Great video. Just pondering whether to give Barons War a go. We play a fair bit of WOTR in 28mm using Hail Caesar (in the same way as 7th Son’s videos) but it leaves me a bit cold. Literally the only character in the game comes from how you paint the models and who they represent, otherwise it’s literally a dice rolling contest. Barons War appeals much more because of being a skirmish game, not rank and flank, and the amount of character you can get into it, not to mention the lower figure count.
I’m on the fence about this book though. I’ll probably end up getting it (I’m waiting to see if any Black Friday deals will be announced) but I doubt I’ll use the Outlaws retinue at all, I’d rather have nobles or Crusades. The first campaign I doubt I’d use for the same reason, though I suppose you could easily just swap out the Outlaws for nobles or Muslim forces. The DIY campaign looks the most interesting but I’d rather there was an online version to plot hex moves etc so that you don’t have to effectively create your own quite large board game just to play it. I’m just concerned that it won’t justify the significant amount of effort and possibly expense that will be involved.
If I do go for Barons War though I think I’ll definitely have to get a 3D printer for all the terrain needs. I’ve avoided it up until now but buying that much terrain will get costly!

@@Edward-Plantagenet i feel similar about hail Caesar tbh. You won’t regret the book I don’t think as some nice stuff in there even if you don’t play the game in the end

I wholeheartedly agree that I hope the next part of Barons' War is based in the crusades. On the 3rd Crusade, they've already done models for kings Richard I and Philip II, but I would get REALLY excited to see a model for some of the people from the German part of the crusade (specifically Emperor Frederick I, Duke Frederick VI of Swabia...who was Frederick's son and took command after his father died...and Duke Leopold V of Austria).
    Some exciting stuff in there.

I love me a good set of campaign rules. Is this in your opinion a great one?

I think the campaign rules look very good on read through. They are fairly light touch but detailed enough to keep you engaged. I certainly like some of the aspects like the influence at court elements :)
