Thank you for this information, I sold my Profoto A10 because it was just too large of a form factor for my ZF!! Ordering today
Super cool indeed, Matt. So tiny, so useful. I have small RGB lights but this, ah, shines when it comes to all the modifiers. Thanks for the review.
The VILTROX 12W RGB Camera Light is the better bet...and cheaper. Build is amazing and can be controlled through phone. 12 watts vs 5watts...no brainer.
Excellent comprehensive review. Looks to be a great bit of kit to have in your bag. Thanks Matt😊
I spy the Viltrox 16mm. Do you have an upcoming review? I'm very interested in this lens as there aren't many full frame options for f1.8 lenses below 20mm.
Cool indeed. Love how small it is. If it doesn’t live in my camera bag, it will live in the glove box. Very handy. Nice design. I’ve been looking to get a small light for a while. This fits the need.
Thanks for the review Matt. 👍🏻
Does it work as a flash
How quiet is this & would the noise level of this unit be distracting for video? Having previously bought the Hobolite Mini, I'm reluctant to use that one for video. Otherwise it makes a great portable unit for putting a bit of light where it's needed. Thanks for the interesting content!
Zero noise, no fan :)
Ok most of the time looks sort of doesn't come into it for me; function before form, but I will say that appears to nail it in both function and form. It looks like it has an old school cool look to it
I got an SB-400 because a) my D750s built-in flash doesn't extend high enough to clear the lens hood at wider angles, and b) none of the interesting Z-mount bodies have a built-in flash anyway. But this flash is the only reason I need a AA battery charger when I'm traveling. And traveling is where I do 90% of my photography.
I find it hard to believe I'm the only one who wants a flash like that, which can either take an EN-EL15, or has a USB-C PD port (plus the ability to replace the internal battery when it's dead).
Unfortunately, I think this isn't it. And aesthetics are a distant second to me.
just a good design, the light power is too weak
Not sure what you mean here, it can be used in all sorts of scenarios.
unfortunately, not suitable for photography...
a year to two ago, I purchased a used Nikon flash called the SB400. Its very small and runs on two AAA cells, tilts up for bounce. Very small and able to fill.
You certainly can use it for photography, it just depends which type, I will do a photography specific video for this light. Great for intimate portraits, still life, food, vlogging and more :)
I totally agree thats is a cool looking light, even has muted orange to go with your orange ZF. I wasn't able to get a Sunset Orange ZF, only the boring black so no cool for me!!!! Somebody is going to produce replacement orange inserts for cameras and I will be the first to purchase a set. Off with the black and on with the cool orange. Not sure what it will cost but I'm sure it will be less expensive that what I am paying for counseling and antidepressants now. Don't get me wrong,I like my Zf , even in black. I purchased a nice rich leather cover for it so that helps move up the cool scale just a bit. Have a great weekend everybody and stay COOL! Just remember this, you don't always have to be cool but you should always look cool.
The Nikon ZF is cool, no matter the colour 😉
