- At the tenth edition of the #IndianFilmFestivalofMelbourne (IFFM) in August 2019, the team of #SuperDeluxe - actor #VijaySethupathi, actress #Gayathrie and director #ThiagarajanKumararaja - revealed how they made this wildly original film. They sat down with #RajeevMasand to recount stories from the film's making.

iam a huge fan of fahadh too but Vijay simply outshone everyone in that role!!
annupamaa krishnaswami will agree to kindly disagree playing a transgender role is always mass appealing and will garner more public attention then playing Vembu (Fahadh) which I think had lot of layers specially the transition from what happens inside the house and continued to climax . If we look at Fahadh’s career all the roles that he has done are small and stick , we only wish Fahadh’s movies reach greater boundaries which is the limitation of a small industry like Malayalam which Vijay Sethupathi is lucky enough to get in Tamil considering he shared screen space with bigger stars and gained national attention .Fahadh and VJ are arguably the best actors in the country and am afraid Fahad’s reach would be limited just like how Mohanlal ( the best natural actor in the country ) got overshadowed by Kamal Hassan who is predominantly the best method actor in the country 🙂
Fahadh is a great actor but unfortunately this movie failed to showcase Fahadh's acting talents - all we saw was him fumbling to say Tamil dialogues and ending up overusing the F-word for impact.

Content are different where both bollywood and south has some cult movies and actors. There are talented method actors down in bollywood like Rajkummar Rao,Nawazuddin Siddique,Manoj Bajpayee,Irrfan Khan,Pankaj Tripathi,Naseeruddin Shah,Prashant Narayanan & Kay Kay Menon. Agree with the fact this movie is a gem.I hardly doubt movies like 'Gangs of wasseypur 1/2' can be remade in tamil or any movies come close to it.

police character was the most irritating character but he did an awesome job in irritating us. At the end everyone was happy with the punishment that Berlin got... Awesome Script, screenplay and superb movie. Ramya, Samantha and Fahadh Faasil also acted superbly.

Path / ground breaking, cult film ! What chilled my brain is the characters and lighter way of seeing life and no CG! This my only movie I liked Vijay sethupathi, loved it. Below scenes lightened in my heart:
1. Ambala singham scene.
2. Kalakararu unga allu by fahad faasil.
3. Raasu kutty saying ding dong.
4. Adhu kalu scene, Underground scene of meeting of Shilpa - arputham dhanasekhar (Jesus devotee).
Realism cinema re born with a bang !

Omg this should have been India’s submission to the Oscar’s! Just the panel shows how this movie and the makers could have been darlings of the film festival circuit. One reason Parasite was so popular was because of director Bong Jung Ho’s interviews and panels discussing the movie at various film festival prior to to the Oscar. Gully Boy is a very good film but this has elements that would have made it a very strong contender to being shortlisted. Also the Academy always shows support for the LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 community.

sophia mary This was the “Slumdog Millionaire” of Indian cinema for the foreign film category 2020. The underdog story would have been awesome. All the movies were good or great but they needed to choose which would make an impact to the Academy members/voters. Just the poster & trailer would have made them pay attention in n my opinion. I guess we will never know....
English is necessary but some students are keen to learn French, German or any foreign language why not we would have keenness for learning our own country languages like tamil , Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam etc !! I

My review of the film on IMDB: Super Deluxe: Four stories revolving around four lead characters the only connection is that all of them are considered 'morally wrong" or "disgusting" by the society: adulteress wife, sex changed husband, pornstar mom, horny teenagers! Even the audience get that feeling at the first look however as we travel with the characters the perception slowly changes..at least that's what the film tries to do. At some point if you realise the bigger evil is judging people too quickly without having lived in their shoes, thats the biggest takeaway from the film if you get it. Majority of the population are interested in others life and are too quick to judge others and this majority will sure hate this film because it pricks their conscience and makes them realise judging people is the worst sin compared to any of the 'sins' mentioned above. The master stroke is getting an alien into the picture which conveys there are so many things beyond the understanding of humans. Therefore for all those who act like they know-it-all can just shut up and mind their own business. "Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter" is the underlying theme which is beautifully portrayed. Some part might makes you very uncomfortable but overall its a brilliantly executed plot with impeccable performances, top-notch Cinematography and BGM. Definitely not for the weak-hearted but its a must-watch for the strong minded!

Best movie I've seen in a long long time
This movie is an outcome of the chaotic information web in the mind of the director. Aliens, quantum physics, philosophy of everything is part of the one and so on. All this is reflected through the lens of life in the film !! A beautiful blend of everything !! Chaotic minds !!
I wouldn’t say I am inspired from the director. I have the urge to create something after watching this film. That urge surpasses the inspiration aspect. Kudos to you TKR !! Take another 8 years. But give us something that does something to us beyond inspiration like this one !!
Sorry he is not writing this one super deluxe story for 8 years . He has done 2 many writing work and associated with director GVM in yennai arindhal .
I second you on this Tonie. Super Deluxe has been one of the better films that I have watched that put you in a zone where you feel I should have made this film. More than the content of the film, it's the blatant audacity of making something so wild and so original that it blows your socks off. Hats off to the team for pulling this beast.
