I just bought 3 of Sam's albums on iTunes. He is a true musical genius. Amazing stuff. This song, upwards over the mountain and the trapeze swinger are my 3 favorites.
I never liked this song when it was new too much. Just didn't hit home back then. But as i age this feels closer and closer to home. One day ill die smiling. I already know that. Lived well enough in the time ive been given.
this is just otherworldly, thank you to sam beam for inspiring singer-songwriters around the world with such lyricism that hasn't been matched in a while.
I love when I go to one of Ricky's song links and it's a song I've already been a huge fan of like this one. Iron and Wine actually played at a small venue in my town recently...it was awesome.
I have to disagree with you here. I'm fairly new to Iron and Wine, but I think her vocals compliment him quite well... she emphasizes the melancholy aspect of his music without making it overly sorrowful. I don't think she sounds "weak", she's just another layer in the sound - a bit more in the background than Sam, which works for me.
I know people may disagree with me, but I have to throw it out there... He reminds me of Damien Rice and this song reminds me of Rice and Lisa hannigan... They're both very talented, great folk music :) I would love to see Damien Rice, Ray Lamongagne and Iron & Wine perform together along with Rachael Yamagata.
@Armand666Dead I know that he uses different keys for his songs all the time. But he's not using a capo here and playing normal chords for this song an yet I'm a little off when I play along with this video. And I'm tuned correctly.
The essence of the song isn't the chords, those are just put there to add harmony and reflect the mood of the lyrics. so know matter how simple the chords are, as long as they match the tune of the song and the lyrics have meaning it can make for an incredible song. In my opinion
He isn't in a 440 if my ears are not mistaken. He's in tune but not in 440. Correct me if I'm wrong. And for all haters. Relax I'm not bitching I was just trying to sing along this version with this video and noticed it.
@1234doawee I love ricky gervais but if I suggest better songs will that make me cooler than him? Here I go: Ocean- John Butler Trio Glasgow kiss- John Petrucci Goat- Eminem
Although this is way better than most, of not all pop music out there today, this version (the way he plays this live now) is not nearly as good and touching as the one on Our Endless Numbered Days.
i was hoping sarah would redeem herself from her awful pitch problems at bonaroo. I dunno, she's not terribly off but i dont think her weak harmonies compliment sam's pure and raw sound very well. Just a thought.
I know 10 years later you might be dead anyway she sounded really good at bonaroo I was there and she did it amazing and here is nice her harmonies aren't weak she's just doing a compliment to Sam's voice
The woman, Sarah, in this video is my Accounting teacher!
Wow. She's Sam's sister right?
I legitimately just sent this to my sister in hopes that she’d sing with me. She’s shy about it

to anyone who has lost a father like me this song is pure therapy
Best lyricist of this generation--hands down. Beam paints pictures, man.
I hope you're still doing well, and I absolutely agree
Cheers from 2022! Still loving Iron and Wine ♥️♥️

i will never forget the first time i heard this song
I fucking love this version a lot! It amazes me what some people can do with a guitar and there voice.
this is just otherworldly, thank you to sam beam for inspiring singer-songwriters around the world with such lyricism that hasn't been matched in a while.
I've loved this song for years and I always will

thanks for the response. i actually know how to play it with strumming. i wanted to pick, and there are slight chord changes and progressions.

@mccarrd4 he posted this song on his blog so most of the recent views to this video are his fans.
Do we need um?

I want to spend the rest of my natural existence nestled in his beard.
@datngatrel
Ok try this: ''get cape wear cape fly- i spy.''
Alan Moore meets Jack Johnson
Auntie Nora 'likes this'
he aint too bad at all.
@ItsameAlex
I just realised he sent us here coz its an atheist song. Another good atheist song is ''Dear God'' by ''XTC''.
He sent us here because it's a GOOD song. Atheist? I just see it as a touching vignette on death, life and...graveyards.
Stop the violence!!
this version is too fast... for me
thumbs up if ricky gervais brought you here!
@1234doawee
I love ricky gervais but if I suggest better songs will that make me cooler than him?
Here I go:
Ocean- John Butler Trio
Glasgow kiss- John Petrucci
Goat- Eminem
Had a pet magpie called Maggie
i want to touch the beard!!
Ha.

I prefer it, that guitar is mesmerising. It feels much more melodic and rhythmic here I feel. Meh maybe just me
It really does sound fun to play. I wish I could play it :(

THUMBS UP IF SATAN BROUGHT YOU HERE !!
