@@BuiltnotBoughtCampers all sorted in about 4 hours thanks to your video. The only unforeseen issue I had was that as my van seems to have had a hard life, the roof was quite dented and wasn't as straight as yours which made fitting the vent a bit trickery. Nothing a load of butyl tape and sikaflex couldn't fix though 🙂
Great video. Cut holes out in my Sprinter van camper conversion for side windows one on each side using a jigsaw with Bosch metal cutting blades, was quite fast at cutting and cut both window openings out no problems. The is the only thing the amount of metal filling it produces i unbelievable! Looking forward to your next video, keep them coming 👍
Thank you. I've learnt a great tip for metal filings. Find an old magnet and wrap it in paper towel. Collect the filings and then fold the towel off the magnet and throw that with contents away and the magnet can be used afain
Hello ffom Greece. Happy new year. Iam ready to put the mini heki roof vent. Iamworrying about the mastic tape. Proffeciondls herd in Greece say ghat i must have an adaptor and NOT mastic tape. They say that mastic tape is too dangerous for licking. But i wang to putt it on. Because the adaptor costs 138€. What's your opinion about the mastics safety? Thank you
Thanks for this video, we're in the process of converting a Vauxhall Vivaro, and we see that we will probably need to cut out an internal roof rib. So thank you for showing us how to do it. What we are worried about is if this will affect the structural integrity of the van? and whether this would affect van insurance? Any ideas?
Why don't you cut through the roof and ribs at the same time? Is it because of air tools, (I mean, a jigsaw could cut through everything) or there are some other reasons?
Nice job. I like "Mel's method" ("Mel's van world") He makes (in your case) a 39×39 inside wooden "picture frame" frame with 1" or similar batten (2×1?) Marks out on top, drills the corner holes, then fixes the frame inside (glue?) Using those holes. That's then a guide for the saw, just go through the holes and keep it flush to the frame Plus you can lay the tape as you did, but when you screw through there's extra pull, no flex in the roof and no screws to catch things on (including you!) Sealing the screw heads is a great idea. Great review of cutting tools. Each has its own strength in the right circs. Loving it.
thank you
Such a useful and well documented guide, thank you so much. I'm doing the same roof vent on my Primastar tomorrow!
Glad it has helped gow have you got on with the job?

Once the roof vent is fitted and ceiling installed it will be fine I've cut many out of many vans with no issues at all
@@BuiltnotBoughtCampers Thank you for getting back to me so promptly. Its appreciated :-)

What about structural integrity of the roof? Is it ok to cut out those ribs?
Yes it is as long as you don't take out too many
What fan is that?
It is a Fiamma Turbo Vent Premiuim.
Shame you never showed it working.
I know it does work now though and will be doing another one soon
Air tools ? 10 minutes with the cutting disc would have been me !
I like to try different methods and show tge results
