Have you tried putting your beans in a pillow case and hitting the ground? It works wonderfully. You don't want to hit the ground too hard as you will end up with too much chaff, but after you do it for awhile you'll get the hang of it and it is way faster this way.

Bean machine: you want the one that has chains, or there of. We homemade ours. Took a bucket, drilled holes the size of the beans on one side, to ensure they fell out the bottom, used the lid as one side but with a cut out to be able to insert more beans. The center rod is a metal bar with light chains just long enough to reach the sides, fastened on with u-bolts. The rod is long enough so it can be attached to a drill or hand crank and sit over our gorilla cart. Simple and easy.

You might want to get a little “milking stool” to keep in your food storage area, basement?. So handy to plop down on when doing floor projects and helpful to stand on to reach the top shelf. Super light weight to move around and small to store.

When I was much younger than I am now my family grew "shell" beans, dad would give us kids a Nickle or a dime to fill a container full... Seeing all these shell beans on your pantry floor drying and then starting the process of having to shell them reminded me of a sweet childhood memory!!
some of my favorite memories as a child and adult is shelling peas and beans in the summer time. Here in East Texas we love Purple Hull Peas and Black Eyed Peas as well as Lady Cream Peas and Pinto Beans! I have shelled many bushels of peas and beans in my 68 years! We shell them fresh though and put them in the freezer! So delicious and fun to pull some from the freezer and have the taste of summer in the dead of winter!

Love you letting us join your journey. I remember buying peas from a farm they had a barrel with baffles inside with one section of the barrel a screen the bean would fall through as they rotated . Some beans varieties more vigorous with the rotation. But it worked

I invested in a NIIMBOT label maker last spring and it has changed my life. Dramatic I know but it is awesome. The labels have all kinds of varieties and I use it for canning labels, organization, gifting. Honestly it’s amazing how often I use it. It really streamlines canning.
After you get them out of the pod set up a fan on med to low speed and pour the beans from one container into another. The lighter debris will be blown away and the bean will drop into the bowl clean, you might have to do this a couple of times.
Thank you for another lovely video. Two items to consider: 1. You might want to freeze grains for 72 hours, to make sure the eggs are killed. 2. Consider letting the flour to relax for 72 hours. It makes a huge difference in the gluten.
Yes, I've always done 3 days (72 hrs) minimum, as well, to be sure any eggs are killed in my flour. I wondered about the wheat berries and if they should be the same. It makes sense it would be.

I've used a sheet before when collecting seeds. If you put down an old sheet instead of cardboard not only would it be easier to clean up and dump the shelled beans, you could also fold it over itself to step on the pods.
My husband has childhood memories of sitting on the back porch in the evenings with his Mom & Dad shelling black-eyed peas. This video reminded me of this.

My husband had strawberry jam growing up so that is mostly what I buy and need to make homemade. I grew up with both but preferred grape jelly or jam but either works today. Dinner looks good we have never put coleslaw on beef only our pork sandwiches..Will have to this now.
When you said that when you had Josh help you with some project he immediately bought a machine that would do the work for you, it brought back a great memory. When we were newly married we did not have a washer or dryer and I took our clothes to the laundromat and did them. I don't know what the occasion was but once I asked my husband to help me do the laundry and he did but when we got back home he immediately got on the phone and called a local store that sold appliances and bought a washer and dryer. If I had known it would be that easy I would have asked for his help a bit earlier! ☺☺☺ I'm still trying to process the fact that you lived to be an adult and had never tasted grape jelly. Grape jelly and peanut butter was my favorite sandwich when I was a child and in fact is still high on my list of favorites today, and it has been decades since I was a child. BTW, that opening shot of your property was breathtaking. You have a BEAUTIFUL home.
I finish drying out my bean pods in mesh laundry bags hung up, which is what I collect them from the garden in also. Then when dried they are already in a bag per say and then I use a rolling pin across them. This way nothing is stored on my basement floor and I have a rolling cart in the basement that I do the rolling on and also move any canning items using the cart. Saves bending and such. Dinner and the jelly looks nummy. I use a 4 fruit organic super juice blend from Trader Joe’s to make my jelly. It reminds you of the mixed fruit jelly from the store. Blessings from Missouri❤

Try seering the chuck roast in a cast iron pan on all sides before adding to slow cooker. Add your broth to pan to take up all the fond in the pan to get all that yummy extra flavor.😊❤

More than farmers stated that when you beat the beans in pillow case, you don’t want to beat them too hard. So, You may not want to walk on them. Just check beans for cracking or braking

Love you letting us join your journey. I remember buying peas from a farm they had a barrel with baffles inside with one section of the barrel a screen the bean would fall through as they rotated . Some beans varieties more vigorous with the rotation. But it worked

I like how you explain your process and explain the tweeks you make to recipes and your process. It's refreshing to see that everything is a process to the best final result. Your kitchen seems like it was made for you. The drawers in the island are perfect for prepping and baking.
I invested in a NIIMBOT label maker last spring and it has changed my life. Dramatic I know but it is awesome. The labels have all kinds of varieties and I use it for canning labels, organization, gifting. Honestly it’s amazing how often I use it. It really streamlines canning.
After you get them out of the pod set up a fan on med to low speed and pour the beans from one container into another. The lighter debris will be blown away and the bean will drop into the bowl clean, you might have to do this a couple of times.

Thank you for another lovely video. Two items to consider:
1. You might want to freeze grains for 72 hours, to make sure the eggs are killed.
2. Consider letting the flour to relax for 72 hours. It makes a huge difference in the gluten.
Becky had the grain in the freezer for a few days and left it on top of the freeze until completely room temperature ,airtight bucket, for storage.

Yes, I've always done 3 days (72 hrs) minimum, as well, to be sure any eggs are killed in my flour. I wondered about the wheat berries and if they should be the same. It makes sense it would be.

I've used a sheet before when collecting seeds. If you put down an old sheet instead of cardboard not only would it be easier to clean up and dump the shelled beans, you could also fold it over itself to step on the pods.
My husband has childhood memories of sitting on the back porch in the evenings with his Mom & Dad shelling black-eyed peas. This video reminded me of this.

My husband had strawberry jam growing up so that is mostly what I buy and need to make homemade. I grew up with both but preferred grape jelly or jam but either works today. Dinner looks good we have never put coleslaw on beef only our pork sandwiches..Will have to this now.

When you said that when you had Josh help you with some project he immediately bought a machine that would do the work for you, it brought back a great memory. When we were newly married we did not have a washer or dryer and I took our clothes to the laundromat and did them. I don't know what the occasion was but once I asked my husband to help me do the laundry and he did but when we got back home he immediately got on the phone and called a local store that sold appliances and bought a washer and dryer. If I had known it would be that easy I would have asked for his help a bit earlier! ☺☺☺ I'm still trying to process the fact that you lived to be an adult and had never tasted grape jelly. Grape jelly and peanut butter was my favorite sandwich when I was a child and in fact is still high on my list of favorites today, and it has been decades since I was a child. BTW, that opening shot of your property was breathtaking. You have a BEAUTIFUL home.
I finish drying out my bean pods in mesh laundry bags hung up, which is what I collect them from the garden in also. Then when dried they are already in a bag per say and then I use a rolling pin across them. This way nothing is stored on my basement floor and I have a rolling cart in the basement that I do the rolling on and also move any canning items using the cart. Saves bending and such. Dinner and the jelly looks nummy. I use a 4 fruit organic super juice blend from Trader Joe’s to make my jelly. It reminds you of the mixed fruit jelly from the store. Blessings from Missouri❤
Becky when I make buns I roll the dough gently and use wide mouth canning led to cut them out than flatten them on a tray works great ❤ sharing what I learn from other utuber

Try seering the chuck roast in a cast iron pan on all sides before adding to slow cooker. Add your broth to pan to take up all the fond in the pan to get all that yummy extra flavor.😊❤

More than farmers stated that when you beat the beans in pillow case, you don’t want to beat them too hard. So, You may not want to walk on them. Just check beans for cracking or braking
I have been inspired by your channel for years and took some time during my unexpected disability leave from work to stock my freezer with meals. I wish I had the time and energy to care for my family and make my home beautiful and warm with cooking on a regular basis but my husband and I both have to work full time to support living in Seattle.
