L'Oréal, the world's largest multinational cosmetics company, recently acquired Kenya’s Interconsumer Products Ltd’s flagship brand, Nice & Lovely, in a multi-million dollar deal. This acquisition follows L'Oréal's entry into the Kenyan market in 2011 and 18 months of negotiations with Interconsumer Products Ltd. To facilitate the buyout, Interconsumer transferred its beauty division to a new entity, Interworld Cosmetics, which was subsequently acquired and rebranded as Interbeauty Products under L'Oréal. The deal highlights the growth of Nice & Lovely, which started as a small business selling beauty products and grew into a leading brand in East Africa, thanks to strategic efforts by its founder, Paul Kinuthia.
The acquisition was not without challenges, as Interconsumer had to defend its Nice & Lovely trademark in court against L'Oréal in both Kenya and Uganda. Despite opposition, Kenyan courts ruled in favor of Interconsumer, allowing the trademark to co-exist with L'Oréal’s Dark & Lovely brand. This legal battle underscores the importance of intellectual property rights and brand valuation in business growth and acquisition. Ultimately, L'Oréal’s purchase of Nice & Lovely stands as a testament to the power of brand building and persistence, showing that local businesses can achieve global recognition through strategic growth and IP protection.

I love the confidence of an independent woman. A wealthy, smart, independent woman.
She's not independent, she works for L'Oréal Kenya she has a boss that she has to answer to.
I love Patricia Ithaga. I saw this interview and rushed here ...thank you CTA

Tenacious. She is a unicorn. To be that audacious as a woman in those days is so rare.
