I used to watch PM back when it was on VGBC but have kinda fallen off since then, so it's cool to see a recap video like this and to see so many people still playing. I'd love a recap vid like this every 1-2 months too, since it can be hard to keep up sometimes

I think the only pm major the community had was The Flex Zone 2, with Malachi getting first, Sosa second, and Flipp third.
I wish there were more tournaments for Project M :(

Melee is a real game in the series. PM isn't. Pretty dumb to compare them like that lol

But Nintendo actually tried to shut down Melee tournaments before, look it up if you don't believe me
melee coming back vs pm coming back are 2 entirely different situations. One was an actual smash game whereas the other is a mod. With Melee Nintendo took a stance on competitive smash. With PM, it being competitive was small potatoes to the fact that it was ALSO a mod of their game. PM has basically no chance of coming back and using melee as an example is pointless and really stupid of you.
I was thinking of getting PM actually, so seeing the community being in tact after everything that went down is kinda remarkable!

As someone who has got into competitive smash starting at PM, it makes me really happy that it is still thriving! Even though I have switched to melee as my main game, PM still holds a special spot in games for me. Man i miss the character and stage diversity haha

PM's very existence is fascinating. Sure Melee has had its revival but this one is whole other animal. If I had the money and know how I'd love to make a huge documentary on it. Nevertheless it's great see this and 'The Big Balc' mini docs of late, proof that people still care. Well done!

Project M grew really depressing last year. The Sm4sh modding community proved to be very controversial to them, for as soon as somebody imported one of their animations, all hell broke lose.
Even the Melee HD mod has recently started that, due to a cease and desist from the PMDT, they will be halting animation imports from that mod and, eventually, remove any existing animations they have on it where it stands now; with Sonic being the last Project M veteran to return with everything but his up taunt.
Truly is a sad shame, cause I would've loved to see PM Wario and especially PM Roy to make a splash, but there's nothing we can do now.
For real, they just became unusually defensive about their mod. People only play it more now, if anything, thanks to Lyn, Knuckles and, eventually, the best character mod ever made: Waluigi.
These characters alone guaranteed that nobody would let go of Project M. So, it's sad to see that we can't return it to Sm4sh.
you do realize why they shut that shit down right? there's a reason they don't develop it anymore or want anybody bringing it to wiiU and causing more problems

It was interesting hearing about a less popular smash scene and how pm's meta developed after its updates ceased.

Freddie Simmons Finally someone gets it! King of 2 tier lists is the worst character in the whole game. Love how they had the nerve to add him, Olimar, and Rob yet Temporarily ban Roy, Mewtwo, and Dr. Mario and Permanently ban Young Link and Pichu.
...and did I mention I was mostly a Roy/Young Link player?
like two things here are absolutley insane...first one is that pm is banned on twitch so its streamed on hitbox and second one is that when you set attack to c-stick it doesnt uptilt but it upsmashes...

So good! Absolutely loved it! Question though, what does everyone thing of the balance between characters in pm 3.6? I see issues for sure, but I'm not convinced the game is completely unbalanced. I think it's personally pretty well balanced, but I wonder what others think.

I love PM. The last version I played seriously was 3.5, then kinda dropped it for Sm4sh since it´s so hard to follow (being clandestine and all) but it makes this video doubly better for me. Mad props man. Also, two quick questions I´d appreciate if somebody answered:
1-Did they ever fix the single player, or at least the unwinnable events? I mean the ones dealing with the stages like "reach the end of mushroomy kingdom" or "break the floor in Skyworld"?
And, 2- Which version is the one being used in tourneys? I´m guessing 3.6 vanilla (not the community build) but I´d appreciatte some clarification.

I can't answer question 1 as I haven't tried all the events, but I wouldn't be surprised if mushroomy kingdom is still broken since we have to write over old stages to make room for new ones.
As for question 2: Yes the most widely used version of PM is vanilla 3.6. There are other locations that use the leaked 3.61 balance patch, namely west Pennsylvania, Brazil, and maybe one or two others. There are also a few other community builds out there (I know Japan uses a community build with vanilla 3.6 balance plus leaked characters). But every major in 2016 and to this day uses vanilla 3.6 for balance, and maybe cosmetic changes on top.
Thank you so much. I dropped it after a while because the community kinda burned me, but I still love the game. I want to keep in touch with it but due to the official shutdown and twitch bullshit it seems kinda clandestine. Any sites I can follow other than maybe smashboards?

Did you miss Flex Zone 2 already? Last week we had Sosa, Malachi, and Flipp all at the same tournament with 100+ entrants. Shuffle in April, Bigger Balc in May, Smash N Splash in June, Supernova in July.... I think we're good :).

Hey Reslived, recently converted PM fan here, will PM begin using big mods like Legacy XP as a replacement to the original PM devs? Legacy has gotten me interested in the scene.
I don't think so. Legacy TE is a great mod that retains the competitive balance of the original PM. I don't think competitive PM will move away from the original balance.

umm.... why didn't you mention Smash Bros Legacy!?... dude... seriously
probably because Legacy wasn't something that grew the competitive community. It was purely for casual play. Now that LTE is out, and a few groups like The Big Balc have used it, it could become notable this year. It is a great build, and it would be neat to see it at future events, but part of me feels that it will drop off pretty fast.

the list is purely based on tournament games, if there is nobody playing pit in tournaments he will be considered bottom tier, even if he has potential.
Apparently, anything you want to play him for, he just gets outdone by someone else. And he has a bunch of moves that don't help him out.
Not gonna lie PM3.6 is not in a stable position at all. Online and offline if you look at how so many of the characters still have some hit box issues as well as a lot of tools that still keeps the game unbalanced. There are issues like re-grabbing ledge with some characters is very wonky where you will end up letting go immediately.
So.. people in the Midwest just don't play? Or exist?
