I used to work with Hagy at Good Humor. He was my friend and I miss him today. To have known him and been his friend was one of the high points of my life.
I met Wild Bill the first year that Camden Yards opened in 1993. He sat down in the seats down below and kept a low profile. I still remember fondly the days at Memorial Stadium. Wild Bill's legacy should be commemorated with a statue. He's a true Baltimore icon.
This is another great reason why TH-cam is amazing. Where else can you see great stuff like this. I was at an Orioles game 3 days ago and a younger fan was dressed up in a fake beard with the hat, the tube socks, and the jean shorts. He even did the cheer on the dugout. Very cool to see.
Bill passed away on my birthday. I am proud to have some sort of connection with this man, even though we never met. I love how you can hear his Baltimore accent with the long "O" sound. O-R-I-O-L-E-S!!
Wild Bill is among the most popular character cult fans who was true blue collar among fans that adored him and in turn the players liked him too. He is among the best Baltimore has ever had and even during his time he got to see the Orioles win three titles but it was in 79 Wild Bill very much became a phenomenal fanatic that brought him prominence not just in Baltimore but in other places that got him written in various sports presses. I never knew the guy but he will always be among the true die hard's that brought enthusiasm to a new level that would be carry over to the present time.
Absolutely awesome! We need another Wild Bill. Shout out to all the guys who dressed up as Wild Bill on Sat against Yanks- well done! We need this more frequently at Camden Yards! It was great hearing more O's cheering than Yanks fans!
Growing up in Baltimore during the 70s and 80s and seeing those guys in Section 34. Watching a great team. Note that during this time, there are more Baltimore fans than Boston fans at the park. Wish we could say the same today.... R.I.P. Wild Bill. A Baltimore icon that has gone into history. Camden Yards could never be like Memorial Stadium
Remember Wild Bill well, God rest his soul. Last time I was at Memorial Stadium was in 1990 while I was on leave from Iceland. and actually sat in Section 34. Wasn't the same without him. He will be missed, he's up there doing his spelling bee with Rex Barney saying Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
You know, this video brings up a good point. There should be a statue to honor "Wild Bill" Hagey. Maybe near the Memorial Stadium Memorial. Complete with a straw Hat, cut-off jeans and tube socks RIP Wild Bill
what a classic piece of video to see!! Thanks!! What a shit game we deal with today. Wild bill drove my mom to work daily in the late 70s early 80s. (Royal or At water?) Bill was best drunk off his ass! Hey Harlan Herc.
"There's a restroom right at the bottom of the ramp, and it's General Admission so anyone can go up and just sit there anytime they want" LOL - on his reason for picking Sect.34
My Dad shot pool with him at Ed's Inn right next to the cab co. Bill drove for...Once my Dad took me to game, met up with Bill and we sat right next to him....He had a full case of beer on the deck right below his seat...When the 7th inning came, he said to my Dad, "hold my Beer Jimmy" and he went and did his thing....
Most hilarious are the parts where afew young men stand in awe behind or next to Wild Bill. They are fascinated by Wild Bill and are desperately hoping to learn and emulate. Parenthetically, why is there no statue for Chuck among the many statues of Orioles at Oriole Park?
Wild Bill quit going when they banned fans from bringing in their own beer. He was too blue collar for Camden Yards, which deals with the Grey Poupon crowd.
Spoken a true Washionphonian who had to wait 34 years for his team because he couldn't attend the last two versions of the Senators. Most of the GNats fans just network on their cellphones and don't watch the game.
@@rockvilleraven This is so true, and it disgusts me that they're cheering at the parade today as if there are any authentic baseball fans like Wild Bill in DC.
In his book, sportswriter John Eisenberg claims Doug DeCinces' game-winning homer on 6/22/1979 was the beginning of Oriole Magic...but I disagree. The ballgame shown in this very video takes place a full month earlier, on 5/22....clearly, Wild Bill Hagy was well-known enough at this point (witness Elrod's comments) that a local tv program did this story about him....I think the very atmosphere of the game itself clearly shows Oriole Magic to be in full swing.
@saveusfrom1983 --sure seems like it. Bill is a legend. His era coincided with time when Orioles were the class of baseball. Balt was alwasy a football town, despite orioles success, until 1979, when Bill gained notoriety and O's won pennant. Refused to go to any more games when they banned bringing in your own beer.
@chipdrusano Yep ! Cretin Hop, gotta love the sound track.. although I couldn't pin point the other song besides Surfin Bird & Cretin Hop.. but it sounded cooll
jesusisnotallright s - I have no problem with prostitution whatsoever. Call me a Sheen or a whore 'monger'. If you got the money than why the hell not. Variety is the spice of life. Marriage is a weak dying custom, escorts are cheaper than divorce and they go home at the end of the night. We are animals and monogamy is the silly human notion you should only love one person. It rarely bodes well anywhere else in the animal kingdom. A husband/wife is going to cost more in the short term, mid term, Long term and any other term you can think of..
When will the Orioles be a good team again, you should ask? They've been to the playoffs twice since they last won in 1983, & they're in the same division as the Yankees & Red Sox, none since 1997. Maybe one of those days I would like to see the Orioles into playoff contention again.

I met Wild Bill while doing MC duties at Night Of 100 Elvis'in Baltimore. Great guy! An Orioles icon. He will be missed...
My last trip to Memorial Stadium in 1990, I sat in Section 34. Wild Bill had gone, but I felt his presence

Old Baltimore.....how I miss thee. What a great era.

Voices of Chuck Thompson and Bill O'Donnell calling the action on the field we see briefly in this truly great 8 minute clip? "Aint't the beer cold!"
Wild Bill was the real deal. Welcomed us to sec. 34 whenever we came up to visit from Sec. 13.
You know, this video brings up a good point. There should be a statue to honor "Wild Bill" Hagey. Maybe near the Memorial Stadium Memorial. Complete with a straw Hat, cut-off jeans and tube socks

Wild Bill Hagy was my cousin. His mom was my Aunt Lucille Hagy.
My Dad shot pool with him at Ed's Inn right next to the cab co.
