    Stuff we use:
    CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
    LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
    Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
    Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
    LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
    COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
    EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

    What questions have you been afraid to ask a film distributor?

    Came for filmmaking advice, learned how to sell a house. Not disappointed ✔✔💯✨

    I really like the attitude of "Don't look back, you're not going that way..." I must have done or said something to cheese off a producer yesterday, and won't get back to me. So now I will have to blow off the rejection. Lesson learned.

    Here's good psychological advice for dealing with distribution and intimidation: embrace it! If making the deal scares you, it's an indicator you don't understand the process and you need in person education and you need experience in seeing progress as well as denial. When the shadows are all gone and you know what to expect, your brain will drastically reduce your fear response

      Film Courage - No worries, I’m currently going through this process with my debut feature myself, and I 100% agree that the 1st point is a very important question to ask. As film makers we have to know where we stand before we decide to move things further. 🙏🏽

      Film Courage - Thank you kindly guys, there was a few mountains to climb but we made it 😊. It is most definitely a very tricky side to manage especially if contracts and legal are not your main thing. The one thing that helped both my producer and myself more than anything, was getting a lawyer to go over the relevant paperwork. It definitely helped a lot.

    Listening to Jeff talk the process of the film business is better than the Master Class of Martin Scorsese.

  • @joshm569

    Problem is you ask that question, and they lie to you in order to get your film. Had this happen with HIGH OCTANE ENTERTAINMENT and they flat out lied and robbed me blind! Better to ask other filmmakers what the actual results were when they dealt with a company.

    • @leroykincaide
      @leroykincaide 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Josh M - This is most definitely an issue when it comes to the sales side of any project. The best you can do is get a solid lawyer to go over you contract and negotiate it to an equal advantage. Especially with a performance claws and use of a CAM. Hope you are able to get your rights back or see about an audit?

    • @joshm569
      @joshm569 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@leroykincaide Yes, that's what we did (hire a lawyer) and we took HIGH OCTANE ENTERTAINMENT to court. The other issue is distribution companies like them bank on the fact filmmakers don't have the resources to fight them in court, so they use that to their advantage as well.

    It's best to get an agent or the advice of another filmmaker. They will tell you how much you can realistically make.

    Rejection one can say they made a business decision. Ok, let’s move on. BUT it’s the screwing from other practitioner who seek to undermine another, actively, to further their position and career. That! That is really difficult to deal with.

    If you have trouble asking questions you’re going to be used as someone who has trouble with everything that involves asking questions of a stranger in all parts of life. Talk to a distributor as if you’re on a date, be nice, but don’t be a spineless fish who gives them everything as a serf serving a lord’s will.

    Hahaha, this interviewer cracks me up. She is so clueless about business and how negotiation and sales work. You can see Jeff get uncomfortable by her stupid questions.

    • @JordanRayAllen
      @JordanRayAllen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No question is a "stupid question" if you're not educated in the topic or specifics at hand.
