No, not the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV---the BBC do not have commercial advertisements---and, yes I remember these from when they first aired. Also, be on the look out for a UK PIZZA HUT ad in Klingon.
It appears to date back to late 80s makes sense with TNG sets and ST5 uniforms. National Power and Power Gen were companies formed when the National Grid/CGB/regional electric boards was privatised. Likely adverts at the time to sell shares.
There was an advert for the Nat West Bank thst featured a starship called "USS Business Enterprise": it went out before ST:TNG aired in Britain; at the end of the ad the ship's nacelle flashed and she disappeared in the distance in a flash of light like Picard's Enterprise .
TNG's sets were built out of the original motion picture sets (which themselves were upgraded from Phase II's sets), so when TNG premiered, they had to share many of the sets for the subsequent films.
BBC could have done a tv licence ad lol Scotty: " here cap'n were flying over British waters won't be able to watch the tv like if we doon have a licence like for de telly "
It also depends on the budget of the entity paying for the ad. If you want a Star Trek ad and the producers agree to it, you can have whatever you want....if you can pay for it. In those days, there was only TV, radio and print, so companies sunk A LOT of money into TV ads.
I remember this well. I used to watch the TV hoping it was going to be shown with my video recorder on standby hoping to get to record it. What a brilliant advert. (But not the BBC). That is the boring channel that rinses people of their money.
The BBC is a non-commercial broadcasting organisation. Their television and radio programming output is funded by the public through ‘the licence fee’. ITV and Channel Four are commercial channels and were so by the time of this ST advert. A few years later the U.K. had Channel 5.
It's fun hearing Captain Kirk say "...not a brolly, you wally!"
What’s a Wally?

@@MrDenislynchan idiot but usually more of a likable one.
I just noticed that Scotty's engine room is from the Enterprise D...😅
They used the enterprise D engineering room on the Undiscovered Country as well 🖖🏾
Fun fact: the engine room of the TNG is actually the same set that used in all TMP movies, just redressed
@@BarthBennett-qv5ky Most sets there are from the D, they also used 10-Forward as the bureau of the president.
Pretty sure Scotty is wearing the same uniform he wore in the episode “Relics” as well.

The BBC does carry adverts on its international channels as part of BBC World, America, Nordic etc
@@CM73878 they might do, but not for shares In the privitsation of a uk energy company in the late 1980s.....
@@CM73878 - But not for a solely British company that operates nowhere else. In a British accent.
1. Not sure if BBC World existed back then.
2. Not sure a British powee company would be advertised outside the UK

@@robertgould1345 This film is from 1989 and BBC World Service tv started in 1991 so technically that’s right
I remember the ads not BBC commercial channels only
Lmao this better than any episode of Discovery and I mean that 💯
I thought it was the ending of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier-initially..
Likewise!
Yep, same here.
Love the paper airplane
YEAH! fantastic👍 Always nice to see the original cast. & doing a parody of their characters.
I saw this when young 😂 it was great
I was waiting to hear Scotty to say, "Now that's Power" like he did in those Radio Shack power zone commercials.

Looks like future ReviewBrah
0:11 a paper airplane?
It's in the UK so it would be a paper aeroplane.
I am old I remember this on tv
The Star Trek / Hi-de-Hi! crossover we never knew we wanted.
Captain Kirk would go through every one of those Yellowcoats if he went to Maplins!
If Star Trek was based at Butlins, all the staff would end up dead.
@@con_doorman Yellow coats vs Red shirts
So, technically...Simon Cadell was in Star Trek.
@@DarthPerkinspity they didn't have Gladys on the ship's intercom.
😂😂great one

Got this on VT from when it aired during the commercial breaks… brilliant
these actors very good at convincing you of the party they play. unlike modern actors who convince you the part they are playing is them.
lol iv got this comeing out on my channel too lol
❤dan❤
star trek is best
Was an advert for buying shares in State-owned Electric companies before they go into private ownership

I remember this ad but I couldn't remember what it was advertising!🖖
God i remember this fro years back here in Britain (:
Very cool!
They shot these in LA during undiscovered country.
This probably cost a pretty penny for National Power at the time.
I remember it well and the British gas one about if you see sid tell him
Jeffrey Fairbrother (Simon Cadell) Makes an appearance as well! Haha!

And of course the Random Red Shirts Die.

How does this commercial have better production values then a standard episode of the actual show?
this is well after the show ended. and budget was limited on opurpose for trek by abc ,,simlar to black predominant shows of the time. like jefforsons
It was filmed on TNG sets about 1989, a long time after the original series.
