Where's my bass clarinet family? This song is beautiful. I get hit deep in the feels every time I play it. Playing the bottom level of sound makes it even better. I can enjoy all the beautiful higher parts while still have a heck load of fun playing the bass clarinet part. This song is heart wrenching and beautiful.
+Joslyn Longoria I absolutely love the horn part! The bass clarinets sit right in front of the horns in my band, so I really get to enjoy it! The horns always do good at bringing out the emotion. The horns and the bass line (tuba, bass clarinet, baritone, Bari saxophone). Since I'm a bass clarinet player, I get to play the beautiful bass line, hear the gorgeous horn line (sometimes almost brings me to tears and I'm not the type of guy that cries). I just wish our 7 horns would actually put some air in to the horns. I know the sound goes behind you, but if three horns can play over an entire orchestra than certainly 7 can bring out their part(within context). Props to you for having one of the two parts in this song that can bring a man who doesn't show his emotions like me to tears. Your part and my bass clarinet/bass line part is the real meat of this song and I love it!
+Joslyn Longoria I like it at the end when you can literally feel the ground rumble (we have a big band). And on top of that, you guys just singing out! If only this was a symphony arrangement (if only my school had an orchestra, let alone a symphony). Imagine what you could do with the strings in this song!
+Joslyn Longoria my school was thinking about getting an orchestra, but we needed a new middle school. Which I don't blame them. But there is so much you could do with the strings like make the violins play the woodwind runs or make the double basses play along side is bass clarinets in that trumpet call from a far hill quiet parts. You know, before things start to get loud.
Words cannot express how much I love this piece of musical art. Such an elegant masterpiece. I remember playing the flute solo back when I was in high school. Good times.
We're playing this for our first concert this year and I just Measure 84 is the beginning of a nightmare for us flutes. ROBERT WE NEED TO *BREATHE* IT IS HARD TO CIRCLE BREATHE WITH A FLUTE on another note (haha...note), this piece sounds similar to one I played last year. "Ghost Dances" was its name. Wonderful piece. Anyways, gotta go rehearse. (Picks up flute)
I'm on Tuba, I'd love to be able to circular breath, but its useless, change your cheeks, it will destroy your embouchure & I was only able to play shit an 1/8 note at 64 BPM.. much more useful for trumpet or trombone..
I'm a freshman and I love this piece. playing it for our spring concert this year and gotta say that French horn 1 is very fun to play. love love love!!!
+Alex Martinez (JackSLR783) It is hard, with accents and crescendos and high notes and low notes while being in tune and making sure you are in time and also looking at key signatures. Even the simplest songs are challenging if you set out to play them right
2nd clarinet and in 7th grade! Pretty fun, only some difficult parts with measure 73 for me, but it’s pretty easy once I memorize the base of it and just add a key.
That french horn part in measure 9 was the best I played that this weekend in all district band for district XI in Va. I was first chair and we played this as a middle school band with only 1 1/2 days to prepare it
We played this for our band evaluation...called LGPE in Georgia... and we had so much fun playing it! The flute part is really cool but difficult because of the speed
I played snare on this piece as a 7th grader in all state band, I found the timing around 2:50 to be a little weird for the snare even though it fit with the music
at around 2:20 I believe, why is there a claves part and a cowbell with the bass bow present? Is it supposed to show contrast? I know it says misterioso there but I really don't know any background to this piece. What's it about?
My head keeps imagining a field. Starts at night, then the sun rises. Animals wake up and frolic around. Sky turns gray, followed by thunder and lightning. Animals find cover. Storm passes, sun comes back out, animals resume frolicking. Song ends on a shot of clear blue sky.
My band could've made honors band last year but we fucked up at Marching :( but we're playing Sheherezade next year for marching and it's my Senior year so we're gonna make it!!!
Yo to my trumpets with chops. If you take 4:10 up an octave it is absolutely beautiful to play in sync with the other parts 🎺 great for expirementation

I love that flute solo so much.
When I made All-State this year, we actually had Robert Sheldon as our conductor and this was one of the songs that we played!
I've met Robert Sheldon, he is a beast! Just amazing, so enthusiastic about music and just hilarious. And did i mention extremely talented?
He is pretty funny. Working with him is pretty cool
I played snare drum for this song. It brings back memories of being in the high school band. Those times were fun and I still have the music too.

An Absolutely beautiful piece. I'm playing this right now for school! It's so fun and amazing to play
2nd clarinet and in 7th grade! Pretty fun, only some difficult parts with measure 73 for me, but it’s pretty easy once I memorize the base of it and just add a key.

It is supposed to add an eerie effect
I’ve played this piece with Robert Sheldon himself and he said he used that noise to mimic the sound of the ship getting ready to break apart
