This is the best video I've seen on these two guitars Thank you so much for doing it I've been struggling, figuring out if there was another Silverstone, I could get, which is similar to my 1303 But I really think this guitar is amazing and there's nothing like it
I love the sound of the lipstick single coils of the 1303, it really highlights the nuance of your playing, but the 1478 (while sounding a bit darker which initially turned me off) looks great and I imagine feels more comfortable
Totally, the lipsticks have a cool thing going. I initially was turned off by the wolly-ness of the 1478 pickups too, but it kinda grew on me, especially for the gainier stuff.
If it were me I think I'd be keeping the 1478. To be real, judging solely on the pictures online I wouldn't have given it a 2nd look. I know the styling of silvertones is typically quirky like that, but there's something about the pickguard shape that throws my eyes off with how the curves aren't congruent with the guitar's body -- seeing it in your hands, though, I feel like it looks totally fine. I do also like extra slight thickness in tone of its pickups compared to the 1303. Tbh both sound really nice for the type of pretty / clean ambient stuff you normally play!
I'm leaning that way. Having a good bit of guitars that execute the "clean/pristine" tones here, I'm really digging the warmth and texture of the 1478. And it kind of does the dirty ambient thing in a fun way. We'll see...
Man I had a silvertone strat had made by samick on headstock I don't know anything about but I do till this day I judge all necks by that guitar. Most comfortable playing neck I ever felt wish I would have kept it.
Hmm. I think the 1303 since it's more similar to a Dano, which have gone up in price a good bit. Good for someone needing something totally different. Thanks for the vid.
Silvertone with the DeArmond de grill pick ups looks interesting have you tried that? Has anyone any thoughts about the sound over the sound of lipsticks, please?
1303 has more character and distinct voice, when I think Silvertone, I think the 1303. The 1478 looks like a Harmony Sillouhette knockoff. Even the headstock and truss rod cover look identical. I also don’t like it’s pickups as much, some muddy mids compared to the clarity of the 1303.
I tend to agree with most of that too. Very similar style to my Harmony, and the Harmony would just get all the playing time as the pickups are more clear and articulate. The lipsticks continue to intrigue me, love the clarity they give.
1478 seems like it’d be useable in more situations but the 1303 is more distinct. So, if it was me, Ide choose the 1303. It looks cool and I don’t have anything else that can sound like that.
I prefer the hardtail of the 1303. They both were excellent, the 1303 would be the easier to restring, but the Vibrato of the Bigsby is a feature that you may want to have.
I bought the 1478 one like 3 years ago, but I have had sooo many problems with the tuning machines and the bigbsy overall. can someone try and help me out on what to do?
Is there any easy replacement bridge to get a hold of for the 1478? One of the string posts in mine has actually broken off, and i cant find it so i have to buy a new bridge
bummer! I'd definitely bring it to a reputable tech in your area and get their read. Tuners might be an easy swap, Bigsby can be a bit tricky to troubleshoot/remedy if you don't know what you're looking for but a tech should be able to help.
This may be a weird analysis but I see the 1478 as the better-quality product and the 1303 as the obvious choice. The 1303 is distinctive for its lipstick brightness. It checks all the boxes for why I would want a Silvertone or Danelectro (I lean Silvertone). The 1303 takes the Tele/Strat single-coil sound a step further into trebly brightness. It’s the sound that makes me think of “Western Union” by Five Americans and much of Springsteen. Plus it’s simpler and less finicky than the 1478 because of the hard tail, stringing thru body and single volume and tone controls. It’s all of what I want and none of what I don’t.
They both sound cool, the 1303 definitely sounds more professional. The 1478 almost sounds like a toy guitar, but it works in its own way, I just wouldn't own that guitar as my primary sound. The 1303 could pass as your only guitar. For me at least.
1478 has visual appeal, but 1303 just sounds better in the examples given. Really wasn't a fan of the higher gain sounds of either set of pickups, so I'd probably keep gain a little lower than the examples. The 1478 seems a bit deader - maybe the bigsby contributes to that, not sure? Video turned me onto the 1303 sound.
1478. I've had one for a year. Love it!
That one had a cool growl to it
This is the best video I've seen on these two guitars

My pleasure, glad it was helpful!
I’ve been looking at getting a 1478, and this video just convinced me to go for it!
Love it! Hope you enjoy, they're fun little guitars.

Your backround setup reminds me of Jhs haha I love it!
Hah thanks ✌🏼
really great playing, thanks for showing these off! have you gotten a chance to play some of the other Silvertone reissues?
thank you! Just these two. I'm still jonesing for a 1449 tho
I have a 1423 Jupiter and enjoy it immensely haha

That's awesome , it's great when the budget friendly stuff still feels great.

I like 1478!
I was convinced going into this I'd love the 1303 (and I do) BUT the grit from the 1478 is realllly cool!
both
My mannn
does anyone know what tuning his playing in?
Standard tuning 👍🏼

Bigsbys are for sure a pain to restring. The 1303 stuck around - it’s one of the most unique sounding guitars I own!
@@AmbientEndeavors Have you tried down tuning it? I put 13s on mine and in c standard it sounds amazing.
hi,I have the 1478,both pu are setting ,at the same heights like mine? Want you give me yours heights? tnx

there is something magical about the 1303. I love the lipstick pickups, they do provide this versatile mix of fulness and clarity.

yeah , I think the Bigsby works to deaden the attack of the 1478. I love the 1303's unique sound with the lipsticks.
Not a fan of how twangy the 1478 sounds.
fair enough!
