    Funniest thing is that I found out how to tie a bow knot correctly through this video. I've been folding both sides into loops, which is redundant, since you get the second loop by pulling it half way through the knot. I feel so stupid!
    Also, I had no idea there's a "comfortable" way of tying a knot. For me both ways are the same. I have to do it in my head - first time left over right, second time right over left... But it's worth the effort, shoe knots are a lot neater! Thanks!

    Apparently this is why it took me so long to learn to tie my shoes. I have 2 left handed parents, and neither one could teach my to tie. But I figured this method out on my own, due to my ambidextrous nature. It wasn't until your video that I already tie this way!
    It is also nice to see I'm not alone dealing with frizzy hair and humidity!

    Years ago, girl scouts taught me a jingle for square knots:
    Right over left
    Left over right
    Makes a knot neat, tidy, and tight!

    Ever since I learned about the "magic knot" I do it on all things that have laces, and my sneakers haven't come undone in 2 years, and it only did then because I unlaced them to wash them :P Basically what you do is the same reef knot bow you've shown, except when you're making the bow and bringing one end through the loop, don't pull it taut. Bring it through the loop AGAIN, and THEN tighten it, and it'll never come loose unless you want it to.

    Realised while watching this video that I already do it that way. But very helpful to actually be aware of it, so if I do it the wrong way and my corset comes loose I'll know why. :)

    A basic newbie question. I'm seasoning my first corset; wearing it under my clothes at work. I expect to wear corsets under my clothes most all the time. What do I do with the laces to keep them from hanging down and becoming visible over skirts and pants, or prevent them from hanging down when using the toilet?

    As a knot tyer, you have two ends to a line, the fixed end known as the standing end (in this case, the corset) and the other end, the running end. If you don't pull the running end through completely, but only part-way, you have a loop which can be pulled back out of the knot, undoing it, "slipped". This is what a bow knot is, a square/reef knot, where both ends are slipped.
    You can complicate it further, building a stacked knot, left-over-right, right-over-left, left-over-right, continuing until you run out of line. In her example, the end of the running ens finishes up with the loop of the opposite running end, so she treats the lot as her left and right.

    I have a long line corset, with a similar length as the one you are wearing in this video. How do you button up your jeans after using the restroom?? I tend to wear a shorter corset for this issue, but love the look of the long line. Any tips?

    • @LucysCorsetry
      @LucysCorsetry  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Beth Pavolini I have a pretty long torso, so I've been able to sort of lean backwards to lengthen the front of my torso and be able to button up my jeans, then shove the waistband under the corset. It's not the most elegant or ideal, but it works for me.

    QUESTIONNNNN!!!! ok, how do you deal with upper "fat" poking out of the top of the corset? like if its obvious thru your clothes and what not.

    For the lower knot, I use the 'fisherman's knot'. Looks mort neat than any other knot and never comes loose. I think 'two knotty boys' has a video of it on youtube.

    With the bow, if the tie is long enough to wrap around your waist, could you do that and put the bow at the front? Or would that just cause more wear on the corset?

    • @LucysCorsetry
      @LucysCorsetry  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you tie off in the back so that most of the tension stays in the back, you can then take the slack laces and tie them loosely around the front. I would recommend tying the laces around your waist tightly because if the fashion fabric is for instance a thinner satin or dupioni silk, the friction from the tight laces can damage the fabric.

    Another benefit of the square knot or box knot is that they're easier to get loose. Same way the Chinese finger trap work pulling makes it tighter while pushing losens. Perfect for tightlacing 😀

    I usually try to wear long-line bras, sports bras, or shelf bras that sit below the top edge of my corsets. The ones that work best for me have no underwire and a wide elastic band around the bottom.

    I've always tied the first knot, then made two loops and tied them in a knot :/ i know its the lazy way but whenever I tie a "propper" bow everyone tells me its wrong! and its always worked well for me :)

  • @samanthajohnson56
    @samanthajohnson56 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey any tips on tying your final bow For some reason I can't seem to get it nice and tight there to stay even if I tie it in the back so I have to tie in the front to keep it even and paralell

    • @LucysCorsetry
      @LucysCorsetry  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Samantha Johnson I gave a lot of instruction in the last 3 minutes of this video. Honestly there gets to be a point where you just need to practice doing it yourself in the back. Don't expect it to be perfect the first couple of times, but it will get easier. Tying your corset in the front can cause abrasion damage to the outer fabric layer of your corset. It doesn't matter that much if you don't care what it looks like, but just letting you know.

    I use either a slip knot with my laces or I use a keyring between my first single tie and the second single tie. (WhT I mean by a single tie is the first of the ties when tying you shoo

      @LucysCorsetry  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +zoronqueen Have you tried a different way of threading your corset? The inverted bunny ears method works really well for me. Here's how to relace your corset: th-cam.com/video/owKwmTTfRJE/w-d-xo.html

    And fuzzy temples? I feel ya. My hair does some pretty weird things.. Er'ryday. :( I get one where the sides flip out and the back goes flat (like an airplane). Or the sides curl perfectly, and the back just.. flattens. -.- Asdfghjkl boooo.

    why is there that extra tail string at the bottom? D:

    • @LucysCorsetry
      @LucysCorsetry  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is only one length of lace threaded through the whole corset - it loops up towards the top of the corset and back down again, so to complete the loop, you need to tie a knot at the bottom of the corset. In the case of paracord, you can melt the ends together but don't try this on natural fibers like cotton because it will just burn/ char. See my video here on lacing your corset properly: Lacing your Corset "bunny ears" style
