  • Perhaps now more than ever, RC enthusiasts are custom building incredible RC vehicles from ultra scale trucks to rigs that perform. Each builder spends hours and days thinking about each individual part they’re installing and sometimes how to customize it to truly make it what they want. Why should your motor be any different. Do off the shelf motors just not live up to the standards that you want to put into your custom RC? Holmes Hobbies takes care of that void in the RC market with their custom Pro Brushed Motors. In this video, John goes over the details of what can go into a motor and what the Holmes Hobbies staff can build for you. Been wanting a custom motor but need some ideas on what to look for before ordering? Well here’s the video you’ve been waiting for!

    WOW!! Lots of information! Lets see ...... I'll take the five slot skewed with the standup silver brushes. My Bomber is getting really heavy, does that come in the 550 size? I love the fast bashing but I need to hang out with the crawlers at times. And sometimes I get a little wet ....

    That was freaking hilarious! Nice small adjustment screwdriver! Just wanted to say this is a great idea so you can build the motor for the way you have built your truck and make special changes that you couldn't do off-the-shelf! Congrats on all the success of your company you have worked so hard and built a quality product for the financially challenged customer! We appreciate you helping out the little guys to keep up with the big money systems! And I do believe you are completely built in the USA if I'm not mistaken?

    Why isn't the skewed arm standard in the crawlmaster? It seems it has more positives than negatives.

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cost. It's already difficult to hit the current price point of Crawlmaster Pro motors. The skewed armature is more expensive and takes more time to hand wind.

    Thanks for the info. You just sent me a Puller 500 11t, on the way still, but thought I would spend some more time looking for more info and comparisons to other motors, not just against your products. Not a lot out there in the wild? So would be interested in seeing the 500 pitted against some if you have old vids or links.
    And something for content.. maybe a vid showing your motors returned for warranty or rebuild and what the failures were and why, you know we like some carnage now and then, lol.

    John, as you may know by now (or not!), I've got your Brushed 30 turn Handwound Torquemaster Pro...
    Which I've LOVED for over 6 years!! 👍👍
    Is this Motor in this Video's category??
    Just want to know...
    You've watched a lot of late night Commercials in the 80's, didn't you? 😋
    Anyway on my Torquemaster Pro, it been perfect for 8 Brush changes and one Comm turning....
    But I think it's finally time for an upgrade.
    I'm STILL poor, could I get a 13t 5-Slot Skewed Armature, and put it in this 3-Slot Can??
    Or do I have to replace the Endbell... Which then I might as well wait and try to get a whole new one.
    I want a very Torquey but Speedy Motor. This 30t was perfect.
    The old SCX10 One (Legacy?), between 43/13 Diff Gears on BOTH ends, and my Transmission Gearing....
    I've got a FDR of 58.4:1
    It keeps the Motor from working too hard, but I need something that can spool up for Wheelspeed.
    John, I STILL recommend Holmes Hobbies to anyone who will listen to me... as short as that list has become.

    Great video John! Thanks for posting. I want to know what you would run for a class 2 comp truck on 3s. I like you love some power on tap but also want that low speed control. Can you do a dyno video comparing your brushed motors? Like the puller pro vs the magnum

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard choice between a skewed 35t and a skewed 16t 5 slot. I tend to choose 5 slot.
      I'll start back on dyno vids in the future, they take a lot of time to shoot.

    Can you make multiple wind motors that are brushed I mean 3-6 winds?

  • @jasonbillsombilon6977
    @jasonbillsombilon6977 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this video John. Got a question, Does hand wound winding do follow certain pattern on coiling each slot? Depending on number of turns and wire gauge to be used

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes indeed. 3 slot follows a very specific stacking pattern, like building a pyramid. 5 slot also has a pattern but it's moreso to prevent crossovers on top and bottom and minimize coil volume.
      Winding patterns is initially the toughest part, but after enough practice it actually becomes the easiest part of making handwound motors.

    • @jasonbillsombilon6977
      @jasonbillsombilon6977 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HolmesHobbies Thanks for your response.
      Do winding pattern have calculation in order to obtain the exact number of Turns and wire gauge to be used? Im in doubt with some DIY videos where guys make first various drawing as a guide to where the next stack will be place over the other until the certain Turns Set are achieve, but lastly they end-up on Pyramid stack
      Given like a 540 3-slot motor wanting to achieve max torque without sacrificing also increase RPM

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although calculating can be done, it is far quicker to just wind a motor and see how much fits with any given wire gauge.

    • @jasonbillsombilon6977
      @jasonbillsombilon6977 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HolmesHobbies Is there a significant difference produce by a making a Single rewind with bigger wire vs. a 3 or 4 rewind per slot with smaller wire in terms of achieving Max torque and RPM? btw, best fit for 2S Li-Po battery

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crawling? No. Racing, single wire produces more punch due to lower inductance.

  • @tomlucasrccrawlers9108
    @tomlucasrccrawlers9108 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey John.
    Would you make a 550-can TorqueMaster Magnum in a high turn...like maybe in a 35 or 40-turn?
    I'd like ALOT more torque in my 8x8 Mammoth without going brushless. The stock motor is smooth...it's a 38-turn 560 motor.
    I wouldn't be opposed to a little more speed...but it's not needed.
    It's just a super heavy rig.

    • @HolmesHobbies
      @HolmesHobbies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks like its a no-go. Just got word that Sagami doesn't want to stack any new "custom" armature variations.
