If you look into the legends version of Grievous’s backstory and character you can clearly see he is more tragic then he may appear he didn’t choose to be a cyborg he was turned into one after an explosion that nearly killed him, not only that but his hatred for the Jedi stems from the fact that they helped the invading species trying to enslave his people and killed many of them, of course none of this is no longer cannon sadly but I still like to consider it cannon considering it adds a lot to the character and it makes a lot more sense then the stupid reason being “he wanted to improve in combat”

The prequel set build the whole palatine had a plan story. He took the galaxy a piece at a time playing two sides against each other.
He mentally blocked the jedi and warped the force. He spawned so many issues for the jedi they allowed him to add anakin to the council. They allowed him to make calls on their actions without ever going back to the temple and working on their force insight to find out why he even cared that anakin was on the council in the first place knowing that they would likely still not give him the rank and they just did it anway lol.
The republic was hard to maintain but without seeing it at all in action we don't know how easy it was to get rid of it all together with some fear and terror.
Sidious's arrogance in the recent trilogy and the originals is based on the successfulness of the plans he crafted to become the emperor and up to each interaction with the heroes. He was not convinced he could be defeated because he had not been beaten what so ever all this time so once he became the emperor he stopped planning and just maintained the empire and stopped trying to improve vader so vader could have been more immersed in the dark side. Vader trained alone and when hunting jedi but was mainly drifting between the light and the dark on his own over what he did to become who he was in the suit. Had Sidious even honored that possibility of vader turning back to the light after finding his kids he may have planned better.
The ways he loses in the first and last trilogy shows you how the dark side can be strong but it is also emotion based so being overly emotional and less pragmatic cost him twice because he couldn't shut the hell up when trying to get Luke or Rey to do what he wanted.
So each set of movies is necessary to the whole despite what any fan has to say. You need all nine to understand the jedi/sith dynamic and the galaxy. Leaving anything off omits an angle or pov of the galaxy from that characters eyes.

I agree about the sequels not being planned out and that there is no explanation for Palpatine's return but I don't agree with his plans not making sense. He first wanted Kylo's body but when he was redeemed he changed his target to Rey but when he realised that they are a dyad which would restore him and he sucks it out.

    • @MrTaylorAries
      @MrTaylorAries 3 ปีที่แล้ว

His return is the same as the non cannon one that's why they left the details off. The sequels were lightly planned out for Ben to fall to the dark and commit a similar path to vader without ending up half a robot. He bested his master who was imposing and pushing him mentally to do so because Sidious wanted his body as a new host. Ben sacrificed himself for the greater good and showed that one can not simply give extra life without a cost. It cost Sidious to return and it cost Ben to bring Rey back to life.
Snooke was a pawn to push kylo further to the edge and make him more suitable for a host for his spirit. That's why snoke said " the deed split your spirit to the bone.. Your unbalanced". Sidious needed him to fully lean into the dark side for the switch to work.him but ING unbalanced was too much like vader.
The dyad then heals/restores Sidious a great deal and he decided again to just continue ruling and plays with his opponents again because the glee of the dark side being back in his control gave him confidence that nothing could undo him at that time. He never considered that the force could strike back like it did when he and his master messed with the force to create anakin. The force seemingly struck back as yoda was trained in how to communicate from the force and seemingly passed it on or bridged a connection to other jedi alive or dead to reach Rey.
The films tie together very well they just don't seem like it unless you kind of binge watch the star wars shows in mass. I'm talking movies and cannon shows. You can see how the galaxy was never a unit and some favored the dark vs the light depending on where the planet was in the galaxy. The more star wars material I watched the more I see how it weaves together over time to show how the clone wars was this eras mandalorian wars and the republic was doomed as soon as they gave palpatine emergency powers.

Rey is pure light and he wanter to use hers...Third, how they can be light-dark dyad if Kylo is redeemed? Fourth, if he didn't know they are a dyad why did he start suck their Force? Also, his sucking abilities came out of nowhere...Finally, who tf announces his plans to all Galaxy instead of surprise attack?

Yeah but for anyone just watching the movies, Palpatine is definitely the first type, and I would argue that he works extremely well as that. The best first-type villains are the ones that lean into their role and having a blast being evil. Palpatine is a prime example but this also goes for the better Disney villains.
The advantage is that you don‘t need to spend any more than minimal time on them but they will still be riveting because they‘re just fun.

  • @ReySkywalker2
    @ReySkywalker2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Palpatine’s plan with Rey does make sense though because it had to change to fit the current circumstances.
Sidious first wants Kylo to be the vessel for his spirit and “heir to the Sith”. Killing Rey would’ve cemented Kylo within the dark side and proven his worth.
However when Kylo turns to the light, Palpatine states how Leia has disrupted this plan. But sensing the growing shame and fear in Rey, and with her force potential also being high enough to contain Palpatine’s spirit, he turns his sight to her.
He never wanted her to rule herself. When he says “rule here” “as Empress” “on the throne” he really means as a vessel for Palpatine while he rules. Sidious tried to complete the ritual but Ben stops Rey before she falls for the trap.
When Palpatine realises the Dyad has the power to restore his body to its proper form - he needn’t steal a body.
Makes sense to me. Episode 9 is actually really good if you think and give it a chance.

Legends Grievous is a much more compelling villain than in canon, and their rework of him after 2003 did not do him justice. In my opinion, it was perhaps the greatest waste of potential in this whole series. In Legends, Grievous is a sympathetic villain - his species, the Kaleesh, are dominated by another called the Huk, and when their oppression becomes too great, they wage war against them. Led by Grievous (then Qymaen Jai Sheelal) the Kaleesh nearly exterminate the Huk race before they call on the Republic to stop them. The Jedi forcefully repress the Kaleesh army, and the Republic levels crippling economic sanctions against the planet Kalee. Sheelal eventually leaves Kalee, which is in dire straits, and becomes an enforcer for the InterGalactic Banking Clan. When the Clone Wars break out after the formation of the CIS, his allegiance is preordained by his hatred for the Republic and he Jedi. He learned in his youth that the justice and peace they provide is not granted universally, but rather when convenient and lucrative. After Sidious secretly engineers his near death, the stage is set for the rebirth of the Clone Wars’ greatest villain - the terrifying General Grievous.

Maybe people that *don't* think the prequels are masterpieces may fail to comprehend the scope and genius of the story? Yeah, there are arguable flaws. Too much digital and bluescreen? Poor execution of certain characters? Stiff acting and wooden dialogue? But there's a substance, soul and relevance to em which the new films could never comprehend. Those older films operate on a whole other level. The prequels became more powerful than TLJ for eg. could possibly imagine! There's a reason why they and the characters in them mean so much to so many peeps and why they're still full of memorable quote's and meme's. They may be poor films? I aren't a critic so I wouldn't know, but as works of art, they are glorious!

Hal9000 fan-edits of the Prequels make them fun and unironically great. They're still Lucas' work, just snipped and re-arranged a bit.

      Both highly recommended.

Dont even understand why people criticize the "digital" and "bluscreens"....it took Star Wars to the next level, especially the whole scale of Planets, Citys, Fights and more
Everything that was "new" in those 3 movies is now the golden standard for most movies today....everything is digital now and people love it (Avengers etc)
I love the OG trilogy but when i watch them they feel outdated as hell, especially the effects....cant say that for the Prequels
Even the dialogue isnt as bad as people make it, Star Wars always had this "medieval/epic" style of dialogue......these movies are 100% Star Wars and have pretty much everything we love, the soul of these movies are perfect and theyre truly the last real Star Wars expirience

33:12 - No, it's not that there's 1 star wars universe within which canon stories do take place and legends are never happened/non-canon stories. Legends is a valid continuity, it stands as a separate universe. The word "canon" in sw means that a story is canon to some timeline (which of course means that it's part of it), but the word "Canon" means the New Canon/Disney Canon which is a continuity of all the movies and some other media works. So in general we have 2 star wars continuities that are equally valid and both contain George Lucas's movies (episode 1-6). There are not many star wars stories that are non-canon either to Legends nor to the New Canon. (By the way, I know that "Infinities" stories which were never canon are now part of legends, but it doesn't mean they're part of legends timeline. Legends timeline is made out of majority of legends works but not all of them).

I think Vader has considered that the Emperor might replace him, but Luke is the only potential replacement that was actually a threat to him (and survived). And of course, it‘s different when the threat is his own son. He is deeply ambivalent about every single thing about his conflict with Luke. He wants to protect him as much as he wants to turn him.
Every other potential rival, Vader could just contrive to kill. Luke is his weakspot and Palpatine knows this. If he can force them to fight, Luke will probably end up killing Vader eliminating him as a threat. And if Vader wins, he will be even more Palpatine‘s slave than before.

Your best evidence for the Prequels being 'bad' are referring to the 'usual suspects' riding the 'Prequel Hate' bandwagon? Guys like RLM, who basically hate George? Stuckmann and Cosmonaut who clearly don't try very hard to understand the films? Jeremy Jahns and Nostalgia Critic, both of whom ended up backtracking, and Jeremy actually apologised for being so wrong?
Then you flat out contradict your evidence that 'everyone' knows they're bad in the very next sentence. You acknowledge there's positive TH-camrs, but dismissed all their views away entirely, since they ALL think the Prequels were perfect 'Masterpieces'?! Who are we talking about? Does Thor Skywalker? Full Fat Videos? Does Rick Worley? Does CinemaWins? Does Anomaly Inc? Nope. Even the most positive fan, 'Star Wars Theory' doesn't praise them to that extent.
Most of what you just said was subjective opinion, not fact. Also the Prequels being 'liked' well BEFORE they even thought up TCW is a fact beyond question. It's total nonsense to suggest people went regularly, and over the whole summer of '99 to watch a movie they "DIDN'T LIKE?!". TPM grossed $1027 MILLION worldwide, way back in 1999. So what happened? Were the audiences being threatened or hypnotised? Smh.
From the tickets drop after the film's opening weekend, you can generally tell whether the film is well 'liked' or not. The first audiences to see it either give it bad reviews, (as with TLJ and TRoS) or continue to recommend it to friends and family. And many fans may go back to view it multiple times. Hence the figures will reflect that. All three Prequels were all successful for an extended period of time, and total figures actually improved from AOTC ($649 million) to the final episode, ROS ($848 million). That's a fair few 'likes' translated into a fair few dollar bills I'd say!
Now let's take the last Disney Sequel, 'TRoS' as a comparison, where audiences quickly dropped off after the opening week, and the film hardly lasted in the 'top 5' beyond the first month. And already people want it, and the entire Disney trilogy, wiped completely from Canon. TRoS did considerably worse than TLJ, which itself did considerably worse than TFA. And TRoS failed despite being the only big film being shown over Christmas, it still struggled to attract audiences for any length of time. And so this drop in it's total box office figures reflected how much the film was actually 'liked'. (Or disliked)
As for the TCW 'improving' the Prequels for fans, and being the reason they 'like' them now... Let's put this into perspective, it's like saying a giant was improved by an ant! Since TPM sold over 84.5 Million cinema tickets in the USA alone. Revenge of the Sith sold 59 Million US tickets. Whilst 'The Clone Wars' seasons 1 and 2 of the series had only 3 million to 4 million total viewers, however in seasons 3 and 4 the number of viewers dropped to between 1 to 2 million.
Do some research and confirm all this for yourself. I should look forward to a correction and apology in your next Prequels video perhaps?

Yep the prequels were masterpieces. It’s not the Original trilogy but it holds up as being great. The reason people don’t like it is their either following a trend, “I don’t like sand” line, or jar jar & kid Anakin (who weren’t even that bad). I’m glad more people are coming around to the prequels. It’s too bad 3 poorly constructed fan fiction Disney movies needed to be made to opens some of the prequel haters eyes
