Question: I was just told by someone that my ground strokes (drives) have too much backswing. I’ve been playing for a year and a half, recently won gold in a 4.0 men’s doubles tournament (I’d say I’m closer to 4.0 to 4.5 most days), and have never heard this before. Now I’m questioning my stroke, however, when I look at your video, I would say we have very similar backswings when driving the ball. I probably have less of a backswing than your partner in the video. Anyhow, interested in your “take”, realizing you can’t see my swing.
Both of these guys have ridiculous large backswings. The backswing should be short with most of it achieved simply by turning (and coiling) your body not by taking a huge backswing and then arming the FH like the guy in the pink shoes.
@@frankfurter7260why does your backswing matter for a drive? As long as you’re able to make contact then your backswing doesn’t really matter, it’s more of a preferential thing.
I’m not sure I agree with this. The drive one uses for doubles play is different than a full court singles style ground stroke. Reason being that the singles ground stroke will clear the net much higher to get deep In the court while a drive in doubles needs to land much more shallow/cross closer to the net. It’s kind of a different shot. I do agree that just drilling balls at someone at the non volley isn’t great either. Guy at NVZ needs to let some balls go no matter what. (Say every 5th ball)
Great tip. Thanks.
Thank you for posting this helpful video
So helpful!
which grisp do you use for your drive?

Great idea!
If only you have a good drilling partner!
Or a machine. 😊

Right. For doubles use an eastern grip. For singles or when you have a soft ball in doubles, use a continental grip and rip it.
