I always thought it was done on a film set not an a actual railway station. Nice to see it thanks.

Many thanks for the museum tour 👍. A great uncle of mine used to work on the railway there in the 19th century. He subsequently died in a rail accident in 1895, aged 37. I've not been to Carnforth since the 80s when we used to take the kids to Steamtown there.

So much of the population used to work on the railways, including many if Jenny's ancestors.

Lovely video. I appreciate the B&W for atmosphere and nostalgic nod to the film on the platform and in the cafeteria but I wish you had of reverted back to colour for the museum footage. 😊

Thanks. I thought about that, but most of the photos were in B&W anyway. I did go back to colour for the colour film.

Heysham to Belfast wo, that sure does bring back some memories of the 60s. It was really to main ferry travel at the time, unless flight was affordable. Just once by plane the rest to and from ferry from Heysham. Rather cold sitting on the deck as a child, cars were loaded by means of crane and sling. Not sure as to just why the ferry service stopped. Although long it was enjoyable.

I couldn't imagine them craning the motorhome on. Might be a bit worried by that. 😯

The British pound has lost 98% its value since 1945
    Updated: December 13, 2022
£100 in 1945 is equivalent in purchasing power to about £5,521.95 today, an increase of £5,421.95 over 78 years. The pound had an average inflation rate of 5.28% per year between 1945 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 5,421.95%.

So, it wasn't a huge amount he was paid even back then?

@@BobEarnshawMoHo however … If you could afford to buy a home after the war, it was likely to be a brand new one. The average cost of a new house was £1,891 (around £69,042 in today’s money[1]) and the average salary was £10 a week (roughly £365[2]), so buying a property was no mean feat, even then.
So not a bad wage but nothing like the movie stars of today

Loved this. Cheered me up for a few minutes as I sir here suffering ‘Man Flu’. I believe the big famous clock is away being refurbished at the moment? Is it just looking back with romantic memories or was life better back then? …….simpler. Anyway, great films listed. The Sound Barrier is amazing. If your reading this and not seen it then you must. Those pioneers of aviation were so brave.

I don't think I have watched the sound barrier, must catch it.

The clock refurbish is complete, being in private ownership it sits in the owners garage I believe and is in a monitory dispute, looks like it won't be returned.

A lot of padding and I was disappointed that the film didn't cover the café on the station, where Andrew is very informative. Thanks for doing it, anyway.

Unfortunately the cafe was full with families and kids so I couldn't film there, we waited an hour for food as it was just after covid. We had filmed the cafe in a previous video around 7 mins - th-cam.com/video/ExpWX-TdoCM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZFecoYYfpkhc0uif

@@BobEarnshawMoHo I didn't realise you'd already covered it. This video came up on my suggested playlist, and as I'd already done a film myself on Carnforth I was curious to see it.
