Being grateful for the good things we have is a great lesson and a good reminder to people. It’s refreshing to hear someone on TH-cam not making out that their life is perfect and talking about their experiences of life as a whole. I hope you are still doing adventures and naps when you are in your 40’s and looking back at what you learned in your 30’s. I think people enjoy your videos because you come across as a real person. Other TH-camrs who don’t mention their crappy days and only post the good stuff can actually have a real negative effect on some peoples mental health whereas your videos have a positive effect. Thank you, I enjoyed the video, it is good to hear real thoughts 40 years ago I was approaching my 29th birthday. It was playing tricks with my mind, making me worry about my life and " achievements". 40 years later I can tell you it is all tosh. Of my class at school a third are already dead, some didn't make it to their 30s. The best you can do is love and be true to yourself. Surround yourself with those who love you and return their love. The nay sayers have no power over you, ignore them. This isn't a rehearsal, live the life you want and above all else enjoy it. By the way I found my 30s to be a lot of fun, much more fun than late 60s ( though they aren't too bad, just the body is struggling)
30s are scary on the approach but SO much better when you get there. They are the years you can practice some of the resilience you necessarily had to build up in your 20s and enjoy a little stability even through rough waters. You are right, there are waves a comin', but you will be SO much better prepared to ride them when they do. I have gone from being people pleaser to being "selectively direct when necessary", and it is SO empowering. Remember, there will always be assholes. You don't have to waste your energy on them. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us Alanna. Enjoy being YOU!

Happy Birthday! I feel like feeling old depends who you have around you. When I was 27 I was told that I was old by someone that was 22 and we’re not very many years apart, but it bugged me quite a lot until I’m talking to people in their fifties and suddenly I don’t feel old at all 😅 I felt old when I was 22 and I worked with like 18 year olds yet when I went on a tour I was surrounded by people in their late thirties and up who basically treated me like a kid who needed to be taken care of, I was pretty shocked but it made me reevaluate feeling “old” and I do think it just depends on a lot of who you hang out with, especially when your body isn’t making things worse. I imagine early thirties looks super young too people in their forties. I imagine fifty year olds look young to people in their late sixties and on it goes!

It is nice to see that someone makes the effort to learn about the customs etc.. of the country they have made their 2nd home. If people don't have something nice then please shut your mouths. Happy-Sometime-Around-Your-Birthday-Time! That was a really nice reflective 'chat' over breakfast (for me). It's great to hear how you have grown into being yourself and found your place in the world - but also an honest acknowledgement that it is still a work in progress, and that some days are better than others. At just about double your age, I would divide my life so far into 7 distinct phases (number 6 being mainly absolute pants, but with lots of opportunities for learning and growth even then), the current one being mainly (but not entirely of course) stress free and calm. Here's to sharing your journey for as long as you want to have us along!

Being in one's early 30s is a deceptive experience. You still feel young and you think that life is ahead of you; but without realising it you turn middle-aged quite quickly. By that I do not mean looking like middle-aged (although that is also inevitable), but becoming predictable and fearful of change. This transition is programmed into our genes, and one tends to realise it only when it is already over. Few people can avoid leaving youthfulness behind. But that is not something to be sad about, that is simply the way the world works. Happy Birthday, Alanna!
This has been one of your most important posts..to me anywho. I just returned from a holiday where I met lots of people who were much more successful than me professionally and I have spent the last few days feeling like a complete underachiever. But having watched your video it has occurred to me that your negative views on yourself are maybe more damaging than the ones from other people. Because you are an expert on you so are more qualified to have an opinion on you. But the thing is no one will stand up at your funeral and say what a fabulous car you had or comment on how big your house was. (For those that are bad at math that's 62) I'm happy that you've managed to weather the storms that come with a somewhat public life. You've learned that the notion of all people being good at heart is just a myth &, unfortunately, that the average person is not that nice at all. Almost everyone makes the same mistake, they look to the exterior, things outside yourself to aid you. Often, we never listens to ourselves, we don't trust ourselves, we look for someone to support a thought. Look yo yourself. I found turning off the lights, TV, phone, everything, and just "realise" for a while. You are already finding its better to be yourself. Things are there to convince yourself that you need them, religions, courses, practices... I've been deliberating over doing a channel. I'm 48 but friends are saying I write good comedy (it actually just comes out my mouth, then I write it down lol). I have plenty to say, quite opinionated. I also love Japan, sadly called a Nippophile, oh really it is ffs. This morning (I was drinking Coffee too), you inspired me to stop deliberating and do. Thank you, you are welcome here. In a strange way its your ancestoral home so you have every right.

That was a really nice reflective 'chat' over breakfast (for me).
It's great to hear how you have grown into being yourself and found your place in the world - but also an honest acknowledgement that it is still a work in progress, and that some days are better than others.
At just about double your age, I would divide my life so far into 7 distinct phases (number 6 being mainly absolute pants, but with lots of opportunities for learning and growth even then), the current one being mainly (but not entirely of course) stress free and calm.
Here's to sharing your journey for as long as you want to have us along!

The thing to remember about the harsh negative comments is, the problems they have are very much problems they have created for themselves, not problems you have created for them.
I love your videos Allana. Straight talking and no BS. You say it as you see it and that's what we love. Not everyone will agree and that's fine but for those 'eggy' moments it's worth taking a note and closing the box on them. I'm not a content creator but I do comment on content that I think is worth while, I keep my comments respectful and I might suggest things that might be worth a change but I never comment just to be negative. Being in one's early 30s is a deceptive experience. You still feel young and you think that life is ahead of you; but without realising it you turn middle-aged quite quickly. By that I do not mean looking like middle-aged (although that is also inevitable), but becoming predictable and fearful of change. This transition is programmed into our genes, and one tends to realise it only when it is already over. Few people can avoid leaving youthfulness behind. But that is not something to be sad about, that is simply the way the world works. Happy Birthday, Alanna!

This has been one of your most important posts..to me anywho. I just returned from a holiday where I met lots of people who were much more successful than me professionally and I have spent the last few days feeling like a complete underachiever. But having watched your video it has occurred to me that your negative views on yourself are maybe more damaging than the ones from other people. Because you are an expert on you so are more qualified to have an opinion on you. But the thing is no one will stand up at your funeral and say what a fabulous car you had or comment on how big your house was. 31? Happy Birthday! Don't sweat it. I'm soon to be doing the same, for the 2nd time! (For those that are bad at math that's 62) I'm happy that you've managed to weather the storms that come with a somewhat public life. In your role you've gotten to meet the worst of society, but hopefully some from the good side as well. You've learned that the notion of all people being good at heart is just a myth &, unfortunately, that the average person is not that nice at all. I'm so glad that you've learned to not internalize those hater's comments. I for one love to see that smiling happy Canadian face and I look forward to when your videos come out. Perhaps some of that is that you are a fellow North American living the Expat life, my life since I hit 35. I'm glad for you that you realized your dream of living abroad at a much younger age than I did. Keep enjoying it, keep the positivity flowing!

Happy birthday!❤ At 31 you should've realised life moves fast. I'm 48, a long backstory that I'll save you from hearing. Almost everyone makes the same mistake, they look to the exterior, things outside yourself to aid you. Often, we never listens to ourselves, we don't trust ourselves, we look for someone to support a thought. Look yo yourself. I found turning off the lights, TV, phone, everything, and just "realise" for a while. You are already finding its better to be yourself. Things are there to convince yourself that you need them, religions, courses, practices...
I've been deliberating over doing a channel. I'm 48 but friends are saying I write good comedy (it actually just comes out my mouth, then I write it down lol). I have plenty to say, quite opinionated. I also love Japan, sadly called a Nippophile, oh really it is ffs.
