The Blu Ray apparently cut this song, I distinctly remember it on the VHS, it puts it out there for the less astute viewers that Emelius Browne is a con-man but with a supreme sense of showmanship. I miss this song dearly and frankly surprised the Blu Ray lacked it. Well done Mr. Tomlinson, I feel for your performance here that has since been lost.
I just checked Disney+ now, bit disappointed that they cut out this song from it.. why did they do that for?! 😞😞 does anyone think the DVD version of the film would have this as an extra scene?
@@sakurablossoming87 yeah I just watched the Disney Plus version as haven't watched it since I was a kid on VHS but the film felt like their were several bits missing as the story didn't feel complete and it jumped around, and I swear the German soldiers had subtitles before... though I am going off a 30 year memory here so maybe I have forgot?
I remember this song from the soundtrack record that our family had when I was a child, but it's been ages since I watched the film, so I couldn't remember where it fit in. I just watched the film on Disney+, and I heard hints of the song in the score of a few scenes, but was disappointed when it ended and the scene never appeared. Thanks for sharing this and keeping the song alive!
Aww :( I agree with you...Mr. Browne's been trying as hard as he can to show what he's got, though he failed. On the bright side though, he found something even better, more likely, SOMEONE even better: Miss Price. :)
It's funny how with the song put back in it the mood of the scene goes from making you feel sorry for someone who can't even do a few magic tricks to laughing at such an inept con artist.
YEAH. I was watching bedknobs and broomsticks on Disney plus and almost thought i was losing my mind because this musical number was my favorite of the whole movie
TheKiss alot of people are talking about songs that were cut and im confused because i had a tape with this movie that my parents recorded from the tv and these songs were in it including this song
TheKiss To me it kind of makes sense. He's not claiming that it's REALLY magic... he's claiming that they're tricks and good for showmanship. Also, it's "singing". Often in musicals, what's sung is what is communicated to the audience (us), not to the others in the film. In the end, even without the song, he shows that he's a fake even though he kind of tries to put on a good show. Without the song you only get the fake part, and not the showmanship, which is laregely what his character is all about. Frankly, I like the song being in there. =))
Mark Heithaus Yeah, after watching it again I think you're right. There's a pretty clear distinction between the things he's singing, and the things he's saying to the crowd of people. Whether or not that distinction would be clear to a child watching the movie is something else.... And I do like the "showmanly" aspect of his character that comes across here. In the original cut of the film, which I grew up with, Brown comes across as more of a failure and a dishonest person. I like him much better this way.
I love this song, but now I understand why it was cut. I only knew it from the vinyl soundtrack I had (have somewhere) as a child. He really shouldn't be telling this to the crowd. It might work as an aside to himself between the shtick or a bit later to explain himself to Miss Price, but not in this context. Great song and scene, though. Thanks for sharing!
I can't see any reason why they thought it would be a good idea to cut this. "It doesn't make any sense" doesn't cut it with me. This was my favourite film when I was 4. I'm 21 now and I was watching this with my cousin's children and I couldn't believe that this wasn't in it anymore! When I was little, I watched it on vhs copy, they watch it now on Sky Movies and it's suddenly been cut. I also noticed that Netflix had this film just over a year ago with the complete song, deleted the film and over a year later it's back. Without the scene. I dunno. Everything seems to offend one person or another in this day and age, I can't help thinking they've removed it out of fear of offending someone, however I can't see ANYTHING wrong with it. If it "didn't make sense" Walt Disney would have taken it out himself, but he didn't, he kept this in. So why people are now choosing to get rid after so many years of this being included in the film is ridiculous. Leave it alone. It's a classic.
+myhugesmallworld I think this scene is an important part in the film because Miss Price has been getting lessons from someone who she believes to be all powerful and have a great knowledge in witchcraft ,instead she is greeted with a street magician
Blame Radio City Music Hall. The story goes that they wanted the film under 2 hours for the premiere. Disney did what they could, but forgot the rest until the mid-90s, when the hunt for one scene turned into a re-discovery of many more, including this one.
my gosh the german version has way way! more cuts almost all singing parts are out this scene is so much lonager then in german but it mades no diffrent... the solid window glas made me and my Brtother always cry what a failure 🤣🤣🤣 gets me every time!
It is lol .... it was! David Tomlinson . A great British actor. Started as an airplane pilot till one day he crashed. He father was a lawyer therefore, he managed to solve the issue
Disney + cut the beginning part of his speech and the song. Which is disappointing cause I grew up watching this movie. And I honestly never thought that this was all that bad. He may have been a con-man, but he was just trying to bring some entertainment to people during that time of war at the same time. I mean yeah the entertainment part didn’t work out so well but at least he tried 😅
It’s nothing to do with bringing joy to anyone. He is an absolute all out con man. The point is he’s redeemed. He has a much more satisfying story arc if they keep this in
Like many politicians who are all flair and vigor, with no practical plans of follow-through. Back in 2016, ABC News explained how a politician could cause scandals, be petty, be passive aggressive, and stir up so much drama, all while winning over many ardent supporters. Mainly with attitude, charisma, and an accent of a New Yorker. Whether we're talking about a president from Queens, a senator from Brooklyn, or (in more recent elections) a congresswoman from the Bronx.

David Tomlinson Legend
DAVID TOMLINSON IS AN EXCELLENT ACTOR
Glad you think so he’s the same actor who played it for daddy in Mary Poppins Mr. Banks
He could charm any bird off any tree. Rest in Peace, Mr. Tomlinson.

This should have been included in the original version of the movie as should’ve all other deleted scenes!

This always made me cry as a child because I couldn't deal with what a failure this man had clearly become.
You were an odd kid.
He redeemed himself later in the movie
Sounds like a child with empathy. I felt exactly the same. He’s a sad state when we first meet him
I'm 10 and this movie is my childhood!!!
It's funny how with the song put back in it the mood of the scene goes from making you feel sorry for someone who can't even do a few magic tricks to laughing at such an inept con artist.
Mr. Browne is a mix of Bert and George Banks
That's the perfect way to put it
And Miss Price is a mix of Mrs Banks and of course Mary Poppins!
Omg love bedknobs and broomsticks!!
POV. You looked for this video to check if you had lost your mind and thought the prof had a song
YEAH. I was watching bedknobs and broomsticks on Disney plus and almost thought i was losing my mind because this musical number was my favorite of the whole movie
I've always loved the orchestral version of "With a Flair" that plays as the kids push the bed.
I'm glad this was cut. It doesn't make sense for him to admit he's a phony in the song, then keep trying to fool them for 5 more minutes.
Come to think of it, that's true and I agree.
The song in itself is whimsical though :))

I still love the movie. I'm almost 31 and it remains one of my favorites =)
I watch this as a kid and recently bought the dvd, this scene has been cut a lot in the dvd
You need to get the 2001 dvd which has all the footage. It was released again in 2009 but the 2001 has more special features included.
@@anthonysimpsonanygoround8749 thank you 🙏
The 2001 dvd release which has more special features has King Leonidas and the soccer cartoon characters shown large on the cover.
my boyfriend and I have THAT gold box where the ball "levitates" into the air.ONLY 1 made for this movie
You guys have that exact gold box? :O That's awesome! Where did you manage to find it?
he got it at a Disney Auction a long time ago....We have it safely in a glass box.
James Baum Can you please post a photo or video of it? Be so amazing to see it
James
That's amazing
This was cut out of the Disney+ version. Bloody shame. It's absolutely hilarious 😂
I remember this and a few more scenes now they cut it off even Disney +
That's not right
Probably woke crowd...

To do something with a flair means to do something in style doesn't it?
Sorry i didn’t get its why was it cut?
I love magic
the professor is looking like a wizard
That poor guy's hat 😂😂
Wow, this is different.
Another Flim & Flam-type song! ;D
What version has this song
I don't remember whether it's a Blu-ray or a VHS tape
Digital doesn't have it and streaming doesn't either
This is my DVD of the movie
2:58 A facepalm could have been the perfect choice for this scene
It must have made it to some theaters because I saw this scene in the theater when I was little.
It's George Banks!!!
Actually David Tomlinson
I am watchin this on disney plus and its been cut from the movie wtf

Amo esta pelicula pero me entristese que las mejores canciones fueron cortadas. Angela dice que la produccion perdio la pelicula completa.
Solo queda una canción por completar, A Step In The Right Direction.
Me gustaría que un día de estos, se exhiba la película sin cortes.

We don't have this song in the french version.

Mr. Browne is making an idiot of himself in front of these people! No wonder the bookman called him a cheapjack, 10th rate entertainer.
The sound quality is terrible!
or the Australian version
Looks like Donald Trump's campaign theme song.
