    Enjoyed your thoughts on ROOTS. I've read it three times (the last time being about 10 years ago) and hearing you talk about it makes me want to read it again. Whether Kunta Kinte is a real ancestor of Alex Haley or not, it IS definitely an amazing book/saga.

    Thanks for your videos! I've been reading picture books this week, but in April I barely read anything. I enjoyed Love is a Revolution last year--I've liked every Renee Watson book that I've read. Also, I work at a library, and your recs are helpful in informing what I recommend when I'm asked for book recommendations.

    I love all the kids books! My nephew just turned 5 and my niece is 1. I want to read with them like my mom read with me when I was little. ❤
    I really like your perspective on Roots. My mom watched the TV series when it first came out. I may check out the book.

    Thank you so much for your review of Roots. I don't know if I'll ever get around to reading it but I've definitely come away from this video with a greater understanding and appreciation of the story.
    April was a good reading month - among other things, I read A Brief History of Earth, the Lion in the Living Room (NF about cats), the Dangers of Smoking in Bed (excellent), High Times in the Low Parliament, and some Critical Role comics!
    Edit: I LOVE your earrings!

    In prose, the standouts were The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai and Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell. In manga, the standout was Quality Assurance in Another World vol 6 by Masamichi Sato.
    I also re-read several books by Katherine Addison and Meagan Whalen Turner. I was listening to Turner's older audio editions but have unfortunately reached the point in the series where the older editions stop, leaving only the new edition with the terrible narrator.

    Im just starting your video now! Also; on the topic of ‘Roots’ have you read the books that Alex Haley (allegedly) plagiarized ?
    “The African” by Harold Courlander
    “Jubilee” by Margaret Walker
    I am currently reading ‘Roots’ right now & i wanna read the other books that is said that Alex Haley plagiarized for his.

    • @BookishRealm
      @BookishRealm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I heard that the Jubilee accusation was proved to not be true but I am interested in reading The African since a major part of the narrative associated with Kunta Kinte was lifted from that book.

      I haven’t read Roots (yet) but I have read jubilee and I highly recommend regardless! Her writing is incredible

      @@Taylor16255 Jubilee is written by the first black woman to earn her PhD! Margaret Walker is her name. we gotta put some respect on her name.
