what an incredible line up...looks like a super fun evening to be in the club
What a band
a rather classy line-up
Thx for the list! I thought that was Grolnick I saw! Fabulous!
Musicianship. Good taste. Lots of listening to each other. And the writing is impeccable! I forget how great F. Malabe was. Mr. Erskine, you are a miracle. What a pocket. Thanks. R.I.P. D. Sanborn.
A++++++ great to see late Sanborn stretching out
Never realised Will Lee was so very capable, so playfully solid and musical.
RIP Dave Sanborn - splendid solo
I don't know how you never realized. He's a legend, man. Recorded and played with everyone...
@hoolyboy - yeah dude, I'm aware, his name is on hundreds of albums since the 70s and still going strong with the modern cats of today. However, on this video, I must admit, I felt something much more than a solid tasty session player. Cheers
@@naderzekrya5238Will has always had the ability to jump in in any situation , with no or little rehearsal, and just killing it!
Incredible chart, incredible band, so good to an early reading of this, early 80’s?
Rough one…Mr. Sanborn was such a pleasure to listen to, may he rest in peace.
The east coast's finest back in the day. Looks like you guys had a ball. Missing Dave. Thanks for sharing, Peter. ❤
That's an incredible trumpet section indeed! The great Lew Soloff was one of my favorite players.
Wow what a sax section. Dave on lead and Michael playing 2nd tenor. RIP Sanborn.
Dude this band was stacked. But Brecker on 2nd tenor blows my effing mind. And Sanborn on lead. He had a very distinct and bright sound, but the fact he was able to sit down in this big band and play in a section proves he could play anything.
Back in those day everyone played big bands...no big deal..
@@Zxx459 Actually I never knew Sanborn did big band stuff
Thank you for sharing this Peter. Makes us remember the good people we lost. RIP Dave
Rest in peace David.
A great among greatest...
What an incredible video to get to see, thank you so much for sharing this. I'm gobsmacked at the sheer amount of legends in this band, and seeing Laurie and Lew together brings tears to my eyes. Also, Dave Taylor's sound!
Wow, what a great live NYC peek into the players/charts/bands that heavily influenced my early modern big band education in jr and sr high school! This must've been recorded somewhere around 1979-1982?? I was lucky to see the band live around '86, with nearly the exact personnel. Laurie had taken advantage of some FL sunbathing, and was quite red for that gig. I had a brief comical exchange with Bob about why Dave Taylor had subbed out the gig. Not to worry - Matt Finders obviously filled the spot nicely. Thanks, Peter....and RIP to Dave, Frankie, Laurie, and Lew....and Don Grolnick!
Thank you so much, Peter, for posting this. What a fantastic band! I’m from Ft. Lauderdale and saw your clinic with Jaco and Randy Bernsen. Needless to say I’m a longtime fan. RIP David Sanborn.
So good... thanks for this treasure!
Amazing Clip! Thank you so much, Peter! And David, reminding us that he had real, honestagawd jazz chops first and foremost.
Peace be with all heroes we have lost. Peace be with all heroes still living among us. Thanks for sharing Mr. Erskine. You sound great on this. Killer timekeeping and drum solo❤️🌹💝
this is how I remember Dave when I heard him in the 90s in sydney - what was in the water back then? and are you kidding me - that percussion solo? a great and soulful performance I never would have heard without this posting… thanks
Unfuckin‘ good!!!! Unbelievable. 🙃
Amazing! Great Big Band!
Thanks for this ....Have the pleasure to meet you twice ...stay well all the best
RIP David 😔
Thanks for posting this. A real Gem. Such a mighty solo from Dave! (got a lump in my throat listening)
Love your use of space and energy in you drum solo, Peter! The band's hot here as well. Grateful for this one and RIP, David Sanborn.
what a great line up!
Thank you for sharing. For those who don’t know - the Brecker Brothers owned Seventh Avenue South in NYC where this was shot.
Thanks for uploading this video extract ❤.
What a kickin' tight horn section! And I love the personal family aspect with your dad at the camera! I completely love it! Love you, Dave.
a gem: thank you Mr E.
Thanks for posting this, Peter. Feels like I’ve been invited to join a bunch of buddies at a favorite hometown club - and the hang is great. R.I.P. David Sanborn.
Wonderful! Thank you, Peter.
I’ve got a CD, “Papa Lips”, recorded in 1983, with almost the same line up... David, Don, Michael Brecker, you... 💓
Dear Peter, thanks for sharing ! So many stories about this (Seventh Avenue South) place that the Brecker bros owned, so nice to get a good audience perspective . Everyone's playing is superb, absolut toplevel ensemble playing.
How do you owned a club...privileged guys
Amazing thanks for sharing! Loved that cat!❤ What a sax section lol🔥🔥🔥

Where was this record session it
Year?
Wow- what year was this? Guessing early to mid-eighties... Props to Will Lee for rocking that sweater with unironic conviction. 🙂
What year is this?
Very strong New Rochelle connection ;D
nice sweater lee!
1983?
Will Lee is having a drink! Bass player got to read, ouch. Everyone is so young. I recorded them with a Walkman. Lew got all the gigs.
Great! Please correct the personnel if possible, it's Laurie Frink. ty
The spelling of Laurie's name is now fixed, thank you for pointing out my error.
Funny tune...not really groove latin but ok
Which year is this?
Thank you for posting this. RIP, Dave Sanborn. I saw this fantastic band several times at 7th Ave. So., S.O.B.'s and even the Latin Quarter, as I was doing a little copywork for Bob at this time (before he joined Kendor, I think). It was a thrill to see the band sightread Bob's charts perfectly the first time. Speaking of perfect, Bob's scores were also perfect. Never a mistake! Not even an accidental or articulation out of place. He would finish a score as he was playing Starlight Express and ask me to meet him at the stage door afterwards to hand it over. Amazing arranger, player and bandleader. I'm so glad that this video exists so folks can get an idea of how great that band was.
Don Grolnick!!!
Great!! The top of the top!! I saw Lew Soloff back in 1993 at Sweet Basi!! Amazing!!
RIP David Sanborn!!💜🕊🎷
This is 🔥!!! RIP David Sanborn. One of the best to ever do it.
SO GOOD !!!! Thanks for posting this. David Sanborn's music will live on. He will be greatly missed by all that heard him play.
Merci dear Peter ! With Don Grolnick on keys too... Wow.
David was cooking on all cylinders.
I find the way that Sanborn holds his horn completely insane, it's almost on the angle you'd hold your clarinet on! But can't argue with those results he always sounded great.
на сапог снимали?
Fantastic, very moving; a date, even approximate?
October 10, 1983
SO GREAT, Peter! 🙏🙏 LOVE that your dad shot it, too! Band was kicking... and aww man... Dave....
Wow. Thanks Peter. That's some true history there. And the band transcends that old VHS tape to sound amazing, as that band was!
This is fabulous!! Thank you so much for posting this. Sure makes me miss the old days! Gosh, I didn't know Laurie Frink had passed away. Hugs, Peter. Marti
Peter, Will, Roger and Dave ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥❤ all the pocket
What a band! Papa Lips is one of my favourite Big Band albums of all time. Sanborn does such a great job playing with and around the backing on this track. What a treat to see this band's energy in a live setting, thanks a lot for uploading!
