Final fantasy XI was one of the hardest and most grueling MMOs ever and I absolutely LOVED it. Getting a new level, piece of gear, spell, etc... it all meant something and was so rewarding. Hell spell casters had to hit a certain level, and then obtained a scroll to learn spells. No fast travel unless you got a White Mage to teleport you, or a Black Mage to warp you home. No party finder. No soloing past level 10. Getting a piece of gear that was very difficult to get at level 30, could still be really good at max level 75. If you died, you lost experience points and could legit de-level..... UGH, I miss those days. All this goes to say, I hope AoC can be something special.

Concerning the MMO genre - It's weird to me how so much effort is put into immersion but then almost every modern MMO combat design requires you to completely disconnect from your character by zooming the camera out so far that it looks like a bunch of ants running around on the screen in order to utilize the meta. It makes every MMO look the same in a sense.
I get where you're coming from. Either zoom out and see what happening around you or zoom in and be oblivious but enjoy your immersion. I know some players that zoom out so it's like they are playing league lol. In ashes when I can be attacked really at any time being a bit zoomed out sounds like the play.

Can I play alone a fair amount of game? or there will be too much only party dungeons/quest and many key items locked behind guilds features.
I know it is an mmo and there should be that kind of stuff, but can a solo player still play a fair amount?
They have assured us there will be plenty of solo content. But until we get to experience the full game it'll be hard to know exactly what that means. I can say they are looking to bring the massive back to MMO. So there will be a lot of group oriented play.
I just got to level 29 in throne and liberty and I'm not sure why these mmorpgs are designed this way. Do the designers think that game is fun?
I hope ashes brings some life into this genre because I can honestly say I havent thought any of them were good since swotor, and huttball carried that game so hard.
Ashes is being built by gamers and not suits. The reason this game even exists is because the creative director Steven Sharif was literally sick of the current MMORPG line up handing out shit content, hand holding, greedy monetization, and no challenge. So we might be safe this time.

I heard the name of this game but never knew it had a caravan system like Silkroad Online. I watched the caravan videos and it seems nothing short of SRO. As a SRO vet, I can not wait for it to launch!
This game doesn't have anything right now because it hasn't released yet. Hope you are okay with waiting another 10 years to never, to play it. Yes, it's already been close to a decade in production, and they are only just now releasing Alpha 1.

It's kinda shit, it's taken like 7 years now to still be in alpha with over 100+ devs apparently. Like, Steven should be ashamed; he’s been clowning too much making that battle royale. Dude wanted to ride the money train royale, got insane backlash, and then decided to just continue the MMO. The dude’s been working on the MMO for 3 years likely, probably has 1 or 2 more years to go till the actual official release, that’s if we see a closed beta or open beta next year. Most MMOs have an average development time of 3-6 years. Steven should’ve released his battle royale, then officially announced he was making an MMO. It would’ve been less disappointing than feeling like we've been waiting legit 7 years since the project started development and was announced.
Devs release games to soon, we complain. They take to long, we complain. Who cares how long its taking. Find something else to do and forget about Ashes, one day it'll release and you'll be like oh yea! True most mmos only take 3-6 years, but most mmos are also terrible and alllll people do is bitch and moan about them. Then the one time a dev shows up and wants to take its time and be ambitious and break the WoW mold we bitch? get outta here. 🤣
Definitely going to play this. Small to medium size merc group for hire. Caravan raid/guard, bounty hunter/ assassination, etc.

I dont understand why its so common for mmorpg games to simplify everything nowadays. I used to play Tree of Savior, mmo that hooked me for thousands of hours. I loved the difficulty, class diversity and the freedom of choice. The class system was just as diverse as WoW Classic back in the day.
I would log at early morning and grind monsters in same area for hours to get a single item (0.3% chance), that I would then use as material towards end game gear. The game promoted hardcore grind, but at the end you would feel like you accomplished something, it felt good to get things you worked hard for. Unfortunately, even this game died because its own devs decided to turn it into p2w and gave players a free weapon which leveled up along with them, making 99% of maps and gear a complete waste of time.

@@Roarrior And for the next 10 years. God I hope I'm wrong and that this game turns out to firstly release, and secondly be as great as it promised. But we know the chances of that actually happening are lower and lower each passing day. Yes, technically speaking, games that take a long time to launch should be great on release. But that literally never happened, every game that promised the sea and the stars and took 10 years of development failed day 1. Because the longer it takes, the higher the expectations become, and when your game ends up being just good, or just decent, it doesn't make up for all that time waiting.
@@spookyclaws5350 exactly. star citizen is also, on paper of what it wants to be, more or less a "perfect game" if you have any sort of interest in space games or just that general idea of game. however just because its stated list of goals and features are awesome doesnt mean the actual product is.
right now star citizen is an irrelevant meh game, at best it serves as an impressive tech demo of various techs, some already in the game, some only demonstrated in videos, but it sure hasnt managed to put it together to be a real product, and that is with an absolutely huge development budget.
another issues with these games is that they have an established and proven business model of funding from hopium and copium, people paying for what it could be, not what it is. that means they have an incentive to never actually be anything, because they can keep gravy train going with the current setup, being nothing but a dream people pay into, but the second it becomes real they have to actually have a product that lives up to those expectations to generate them revenue.
they end up having lots of incentives to never deliver, and just keep the eternal development and crowdbegging going

I really liked your enthusiasm but I would love to see some maths behind it all.
Because I have sat through 8 years of Developer livestreams listening to the creative director deeply explain what he wants his game to be. First the game is taking heavy inspiration from L2 and Archeage. Both are very grindy games, Those were Stevens favorite MMOs. Secondly they have told us the max level is 50 and it will take around 250+ hours to hit max. That's quite the grind compared to most modern mmos. And they are bringing the challenge back, no more soloing, no more hand holding, less quality of life. The really do want us to work hard and earn our achievements. Of course we haven't played it yet so we just have to take the creative directors word for it. But he is very convincing. Thanks for watching!

The sad thing is, everything AoC is doing is going to be ruined by players.
Players are lazy. Players are boring. They will immediately gravitate to TH-cam and Discord to find out whats "best" to play and only play that. They will form massive zergs to trivialize all content.
MMORPGs have become what they have because PLAYERS made them that way, not devs.

I started on a private wow server, and the community there are great guys help on mythic +1-10 to boost the guys up, maybe ashes should have a system where the high end player base, can help the casual or new players, and get rewarded for it
@@rstallard89stallard49 they do have a mentor system. Plus since the game will be heavily focused on guild and group based progression the guild you join should understand your playtime situation.

What do they want?
@@lebobshark just look at MMO which were the most successful. WoW, TESO, GW2, FFXIV - no one of them has distracting features like building own towns, advenced guild management, or some kind of big battles. They are strightfoward, focusing on storytelling, questing and classic group content like dungeons, raids etc. These MMO has also good "stick and carrot" mechanism. Of course, GW2 has kind of battles in WvW, but it's nothing complicated, you just queue and you are ready to fight. I am not saying, that no one will play AoC, I'm also waiting for this game, but there is a difference whether your game has 1 million players or 100k.
Awesome video! One thing Ashes needs to work on is the character creation and glamour. I would like my character to look cute while fighting. Not all medieval vibe.

1 yr later...our studio is under new ownership and has decided to scratch the mmo genre as we feel this game has lost its fan support. Thanks for your millions upon millions of dollars though suckers!

I hate games being promoted so highly when there no actual expected release its like they just get a kick out of teasing players. Why not slowly just add population and fix on the go if ya need to shut the game down for a day or so to work on in then do so. Get everyones hopes up just for this to launch and be ran to the ground
People are playing right now. They are doing just that. 1000 more players were just invited last week and the Alpha 2 test will be live within 2 months. People need to know what this game is about. That's why we hype it. And if it finally launches and is "ran to the ground" then GG. What else is new 😂

Ashes of Creation will be Cosmetic garbage that ruins any ounce of reward anyways. MMORPGs will always be dead unless a few million dudes agree to sub $80 monthly to an MMO to prevent any P2W AND cosmetics ruining the fun.
You always have FFXIV. Yes it's a monthly sub, but there's no p2w shit, and the best looking gear is usually locked behind hard content that most people don't do.
@@ruskyalmond1977 weird take. But I kinda agree. The cosmetic packs paint a weird picture. They claim you can get just as cool or even cooler armor in game but we haven't seen much yet. Maybe a bit early to label this game like that though.

It will be another 3-4 years before this is open to everyone.
Couldn't be more wrong. Alpha 2 opens in 2 months. In fact Intrepid is giving the exact date during the July 31st live stream. Currently over 100k players have A2 access and access purchasing will be available to everyone and open again soon. No word on cost yet but it will be available to anyone. I will update once we know for sure.
They can release it then continue progressing the development. FFX14 has 40 hours of content per expansion more or less. AoC trying too hard here but nothing is perfect there will be hater even they try to be perfect.
