's how shitty Jatco CVTs are. Hell they were so bad that even CHRYSLER decided they were too unreliable!
I agree, I have a 2019 Nissan Altima and have found the transmission is much better than the 2012 Subaru Outback I used to own until 2014 when I couldn't stand it anymore. This car doesn't drone like my Outback had and feels more responsive.
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv well from my experience I haven't seen that. My mom had a Nissan Cube nearly 120k on the clock and not a single transmission related issue. @@AdamSmith-gs2dv Chrysler might have been better off keeping the CVT. I bought into the ZF 9speed, when trading off my Outback in late 2014 for a 2015 Chrysler 200 v6. What a complete piece of crap that car was. That 9 speed in my 200 designed and built by ZF shifted hard enough to give you whiplash. Hard enough to may me think I just dropped the transmission on some of it's shifting and yet all of the constant computer upgrades did nothing to fix. In the end for a car that only had 123k, it needed a new engine (worn cams spread metal flakes throughout engine), possible transmission, multiple electronic issues, being told that engine may have ruined the catalytic converters (it has 2), the suspension was already shot and the AC unit needed to be replaced. All told, it was going to cost nearly $18k to fix this dopey Chrysler. Yea, stick with Nissan.... I have family members with 2014 Nissan's that have well over 100k and have had no problems. Funny how I got rid of CVT vehicle because I couldn't stand it anymore, only to go to an inferior product only to go back to the CVT. IIRC, after your tour of Nissan factory. You said Nissan was heading in right direction. Now that it has been released. Just wondering if this was one of the vehicles you saw?
The PR25DD engine specs I'm privy to are this- direct injected, with an electrically operated valve timing control, cooled exhaust gas recirculation, integrated exhaust manifold, mirror bore cylinder coating and, a variable displacement oil pump. There's a resin intake port that creates an air layer between the intake and head inner wall that helps keep air temperature in check. Apparently a world's first that helps to reduce knock.

The only Nissan product I've ever owned was a much loved 240Z that took me around backroads when dinosaur crossing signs were common. In the years since I never found a Nissan vehicle that met my needs or wants. But I have to say that Nissan appears to have hit the sweet spot for the typical family of three or four (and perhaps a dog) with the new Rogue. They've reduced the length by a couple of inches bringing it closer to the average of compact crossovers while maintaining near class leading generous passenger and cargo space. The suite of driver assistance and convenience features are impressive, especially in midlevel volume trims. The single engine choice of a NA 4 banger with 186 ft lbs of torque and 186 HP won't thrill those whose priorities include stoplight drag racing in a compact crossover but such folks are far more numerous among internet fan boys than consumers. Current Nissan Rogue sales have slipped 39% in 2020 and dropped it from third to fourth place among compact SUVs. But the new model should move it back to third place ahead of the Chevy Equinox and again nipping at the heels of the CRV as it did in 2019. The familiar gripes about the Rogue's CVT won't go away. But such complaints largely ignore that CVTs (including Nissan's) have improved greatly since I test drove a Murano back in 2012 and found it highly objectionable. I'd guess that 90% of consumers looking at the Rogue won't notice a difference between its CVT and a traditional geared transmission. Further, nearly 100% of drivers will find no difference in over 90% of the miles they drive. CVTs are less expensive to manufacture. Their behavior can be designed and modified via software. And while the advantage CVTs enjoy in fuel efficiency is relatively minor and doesn't pay off for years compared to a traditional gearbox with 8 to 10 speeds, the advantage does exist in one important way when it's displayed on the window sticker in the dealer showroom. Consumers notice it and that matters in terms of sales.
That's my problem with enthusiasts! "Oh the droning sound is too loud!" C'mon not every Rogue owner is gonna floor it from every stop light. General commuting and regular maintenance will keep you going for years.
Someone other than my father and I say “scoosh” ( probably misspelled that lol) And wow they put LED brake lights!!! I thought they’d cheap out like the Altima

Nissan need to return the moveable rear seats from the previous model. Access to the lower floor storage area is near impossible if the boot is heavily loaded in this updated model. Nissan should not have removed the central 12v socket in this new model either.
What happened if Toyota will offer 243-hp hybrid (from Highlander) in Limited/Platinum RAV4 with 36-mpg? How attractive Rogue will be in the highest trims? Sorry, I'm just speculating...
We are told the car has an improved CVT design. There have been so many problems with past ones I would be hesitant to buy this one unproven. I’ll bet Nissan will sell a ton of them since many don’t know the difference between a conventional and a CVT.
@@stephenhendricks103 Not necessarily. The Armada, Frontier, and Titan all have an automatic transmission, with the next-gen Pathfinder rumored to be getting one as well.
CVTs aren't good for heavy-duty towing and hauling, that's why. Frankly I'm baffled that Subaru has one in their Ascent... as cvt has no business being in such a heavy vehicle.
@@dave3682 dude I'm being sarcastic because nissan would be so good if they use a proper transmission in their midsize cars and crossovers and up. Forget the ascent nissan even has one in the pathfinder.

I always wondered if Tom was the reason for the TP craze. :p
I'm a trend setter
Transmission by Jatco?
No longer Jatco, its now Xtronic
SV has gps?
My wife buy a Subaru Forester she said is ok ... she didnt notice the CVT...
And many people don't. Enthusiasts do though.
That's my problem with enthusiasts! "Oh the droning sound is too loud!" C'mon not every Rogue owner is gonna floor it from every stop light. General commuting and regular maintenance will keep you going for years.
Someone other than my father and I say “scoosh” ( probably misspelled that lol)
And wow they put LED brake lights!!! I thought they’d cheap out like the Altima
I've gone with the k myself: skoosh
@@marcob1729 interesting!!
alternatively "scootch" (also pronounced differently)
Skosh. I always figured it was from the Japanese word sukoshi (pronounced "skoh shee") since my wife is Japanese American. Just looked it up out of curiosity. I was right.
@@DrivenCarReviews Interesting! I always thought it was French, as in "scoche". I like that spelling better, anyway.
Does it have a digital speedo on the lower trims?
No speedos please. No banana hammock.
No
@@DrivenCarReviews oh that’s not good :( I thought you might be able to select it and thought I saw it on another site.
@@msmithy77 Sorry, misunderstood you. If I understand correctly, there's a center digital display that probably has a digital readout. Thought you meant a full digital display. Can't tell you for sure, check it on your test drive.
@@DrivenCarReviews I’m in aus and can’t wait for it. Went to forester from t32 and regret it. So will trade in as soon as it arrives. Hopefully it drives straight on centre like my last t32. Forester does not.
Tom is the automotive equivalent of "The REAL DEAL"...
Looks a lot better.
I don’t like how high the hood is and how short the windshield is. It really hurts visibility
Nissan need to return the moveable rear seats from the previous model. Access to the lower floor storage area is near impossible if the boot is heavily loaded in this updated model.
Nissan should not have removed the central 12v socket in this new model either.
Hello Tom
What happened if Toyota will offer 243-hp hybrid (from Highlander) in Limited/Platinum RAV4 with 36-mpg?
How attractive Rogue will be in the highest trims?
Sorry, I'm just speculating...
Doubtful on the RAV. The top trim Rogue interior is clearly best in class, but Hyundai has a new top trim in the Santa Fe that takes it on.
What a nice car!
My dream!
It’s for the children.
GREAT NISSAN.
Tom you ought to review its sibling - the Mitsubishi Outlander when possible! Great videos by the way :D
We are told the car has an improved CVT design. There have been so many problems with past ones I would be hesitant to buy this one unproven. I’ll bet Nissan will sell a ton of them since many don’t know the difference between a conventional and a CVT.
Why is CVTs around?
Ill never buy a car with a CVT
Then that means you won't be buying a Nissan.
Mainly to improve fuel economy.
@@stephenhendricks103 Not necessarily. The Armada, Frontier, and Titan all have an automatic transmission, with the next-gen Pathfinder rumored to be getting one as well.
Why are they not putting cvts on their trucks and big suv? Saves them money in the long run.
@@dave3682 i would rather buy a mazda even though it has only a 6speed auto in this day and age.
@@evoemperor3776 next gen pathfinder is getting the new 9-speed
@@dave3682 that is more like it! Cvt belongs to scooters anyways🤣
No hybrid=Fail. This car is 5 years too late. I own a 2017 Rogue SL Platinum.
I used to have a Nissan that had the Datsun and the Nissan logo on it!
I wonder how much Nissan really improved the reliability of those CVTs? I’ve heard of a lot of people with 150k + miles without any issues. They should back those transmissions with 100k mile warranty to boost confidence
I love supporting your channel Tom. As a long time viewer I respect your efforts when creating review content, but five ads in 13:54 minutes.good grief. Just saying.
I've done my best to locate them in a better time rather than the random position YT starts out with. If I could figure out a way to charge people $2 a year I'd do it that way. I'd make more money and everyone would be happy.
it looks like a Hyundai
and thats a HUGE compliment!
unfortunately its still a Nissan though 😔
It looks like the Nissan Juke which had the split level headlights back in 2007-2008.
Always a never to CVTs . Sorry not sorry .
Your brother looks same as you
i really wish those weird manufacturing faults for example that awkward looking gap from the side of the centre console, those rubbers with unfinished look closing the carpets on floors and all such things don't make it to the final consumer product. i just wish and hope it is simply a test product issue
Nissan did a great job on the new Rogue
Looks better than last generation.
Even the Subaru Outback has a choice of engines.
Please send some TP to the right coast, for the children.
Nice job with the interior. CVT sucks that killed any sale for me. Front nose is just ugly to many lines&shapes that dont blend together.
Just do not get the purpose of revving the shit out of the engine. You can leave that part out in future videos.
It's for the children. Just great.
I just tell people we're eating Mexican that night.
CVT TRANSMISSION good luck
Jo
Nice to see Nissan on the mend from garish styling gaffes. The grille is not ginormous, the logo isn't the size of a pizza and even the awful chrome "U" grille surround is toned down slightly. Interior looks great--it won't win any awards but it's smart-looking and easy on the brain.
This model goes back to its X-Trail roots. The outgoing model completely dumped the X-Trail heritage & went full soccer mum mode.
The least exciting SUV ever, next to a Dodge Journey. Just go with Honda, Toyota, Subaru, or Mazda.
