- Welcome to Ben Collins Gaming - my new sub-channel where I’ll be focusing on my journey into the incredible world of e-motorsports.
I’ve started with a bang for my first video, heading over to my friend @MatArmstrongbmx's house to check out his sim rigs. As you’d probably expect with Mat, he hasn’t done things by halves with his setup. We jump into an online race on Assetto Corsa Competizione, where I face a complete baptism of fire against Mat and some talented online racers.

That happens all the time in racing games, even arcade games. In Test Drive Solar Crown i was in ranked against a BMW z4 gt racer. I can imagine in real sims there's a ton of real drivers

@@BenCollinsDrivesAssetto corsa 1 has lots of mods as in tracks, cars and enviromental mods, which u can’t get in ACC.

This has made my day. A childhood hero plus the one of the sims I spend way too much time in. Your going to love it. The fact you jumped straight out, took one breath to straighten the motion wobbles, then instantly went hunting for Matts best time tells it all 😀

Great video Ben, instant like and subscribe from me. Quite a few sim racers are finding seats in real race cars as you know, but you going the other way with it is fascinating, with all your knowledge and insight from wrestling the real things. I look forward to following your journey!

Fantastic fun video mate! Some filthy driving going on there 😄 If you fancy a different challenge some time... Check out LA Canyons on the original Assetto Corsa. Miles of canyon roads featured on 'The Smoking Tire' videos. Careful though, there are no run-offs or gravel traps, if you go off you're 500ft down a cliff (might hurt in those rigs)!

Ben, seeing you used that sequential shifter make me want to see a early 2000s gt1 race between you, mat and Jimmy, would be an event for sure
Awesome! I remember I was pretty good on Gran Turismo 4 on PS3 (played GT1, GT2, GT3 a lot on PSX, PS2)... but it was with a controller... Then a friend got a chair, wheel, pedals (this was in like 2005'ish so no moving chairs... just a force feedback wheel)... And I tried it, and I just had to start over all again... knew the tracks and cars pretty well... but turning with a controller even though analogue is pretty fast with a thumb/finger from full left to full right with a force feedback wheel it takes forever so... I had to drive in a total different way. So it sort of went from "Arcade" fun to actually have to brake before the corner and do minimal corrections (with the stick you could correct much faster with a bad brake, or too much speed)...
Anyway... it took sometime to get used to (I had a force feedback wheel before that I played with on the PC though, so I was familiar with it) and relearn how to drive in GT4...
Would love a setup like this...

Me and my step daughter would love to have a go on your sim, she’s a race photographer and really wants to get in to grass racing, this would give her a massive insight into fast cars, she drives a Mazda 2 🤣🤣
a sim race would seem the most economical way considering Armstrongs recent crash records. Instead of Armstrong he could call him self Heavyfoot.

Really surprising setting of the motion system. Usually they do the opposite of what we are seeing in this video under braking and acceleration

Ben, you should try out a sim rig but with a VR headset on. I'd love to hear your feedback on that. These sim rigs look really good but are ruined by flat screens
Once Ben gets more in to it these ex button pushers who now have SIM rigs from I'll gotten gains from boring people on TH-cam won't stand a chance. Ben Collins is the real deal.

Barcelona is one of my favourite tracks, makes me happy to know that I'm faster than Mat and the Stig on here, I recently got a 1:46.9 in the McLaren 😎 I'm sure I wouldn't stand a chance in a real car though 🤣

Mat definitely needs some teaching when it comes to proper racing on a track. He’s definitely got some ability but he has no fear, so pushes it beyond the limits. I think because of the mentality he has had to have to perform the tricks on a bmx there is an inability to let off. I think if you can teach him to control his red mist then he could do really well. If he can learn the cars boundaries and stick to them, he will see his driving improve tenfold. A few solid lessons with yourself will make him a really good driver both on and off the track👍🇬🇧
Driving a car around an airport is not "proper racing on a track" and they're using road cars IRL - road cars have shit brakes, shit suspension, shit tyres and they're set up shit.

I find Asseto Corsa to be unrealistic and hard to control. I'm a driver for a living and I don't think it's realistic or accurate.
You should try it in V.R. though. Game changer 👍
the stig just had a sim racing rig delivered today.
Finally a proper motion rig where everything moves including the monitors, just need to disable in-game head motion.

Moving monitors doesn’t make sense .. moving monitors is more or less mimicking the sky and surrounding area in real life moving

I always imagine investing in one of these rigs to get rid of that itch always wanting to buy another car.
This video with THE STIG, proves that sims still have a way to go. As a professional Chauffeur for over 25 years, driving presidents, prime ministers and all the top brass, and a Rally instructor for years, i dream of this set up at home. But it's not real enough yet. I love the collaboration with Matt and Ben though. Who'd have thought??

Matt is a much faster driver than I previously thought. The reasonably priced car video proves that.
Being used only to real driving, you do rely much more on the G force feelings, which can be very strange getting in the sim.
Not sure how u figure that. He jumped in a sim and car that he had never driven with literally 0 practice and in a rig that wasn’t remotely properly setup. The wheel rotation wasn’t even correct. He was never going to be competitive in this scenario. Ask the reigning f1 world champion if the sims are “real” enough

@@egyptology22 Absolutely Ben is very skilled/experienced. That is irrelevant to the quality or realism of the sim. The man jumped into a sim/car that he had never driven a single lap with 0 practice in a rig that wasn’t setup correctly at all. He was setup for failure and was never going to do well. This doesn’t reflect on the accuracy of the sim at all.
