    Thanks man! I have an Isuzu 3LB1 as a generator on my boat. You helped me figure out the issue. It was the lift pump. Cheers!

      Glad to hear it! Yes I love mechanical injection systems since they are just so simple!

    I have the same motor in an 1998 Isuzu box truck. Was having the same issue described. Fuel filter you are referring to had not been changed in 3+ years. Just changed it today. Issue seems to be resolved. Nice video. Ty!

      Nice! Happy to help. Yeah I’m amazed at how weak they can get when starved for fuel. Otherwise it’s been an awesome engine with no problems!

      Thanks for replying to comments. I’m wondering if you know, would low oil pressure cause a fuel delivery problem with the lift pump or injector pump?

      @TomBrueggen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jason Holt not that I’m aware of in this engine. I believe it is all mechanical (gear driven) and the injectors are definitely mechanical. I know some diesel pickups rely on oil pressure to run their injectors and or injector pumps, but this Isuzu engine is all simple mechanical. At least as far as I know.

    Best video explaining isuzu engine my npr keeps dying after I fill filter and start it up, won't up fuel from tank changed primer still same but now I know little lift pump must be bad

      Before you go changing the lift pump, be sure to blow all your fuel lines clear. I start at the tank and take each one off and blow through with compressed air or do my best to shake it out and then rinse through with fuel. Every time I open my tank drain to remove water, I have to shove a wire up in the drain to clear debris and sludge before the water will start draining out. That same crap is in the lines

      @@TomBrueggen i put new lines in but thanks i ended up selling it as is i got the truck for free they called my company to have it removed so i put a little into it to get it running couldnt see scrapping it with 130 and no damage

    I have a 2800 of the same year. Mine has an electric pump between the tank and lift pump and the fuel water separator is located on the side of the tank rather on the hyd pump side. It all looks retrofitted. I am hoping that I have a plugged screen on the bolt which I learned from your comments. Looks to be the same motor with some minor differences. When cold I start and die over and over again, then it runs just chugging for a bit then runs fine all day. Already checked for air leaks but now I plan to pull that fitting. Thanks for the walk through.

      Yeah this is why I love simple old mechanical diesel. You don't have to question if it's a stupid sensor somewhere. Most likely just a plugged filter. Good luck!

    There’s also a banjo bolt on the suction side of the lift pump which has a plastic gauze filter screwed into it .
    Worth checking that

  • @sawdustmaker3
    @sawdustmaker3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tom, there is a banjo bolt on the bottom of your lift pump that has a screen in it. I pulled that screen out of my 3400q today, and it was trashed up again after 40 hours of running.

      Mine is a 96 so it may be a little different.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure. I read other folks mentioned the banjo bolt, but I didn't even know what it was to seek out. Repairing the filters fixed my issue, for now. But I'd like to go through and check everything to make sure it's up to par. This is an older abused machine, and she needs all the TLC I can give her!

    • @sawdustmaker3

      Yeah, on the side of the injection pump where the line comes from the separator That banjo bolt on the bottom is supposed to have a plastic screen in it. The separator on yours is not factory. It’s on the side of the tank from the factory.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I figured that much out from another guy. He was telling me to look on the side of the tank for the water separator. I was really confused for a few minutes. Duh!

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey so you have a 3400 quantum too? Your machine? We need to stay in touch man. Never hurts to know more people with these machines to catch up with when they act up. I'd like to get my somewhat restored if possible, at least to some of the basic functions. It's probably not feasible really to invest back into things like the electronics and such. But I feel like that electric dial throttle would be nice compared to this mechanical lever I have to yank on. And I wonder how nice it would be to have the power up mode. I just rev mine up and go.

    I have same issue with hitachi ex120
    Think lift pump is buggered as its not getting fuel any further than the lift pump

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      See this one doesn’t have a visible external lift pump. My mechanic suggested it’s built in. I actually started buying the stuff to install an electric boost pump myself but never got around to it. Good luck!!

    There should be a screen at the tank also. They are know for plugging and shuting off the fuel supply from the tank.

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You think this is in the bottom of the tank or what? How do I look for it, or get to it?

    • @sawdustmaker3
      @sawdustmaker3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have looked for another screen. If I’m missing one I’d sure like to know.

    Is that kawasaki hydraulic pump?

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kery Chesh huh, I don’t know. I looked up the spec sheet and it doesn’t specify the maker of the pump.

    Hello sir please help tell me sir this fuel injection pump calibration chat

    • @TomBrueggen
      @TomBrueggen  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know what you’re asking of me. I don’t know anything about calibrating these pumps. You’d need to talk to a shop that specializes in rebuilding them.
