Incredible. They offer so much light and in such a small package. I look forward to seeing your review of the other lights and if your time permits, perhaps trying these lights in your use cases.
At some point it would be very useful to compare the main options for steady lighting (vs. flash). I'm looking at supplementing my flash unit with studio lights for shooting pets. But clueless to what is good (without being really expensive - I'm not a full time pro).
Look to be excellent design and highly crafted lights. I tend to use available light whenever possibly in my photography, but to date have support from Rotolight - looks like they have competition !
I love the style of these lights. I'm looking at the Avant creator kit. Which would you use in a small studio space and also use outdoors on occasion? Do you think the Avant is bright enough for outdoor use?
Thanks Matt. I love good engineering and a very well thought out product. Just a wee question: Mobile charging options? Perhaps from the usual 12v outlets found in cars? Yup! certainly looks like a Blad. I had an ELM 500 and the Hobolite resembles a 220 film back with lens on the front.
Hi Barry, the Mini is powered by USB-C, so it can come from any USB-C source. The Avant is either from mains power or from a Vmount battery. And there are different ways to charge V mount batteries when on the go.
They look so retro, love their style
Very good looking !!!
Saw these being used at a photo roadshow last year and they are great and look different from every other light

Yes I am looking forward to taking them out !!!
great review thanks Matt
This looks great. I love the style of it. Thanks Matt!
No problemo Balázs
Very stylish, no question about it. Would like to see them in use for both stills and vid, hope that's what is coming next...
Coming soon, busy dance card at the moment
Very cool! Love when form and function are so gorgeously in sync! :) PS -- the Hobolite reminds me of my parents' Kodiak Brownie!
Ooops, make that Kodak (damn auto correct; surely Kodak hasn't been gone for that long :) )
I thought they may have had a brown bear.@@merkin22

Thanks I look forward to a deeper review of both lights.

Yeah I will think about making a video about the pros and cons of both systems :)

Cute...for a living room Studio.
Perfect anywhere, everywhere
Looks great but is it bright enough for outdoors?
I will test what is possible in the next vid.
Love the lights but will probably stick to elinchrom, like the one, similar price

Hi Beth, what sort of outdoor usage are you thinking? Can you share a little about your use case, how many subjects, what type of subject etc
Mostly single subject, backlit, or for fill as needed. Also for mushrooms or other macro-ish images.
@@MattIrwinPhotography I decided to try both, Mini and Avant. Can't wait to try them.
Congratulations Beck, love to hear what you think of them, when they arrive :) Cheers Matt@@betheckstein5116

Yes for sure, pending distance and modifiers and which light you choose :)
so the mini can create a spotlight effect?
A tiny retro styled flash would be cool
Hmmmm cool idea
put these next to the new Hasselblad... BOOM

After using Nikon remote flash for so many years, it would take a long while for my old brain to learn its best uses in and outside the studio.
Waiting for the update video.
I now have the pro and micro. They will be next. 😀👍
I don’t like the Hasselblad-look, that is in my opinion a strange choice of design.
