Oh yes, indeed the best promos. Alts art. Also can forget the Arceus V box with the promo and the Cosmic eclipse pack. Shrouded fable Greninja/Kingdra boxes. I hold a few of each but I don’t go big on those. I have more booster boxes and PC ETBs.
There's no reason why collection boxes should be so big. Like that Blooming Water box you showed has so much white space, it could easily be more ergonomic by halving the size while still properly displaying the packs. Less plastic, less cardboard, more inventory space would be so beneficial
@@ericng8807 that's such a stupid and pointless reason for a business to do that, it has more to do with being visually attractive to people walking through aisles
@@luckerooni1153 I'm kinda half joking and this is more of a tinfoil hat theory. Pokemon cards sell no matter what, people go into stores with the sole purpose of buying cards these days, I don't really think theyd need to depend on fancy boxes to sell product. You're right its definitely stupid and pointless to package what's essentially paper, in boxes thats 90% air. But they still do it anyways? I doubt it hurts the inventory space of retailers because pokemon cards sell fast. Have you ever seen kids or parents of little kids buy pokemon cards lately? It's usually grown adults. All the space efficient bundles fly off the shelves at my local target. If people only sold booster boxes do you think they'd get in the hands of kids? Hell no lol. These gigantic boxes are probably the only way they get into the hands of kids because they usually arent desirable for sealed folks
Usually in retail, boxes are all about the real-estate you have on shelf and kicking out competitors or outshining them. Subconsciously humans think bigger is more. But pokemon is only taking away from their own space. They don't have competitors so it doesn't really make sense to me either.
I just sold most of my collection boxes and I had to sell them as a lot on ebay. Way easier than selling individually. I added up the market price for each and made that my list price. This may be the way to go
I think the biggest issue with collection boxes is storage space and selling them. As for how they can be damaged easily during transit, the same goes for any type of Pokémon product. If you don’t pack anything carefully, you’re going to leave yourself vulnerable to disappointed customers. As for the right price, I was in the right place, right time last year when I came across a heap of 151 poster collection boxes on clearance for $7 each. Initially I scooped up a few cases worth to open but then I stopped and thought about it. Already I’m considerably up (4x) even if I sell at MSRP. But how about just waiting for it to appreciate with time in which for a box that’s themed on the original 151, featuring 3 beautiful promos of the first three starter pokemon on the front, the aesthetic appeal alone makes it a nice display piece and best of all, the boxes are small. To me this was an investment opportunity that I’m glad I recognized and took. I invest mostly in booster boxes for all the reasons you do too. But this was my one and only collection box play that I really have no regrets in pulling the trigger on.
You hit the nail on the head at the end… most collection boxes get broken down and the individual packs get sold… cheaper on shipping and easier for storage. That being said, I have a bunch of collection boxes and they are all still sealed 😅, but definitely not the best “pokemon investment” as you stated.
Personally I think the mini tins are better than the collection box. They are similar cost to pack ratio and they have the collectability factor of the tin and artwork as well
Ogerpon ex collection box, just released is sick for the a future investment. 6 boosters! 2 surging 2 stellar 2 twilight. great S & V sets and promo and card display stand. I think they will be expensive in a few years. I am with you though, not keen having too many. Bulky to store, fragile, no seals and a pain to post etc. I do hope to secure a few blooming waters haha. Great video bro!
it wont, the charizard is the first of its kind of many like that collection and it has no chance, this one u saying its even worse, look at reshiram and charizard, the packs itsels has more value than the box as a whole, also those sets will be forgotten in 2025, none will be looking fot that ogerpon collection in the future
@joaquincarrillo5354 I agree nobody will be looking for these boxes or many like it. But the pack selection will inflate the box. It's not a killer investment I guess, none of the boxes are. All about the packs inside in most cases. But it will go up better than most other boxes I feel. But booster boxes etbs and 6pk bundles seems the best way to go. Peace ✌️
Not sure if you’re a Pokemon Investor why you don’t either just have booster boxes for main sets and etbs for holiday sets. More liquid, less space. All these other products are cool with promos but I don’t think they hold up to the main two investment products.
Have you looked at what XY etc Single checklane blister packs go for? Imagine if you bought 36 of those instead of 1 booster box! Easy to ship/ promo card/ fast money 💰
I think people are rarely totally right or totally wrong. Like you, I've never been a big fan of collection boxes, but if I see an item (collection box, tin, poke ball, etc.) with good price per pack rates, I will buy it even if it's just to break it down.
tcg player is a big market but honestly if you go check card shows ebay etc the selling volume is much more than you think dont let it discourage you. if they couldnt sell they wouldnt be at that price
Do you think the first print run of the Glaceon & Leafeon Vstar special collection will do well in the future based on your 3 criteria? They contain 1 CR, 2 ES and 2 FS, are roughly the same size as the Arceus V figure collection, and were $30 on PC when they came out.
I own a store front and I just got scammed by a person who resealed every box, pack and sleaved booster they sold me. I will only be buying plastic wrapped products from the secondary market from now on. Too easy to reseal cardboard
Completely agree theyre only really worth it with sought after holiday sets. I stacked up on poster, zapdos and alakazam 151 boxes. Have done the same wirh prismatic poster sets too
Collection box’s are great investments if you buy the right ones. Whether it’s for out of print packs or just expensive packs. This is how I started my whole investing journey with pikachu v and celebrations box’s. Pikachu v had 2 evo skies and the celebration had 4 cele 1 fusion and 1 evo. Broke them down to sell individual packs. I do not ship the whole box as I select the packs depending on appreciation.
I have 40-50 of the non-Evolving Skies Heavy Hitter boxes and they DO take up a lot of space. I have a finished climate controlled basement so space isn't an issue but they still do take up space. At best I can fit 13 into a U-Haul Extra Large box. I predict I'm going to open them for the packs in the future to avoid the headache of trying to ship them but I'm keeping them sealed for now only because I can always open them for packs but I'd never be able to turn them back into sealed boxes.
These boxes are only designed to grab the eye in a store. Like many have said, it's not liquid enough, takes too much space. They're great to obtain packs at cheaper prices when they get discounted tho.
I dont really think the more modern collection boxes really give a fair representation. Boxes with evolving skies will become more sought after once ES stops showing up in randcm collection tins etc.
I thought the same when I first seen the box, the amount of packs for that price is a no brainer for me, the UPC is almost double the price and only contains a few more packs, granted it contains a few other bits and bobs but regardless the main pull is the packs. Anyway, if it's an all timer set like 151 you can't go wrong really, regardless of the product!
Gamestop exclusive Eevee Evolutions premium collection. Got it for $62cad, now selling for $150, a year and a half later. For those that missed E.S. era, it's a chance to pick up some great cards and packs.
I don’t buy collection boxes either. Obviously the sea and sky box and the blooming waters boxes are different because they have exclusively one set in them.
If they’ve got nice promo cards I’ll buy them, like the Eevee evolution VMAX premium boxes they had banger promo cards. Recently I purchased two traditional Chinese 5th Anniversary premium card set boxes, the promo cards inside are amazing and the pikachu promo card is S-tier. Another top video mate🤙
the King👑 I think if you can get this box for less than $7-8/pack is the last chance to grab 151 from launch so great idea for those who want more of this collection (myself included)
Only reason that these boxes will be attractive for other reason than pack selection are the promos. And the promos are usually underwhelming in these. Pokemon Company understands that these boxes look nice in stores for when mom/dad or grandmom/grandad, who are not into the hobby, are buying for their young collectors. Blooming Waters will be broken down for packs.
I don't think you're wrong. 1) difficult to display 2) difficult to keep clean (or expensive to protect) 3) difficult to distribute (and expensive) 4) typically difficult to get mint promos in them. You've pretty much summarised that yourself. I think the fairest way to truly assess the performance is versus a much easier product for the above noted issues.
You're right about collection boxes, the vast majority of them are not worth picking up they take up so much space, they are generally as big as a damn coffee table, you also have to factor that into shipping cost when you sell them, and they don't go up in value much at all and it takes a very long time. Obviously there are some standouts, like the eeveelution premium VMAX collections, but I have 6 of those I bought in 2021 for $80 each retail and they're still only worth about $240 each. So if I factor in all my fees, shipping and the initial money I spent on that box I'd only make about $100 profit on each box. Nah. Nah nah. On those huge damn boxes that have been cluttering up my house for nearly 4 years? Nah!
Really bro you never started in the video with the first packs you picked were all mixed sets. Crown zenith Sea and sky Anderson 151 careful to the moon
Seeing the prices of boxes with ES makes the $15 Walmart tins look like the buy of the year. All of mine V Strikers tins had 2 BS-3ES packs with the Hidden Potential tins 2 LO-1 FS- 2 ES. So many people waited to see what was in them and missed the deal so that's why the tins them selves aren't higher as there a gamble. Breaking them down really might be the only way. I stashed boxes of Sams club CZ boxes and Heavy hitters when they were down to $20 at my store.
You and every other poketuber are "WRONG" and always will be "WRONG" about ancillary products long term possibilities. High end investor/collectors dont understand the potental of these ancillary products into the long term say 10+ years! You all touch on it a bit but never really go indepth on serious LONG TERM natural attrition based investing. As a collector/investor in tangible items, im more interested in the esthetic look of particular ancillary products over a "basic pumpkin spice no art style" booster box, or a giant brown block case to look at! These booster boxes/cases will also go to a price where most blue/white collar collector/and or investor wont be comfy and look toward more attainable ancillary products! After given time those ancillary products will become rarer and rarer to find due to time/attrition as well! It has happened through every single block on the overwhelming majority of the sets to this day! You are normally only addressing the liquidity of short/mid term investing with high percent gains on booster boxes/cases with an added very low overhead on said boxes!
I agree on some aspects, the right collection box will be investable/collectable in the long term but the vast majority just aren't worth it. There are definitely some good ones!
Eeveelution vmax premium collection box was another good investment
Yeah for sure, it's a solid pick!
