I wish I could send a picture here! My father built a Santa’s Castle when we were young, that he refined and added to every year. It was two stories, completely light, and even had a chapel with “stained glass” windows and a crèche!
One year my sister and I cross-stitched tiny samplers, on handkerchief linen, using regular sewing thread, and he drilled out two large wooden buttons to use as frames! The next year I took three baby dolls that are usually used for decorating baby shower cakes (between 1/2 and 3/4 inch), dressed them in tiny lace dresses and bonnets, and origami-ed some gift boxes, including tissue paper, for them! Thanks for the memories! ❤

I think It is awesome! It's going to give you that mental break from crochet 24/7. Personally, I don't want to see you get burnt out. You do so much for all of us every day. It is wonderful that you are doing something for you.

We all love crochet, but it doesn’t have to be our only hobby. 8 years ago, I was making my granddaughter Barbie food, and accessories with polymer clay. I have no doubt that you’re going to enjoy miniatures, and I look forward to hearing about your adventure!!

I was just thinking it could be fun to make yarn bowls out of polymer clay and I'm thinking, okay, 12:1, so a 6" bowl is going to be a 1/2". Hmmm... I don't need another rabbit hole, but, but...I don't need another rabbit hole... guess I'll just have to live vicariously through Mikey. A friend used to make mouse houses and they were always so cool. This was back in the 70s and 80s.

If there is one thing I love more than yarn, it’s miniatures! I’ve been obsessed with them from a very young age. If you ever are in St. Louis, Missouri, you must go see the miniatures museum! It is two floors jam packed with amazing work!! It is all volunteer run and all pieces in the museum are donated. Amazing place!

😊❤EVERYONE needs to have a hobby. My dad built a lovely dollhouse for my niece and my mom sewed, knitted and crocheted clothing for the dolls, tablecloths and napkins for the dining table, table , curtains for windows. It was magical. Wishing you success on your journey

As a child I was totally fascinated by this miniature town, train, scenery...etc, that was only displayed during Christmas times in a huge display window of a shop in our small town... everything was just so perfect! The buildings, bridges, trees, the hills, flowers and of course the train... I was mesmerized!!
Not 100% sure exactly what your new hobby entails, I searched and what I saw took me right back to being that little girl with her nose pressed on the window, totally enchanted by someone's MINIATURE making skills!
May you enjoy ever step of your journey in miniature making!!

FUN! This is wonderful, Mikey! Speaking for many of us who are also brand new to this miniatures world, it will be fascinating to live vicariously through you, watching you discovering, learning, and creating. Please make lots of mistakes so we can learn without having to screw up on our own. 😊 I can’t wait to see where this goes. Thank you for being so open and bringing us on this brand new journey with you. Who cares if it’s not crochet? A huge part of why many of us watch your work is because you know your shit DOES stink and you remind us how normal it is to not be perfect - and that it’s actually preferable. We adore our “Crochet Sensei Mikey”, but I know I’m not alone in being excited to see a side of our sensei that isn’t “all crochet, all the time”.

I couldn't imagine only doing one hobby. I have a digital pattern shop on etsy, I have an actual booth in a mall for my wreaths, gnomes, signs, crochet blankets, and amigurumi, along with anything else I want to try to make. If I had room, I'd have a huge train layout.
So, you do you and expand your hobby horizon!
I look forward to watching your journey and learning new things.

    Hi Mikey,
I had never done anything miniature until I made several 1:12 scale furniture pieces for my 4 year old granddaughter per her request. It was such a joyous time for me. My hubby said, ‘you are enjoying this way more than I think our granddaughter will. It was so much freaking fun! That wasn’t true, thank goodness; she loves them so very much! You will absolutely LOVE your new hobby! Yay for you!!

Hi, Mikey. One of the things my grandmother, a very crafty person, made was scenes inside actual eggshells. Another was larger scenes inside pastel "eggshells" made of sugar. These became cherished keepsakes. I hope you really enjoy your new hobby.

Oh! When I was 12, I was Friends with a woman in the apts. Outside the dock where we lived on our sailboat, and before one Easter she made a bunch of the sugar eggshells! I was fascinated. The opening on one side, like peaking in through a window to another, smaller world. The edge of the opening decorated with cake frosting by her cake decorating kit. She did them for a church. Beautiful! I had to go buy Andy, it ignited my sweet tooth lol. Oh Im 62 next month for context.

This sounds really neat! I can't wait to see what you make. When my daughter was younger, we made Monster High Doll furniture from recycled materials and I think I had more fun than she did! I started out with needle point(age 8), went to loom knitting, cross stitch, next culinary school, pastry school -cake decorating, now I'm addicted to yarn and I crochet. It's all related, creativity is all encompassing. Embrace it, go with the flow.

Oooh ❤❤❤ I built little gazebos, scenes, and re-structured a normal wooden doll house kit into a English cottage. Building the furniture, learning how to use very thin fabrics and duplicating all the tiny things was so much fun.
We let it go finally when we moved across country.
But the years spent on that was so delightful.
You will have a great adventure.

Miniatures have always been a fascination of mine. I used to dabble working with ceramic "greenwear" turning it into beautiful (or fun!) fired ceramic pieces. I did an entire 1-inch tall bunny family Easter party. Probably 16 tiny pieces. Loved that set but lost it to a house fire.
You may rekindle my creative flame for mini things again. This will be a fun journey. Can't wait to see what you make!🎉😊

Greenware...um yes! I delved into that when my kids were young. Really enjoyed it then moved too far from a store and kiln. And with my being interested in everything, maybe ADHD, and house, yard and 3 kids when I got single again even less time but my daughter in particular mentions it whenever she sees or hears about greenware. She really loves it. I've been limited in the past several years of my 62, even so I couldn't have just one hobby. If I did it would be crochet, but I've still got a couple of others. Enjoy!!

If you do one thing to the exclusion of everything else, you're not balanced. I wish you all the luck in the world in learning to make miniatures. I now have a bedroom, library (with an actual roll top desk), a 50s inspired Coca Cola kitchen, a craft room (inspired by other miniaturists here on YT) for some of the items I've added to it. I am currently about to finish a laundry room. My next room is a game room. My only problem is, where do I put all these creations. I can spend hours with these miniatures, helps release my stress.

I'm anxious to see what you do. You might even use the paper you remove from the dioramas to stack, glue, cut, and use wood hardener on to build some of your items. Several years ago, I went to a Christmas craft fair and one of the vendors had replica miniatures of children's including some from my childhood so I purchased some for my printer tray wallhanger. They'd even done inside pages. The detail you can obtain I know will be great from the eye you already have. Plus you have a great support system at home. Have fun with your new hobby.

Actually, I am not surprised about this exploration of miniatures. You've worked in "miniature" when you were designing for the car industry and also while you are designing your crochet wonders! I think this would be a great way to build even more inspiration in your life!! My mother and father-in-law have spent their time recreating their homeplace in miniature. Long story short, they sold that house and always regretted it. Sorta brings you back to the moments in life in miniatures! Can't wait to see what you come up with!!

My granddaughter insisted we go, I was reluctant. Was I way wrong. Yes it does have doll houses that are over 100 years old, but it’s so much more, the details are amazing. There was a Christmas village under a glass floor, The Adam’s Family mansion, Raggedy Ann & Andy, just to name a few.

Years ago my daughter & I sow a traveling Minitures Exhibit in a Museum. there was all kinds of settings represented. One was an entire room with incredible detail made completely of Fish Bones! Yes, Fish Bones! I shall look for the Brochure as I am sure we kept it & can send you any information if you are interested. In the meantime, you may be able to look it up, though I am not adept in such things, you may find some thing. I do so hope you find the deepest joy in this new!

Very interesting ideas. Keeping it crochet related,a craft room would be cool..I can imagine teeny tiny skeins of yarn on teeny tiny shelves, with maybe a teeny tiny project in the works using a teeny tiny hook. Oh, in a room with a teeny tiny fireplace.. and a cup of cocoa on a table. Making it a "winter" setting. Oh, then maybe making the "same scene" but in different seasons. Or, take it to a porch , at least you'll get "outside" a bit lol. And that can be seasonal too. I'm getting more excited for you as I ramble on . Best wishes to you as you explore your new endeavor:)

Very cool! I have always loved & been drawn to miniatures of all kinds!
I imagine you need a break once in awhile. Good grief you can love something & love doing it. But you can love more than one thing at a time!
Food is a great example of that. You might love bologna, but if you ate it everyday at every meal. It would be something you didn't even want to look at anymore.

Sounds really fun, I've always loved miniatures, the tinier the better. I remember on Pinterest seeing entire nativity scenes inside a walnut, I was like 🤯 Why is it SO pleasing? Hope you enjoy and share w/us.

Honestly, leaving the house is something i REALLY have to want to do for a particular reason, too. I think it's just because people have gotten to be so rotten, I don't want to interact with them more than I absolutely have to. :) This new adventure sounds wonderful!

I understand about the break from crochet. I "burned out" from singing. It is hard for me to do anymore and my voice has suffered for it, but sometimes you need to step back. You'll get the burn again but it helps to do something different now and then to feed the juices

Awesome, I look forward to seeing where you go on your miniature journey. I’ve always been drawn to miniatures, one side of my craft room is full of partially completed miniature projects, the other half with crochet projects 😂 Whatever you do, enjoy it! ❤
