I have been going back and forth between sunset, the protein and the OD200 for about 2 weeks now and this video finally helped me make up my mind! Sunset it is! Your playing is INCRED-IBLE. Subscribed and definitely going to check out some of the lesson videos you posted - I've been playing for years and I feel kind of stuck. I think these might help! Thanks!
Bro that into jam was 🔥🔥🔥 I got the Riverside w the footswitch for boost. I dig it a lot. I was very impressed w the Sunset 2! Great demo… another case of damn GAS now I think🤦🏾♂️🤣👍🏾💣🎸🤘🏾
This is a great demo, my only gripe is that you refer to the Ge as the "fuzz" setting. I mean, there's nothing fuzz-like about it, I'm pretty sure it's meant to replicate the Klon type of sound.
Ye you’re absolutely right, bit of an incorrect assumption on my part. I do realise that in the demo and say it doesn’t sound very fuzz like at all when I demo that circuit. In future I’ll make sure I try all the settings thoroughly before turning the camera on 😂
@@gregmize01 Oh really?? Well, then Strymon themselves must be wrong I guess, cause this is what they write on their own website: „Ge - The Ge type’s dual path architecture is a newer classic, being brought into existence by Bill Finnegan with the introduction of the Klon Centaur. A host of excellent sounding ‘Klones’ have followed, creating a category of overdrive in its own right.“
Yep. The dude can play. No doubt. And I think there are more comments about his playing than about the pedal. It’s part of the reason pedal companies send products to great players. People naturally associate the playing with the pedal. I say of all these demos made by great players … if want to hear you play I’ll buy your CD. Pete Thorn’s Guitar Nerd is awesome. BTW I own this pedal. Just got it today. Freakin amazing.
great demo, great playing... love the comment that the pedal stomp buttons don't click or stick, and yet the position switcher on the actual guitar literally needs its own tone control
It is possible to turn on one side and when I turn on the other, the first one turns off automatically,,,or act like individual pedals? and another question: this pedal have 250ma consumption...is neccesary to use and indepent power supply?
The only way you can get one side to turn off as you turn the other side on is to use a midi controller. There’s no built in “flip flop” mode when using the pedal as is. Regarding the power, it comes with a power supply, or you will need to use a power brick that will facilitate supplying enough ma. I use the gigrig modular power supply as use their timelord adapter to run it on the board
Finally... someone who played the damn pedal. THANK YOU. Every other guitar channel is like 'here we have a dual OD pedal... let's see how it handles soft jazz'. Jesus Christ. Sub'd. Thank you.
@@PhilShortGuitarist it does. I ordered one Friday so I went to Strymon’s site. It’s a secondary function of side A’s level control. They don’t really say how to access it though lol
No they dont sound similar, not even close. Completely different gain structure. The sunset depends heavily on a good preamp section after it but has more gain and sounds more vintage. Riverside is just fantastic standalone but even better with broke up iridium. Riversides strongpoimt is lowgain, it is just awesome. my favourite thing to do is low gain riverside into broke up iridium on the chime. then for leadsounds kick on sunset GE and 2 stage in parallel. for clean sounds just roll off the volume on the guitar. AMAZING. Always on pedal. BTW i tried to match riverside and sunset in stereo, one was left and one was right. Impossible. If I came close but then switched cab on iridium, again totally different. STOP COMPARING THEM. And stop. saying the sunset is superior just cause it has more knobs. A sunset on its own can do good but it accells with some drive after it. A riverside standalone... man, awesome. Riverside works fine with just bigsky cabfilter, no iridium. Sunset lacks in that setting and is mediocre. Sunset plus RS plus Bigsky cabsim is great tho. no iridium needed (to iridium makes it even better) I recorded for 2 year only with bigsky cabfiltwr and sunset. Got some nice results. However Riverside and iridium just mad that big of a difference
@Dave Davies 😂😂😂😂 u are right and longrun I would say just get em both and have fun or get the riverside if you only can afford one especially low gain Btw the sunset if you like a lot of different lead tones
Oh piss...another pedal demo strumming A7 chords................Holy Sgit....rips my face off, curls my toes, and makes my hair stand on end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just sold my od-200. Only liked 1setting alot and another one a bit. But it was too complex for my taste so it might just be me that didn't take enough time to go in depth with it.
when you think about it, it is really doing the job of 2 pedals and the Strymon sound is unmatched. I paid 479.00 for the Bigsky and it has revolutionized the way I play. Worth every penny.

Incredible playing and great review of this pedal. I've had the Sunset for about a week and it's a permanent fixture on my board now. Great pedal!
Unreal playing man!!! Wow so good
Some of the most outstanding playing and tone I've ever heard, amazing job demo'ing this!
Thank you 🙏🏻
Amazing playing and explanations! This video was very helpful to decide. Thanks!
Welll dayum, I did not see that coming! Amazing opening song man, seriously!
Great demo of this hugely versatile pedal! I picked one up last week and this vid has really helped me get to grips with it, cheers Phil. Subbed 👍🏼
Cheers Adam, appreciate it!
Great demo of a really cool pedal...think I may be adding the Sunset to my board very soon! Awesome playing too my friend.
Cheers Gaz appreciate that mate!
helpful explanation thx. ps. it also has an adjustable noise gate and can allow you to use your expression pedal as a volume pedal...
What the hell man. Chops! 🔥
Seriously haha came for the pedal stayed for the chops
Damn dude your playing is 🔥!!
Great demo - great personality for doing this IMHO (and nice playing) - thanks!
Cheers Bob, greatly appreciated mate! ✊🏻👊🏻
Great demo. I loved the sound (and the tone of it) you made in the opening. I ordered the pedal and I’m awaiting for it to arrive.

Incorrect! It's a germanium style treble boost...it has zero relevance to a Klon!

Great playing Phil. Have you played Strymon Riverside as comparison? I love the Texas overdrive sound
Great channel, great and complete review , and easily understandable for a non native english speaker ; thanks ! 😀
Great Demo and awesome playing as usual Phil 😀🎸👍
Really nice legato’s going on there brother!
Amazing playing...!
Brilliant demo and playing .. subbed (ps, and I'm really hard to please) 👍👍👍
Great demo dude !
Great review bro
Should do a side by side test with the Fridman & the Friedman demon FX $70
good sound. but tell me through which amplifier you turn it on.
It's going into the Hamsteqd Artist 60 👍
@@PhilShortGuitarist of course. With such an amplifier, any pedal will sound so fucked up.
What pickups do you have in that strat?
