  • Clips from the Sunday morning variety and interview series. These clips feature the original host, Bob McAllister. This show was similar to McAllister's previous show, Wonderama, which aired in the New York area and was syndicated to several major cities.
The show was later hosted by Michael Young, then Randy Hamilton.

I felt he got a raw deal when he was fired from Kids are People Too after only two months on the air. He had numerous run ins with the producers and ABC over the approach to the show. He want the show aimed at younger children like Wonderama but the producers aimed the show at the teen audience. Bob would have had a long run on ABC if there weren't creative differences. That's also what cost him Wonderama after hosing the show for 10 years.

This was not Michael Young's only TV show. In 1982, he hosted the short-lived "Soap World" show, which talked about soap operas and the people in them. I recall it because the theme music was ripped from the 1970s game show, "Break the Bank."

Randy Hamilton replaced Young around 1981. He came from the NBC soap, Texas.
Also, Willie Aames did a 2nd KAPT when the show moved to LA for one season. He also had his band (Willie Aames & Paradise) on the show.

I was a faithful watcher of the show, when it was shown on KTTV-11. McAllister made the show fun and related to the kids. When the show went to ABC, it lost lost a lot of the magic that made the show fun. Young and Hamilton couldn't relate to the kids. Bob was just a big kid himself, I had fun sing along with the show's songs.

KTRK in Houston had the hour long version on Tuesday mornings @ 6:00 am. But finally moved to Sundays @ 6:00 am in the summer of 1979.

"Kids are People Too"??? Well the show had like 90% adults as the guests, so I guess they didn't take too much stock in their title.

Good 'ol youtube, makes you remember things you forgot.
In this case for me: that band with the two guitarists who used a trampoline in their act! They doubled for the Gibbs brother in that horrible "Sergeant Pepper" movie they made.
On KOPT they did a full song which I remember went on for a while and was pretty hard rocking...but that's all I can remember. I guess kids and the world wasn't ready--and still ain't--for trampoline somersaulting guitar heroes. Hendrix never did that!

Its true actually. Up until the early 80s, kids were an unappreciated demographic. It's what gave popularity to shows like the Monkee's etc. Save for cartoons, we really didnt have too much. It wasnt until the mid 80s when the video game and movie blockbuster market erupted did they realize we had alot of disposable cash.
Now there's nothing else and I'm too old to appreciate it. Go figure.
BTW: I didnt like this show. It was too goofy, even for me. I preferred Bugs Bunny.

I wasn't a regular watcher of this show, but I rememebr watching episodes here and there. My interest in it was highest when Bob McAllister was host. I lost interest after he was fired. With all due respect to Michael Young (Bob's replacement) and Randy Hamilton (Young's replacement), they were not worthy successors to McAllister.

    • @kevins.butler3402

The problem with this series..was that it was aimed at teens..not little kids..Bob wasn't told..who the show's target audience was..and that created a problem for him..Mr.Young and Mr.Hamilton tried to host the show for teens..but..it still didn't work out and it finally went off the air in 1981.
