The Namdhari movement was founded by satguru Balak Singh(1797-1862), who did not believe in any religious ritual other than the repetition of God’s name (or nam, for which reason members of the sect are called Namdharis). His successor, satguru Ram Singh (1816-1885), introduced the sect’s distinctive style of wearing the turban bound straight across the forehead rather than at an angle, of dressing only in clothing made from white handwoven cloth, and of frenzied chanting of hymns culminating in shrieks (kuks; hence the name Kuka). Under satguru Ram Singh’s leadership, the Namdharis sought a resurgence of Sikh rule in the Punjab. In January 1872, British police apprehended and executed by cannon about 66 Namdhari at Malerkotla. Ram Singh was exiled to Rangoon, Burma afterwards. The Namdharis do, however, consider themselves as Sikhs. Namdharis believe that Guru Gobind Singh went into seclusion after surviving the attempt on his life and passed the Guruship on to other human Gurus to this day. The Namdharis were founded by their Guru-Balak Singh (1797-1862) in north-west Panjab. They were organized into a movement by Satguru Ram Singh of Bhaini who fell under the influence of Guru Balak Singh while serving in the Khalsa as a Risaldari of Kanvar Nau Nihal Singh. They are also known as Kookas, Kukas, kooke, kooka or kookeh 'criers', for their shrieks (kuks) given in ecstatic meditative trance. The men are distinguished by their white, "round" turbans with their ears fully exposed. The more orthodox Kukas also wear attire which included very tight pants and long kurtas. Gurbani defines what a “Sikh” is, and the Namdharis do not fit that definition. You can’t just do whatever you want and call yourself a Sikh, there are guidelines one must follow.

I am from mainstream Sikh family and have never been comfortable about Guru Gobind Singh Ji saying SGGSJi is the final guru, as there is no final in when it comes to guru or god. For me all the various Sikh sects have some of the truthful story but not all of it.

There is no mentioning of Adi Granth being the Final Sikh Guru and it's as debatable as the concept of continuing with the Dehdari Gurus.However it seems quite unlikely that the old practice of having a Dehdaari Guru was put to an end all of a sudden that too at time when Sikhs needed the Guru the most...

A couple of Fudus should not talk about things they have no knowledge about. To say that the Namdharis have no contribution to the Indian freedom movement shows this panel's complete lack of knowledge. The whole Namdhari movement was born to help India free itself from colonial rule! In fact this movement remained the most sustained movement for independence until freedom in 1947. All the Namdhari gurus were either exiled from Punjab or were kept under strict house arrest to prevent their activities. Secondly, the Kuka did not get their name because they used to scream as this person says. KuKas got their name because they were the first to cry for freedom (KOOK). Unfortunately the Brits tried to destroy all traces of the Kukas and went as far as killing the Namdharis indiscriminately. The worse episode happened at Malarkotla where the British blew 80 Namdhari sikhs with cannons!!! The killing of Namdharis was nothing short of genocide. Like the colonizers who tried to extinguish all traces of Namdhari scrifices for India, Fudus like these two are doing the same thing!

Namdhari is an Indian religious group. They consider themselves a sect of Sikhism, but insist that the line of Sikh Gurus did not end with Guru Gobind Singh, but continued through the Namdhari leaders.
Namdhari, also called Kuka, is an austere sect within Sikhism, a religion of India. The Namdhari movement was founded by satguru Balak Singh(1797-1862), who did not believe in any religious ritual other than the repetition of God’s name (or nam, for which reason members of the sect are called Namdharis). His successor, satguru Ram Singh (1816-1885), introduced the sect’s distinctive style of wearing the turban bound straight across the forehead rather than at an angle, of dressing only in clothing made from white handwoven cloth, and of frenzied chanting of hymns culminating in shrieks (kuks; hence the name Kuka). Under satguru Ram Singh’s leadership, the Namdharis sought a resurgence of Sikh rule in the Punjab. In January 1872, British police apprehended and executed by cannon about 66 Namdhari at Malerkotla. Ram Singh was exiled to Rangoon, Burma afterwards.
The Namdharis do, however, consider themselves as Sikhs.
Namdharis believe that Guru Gobind Singh went into seclusion after surviving the attempt on his life and passed the Guruship on to other human Gurus to this day.
The Namdharis were founded by their Guru-Balak Singh (1797-1862) in north-west Panjab.
They were organized into a movement by Satguru Ram Singh of Bhaini who fell under the influence of Guru Balak Singh while serving in the Khalsa as a Risaldari of Kanvar Nau Nihal Singh.
They are also known as Kookas, Kukas, kooke, kooka or kookeh 'criers', for their shrieks (kuks) given in ecstatic meditative trance.
The men are distinguished by their white, "round" turbans with their ears fully exposed.
The more orthodox Kukas also wear attire which included very tight pants and long kurtas.
They have many non-Sikh traditions like the worshiping of fire (havan), which is more akin to Hinduism than Sikhism

I am from mainstream Sikh family and have never been comfortable about Guru Gobind Singh Ji saying SGGSJi is the final guru, as there is no final in when it comes to guru or god. For me all the various Sikh sects have some of the truthful story but not all of it.

"Ram" should be replaced with "Akal Purakh" in the new revised editions of the Guru Granth. "Ram" became a synonym for God only after the avatar of Ram Chandra of Ayodhya.

A couple of Fudus should not talk about things they have no knowledge about. To say that the Namdharis have no contribution to the Indian freedom movement shows this panel's complete lack of knowledge. The whole Namdhari movement was born to help India free itself from colonial rule! In fact this movement remained the most sustained movement for independence until freedom in 1947. All the Namdhari gurus were either exiled from Punjab or were kept under strict house arrest to prevent their activities. Secondly, the Kuka did not get their name because they used to scream as this person says. KuKas got their name because they were the first to cry for freedom (KOOK). Unfortunately the Brits tried to destroy all traces of the Kukas and went as far as killing the Namdharis indiscriminately. The worse episode happened at Malarkotla where the British blew 80 Namdhari sikhs with cannons!!! The killing of Namdharis was nothing short of genocide. Like the colonizers who tried to extinguish all traces of Namdhari scrifices for India, Fudus like these two are doing the same thing!
