      @@midshipcinema i am mostly interested to see the current state of the former rci ship majesty of the seas. last of her class and in my opinion a very handsome ship. oh i just realized she is in elefsina, not far from where you are/were!

    Fantastic video of my favourite place Peter! I've always wanted to try and get out to the Rasa Sayang, maybe someday. 😉

      I took a taxi to the outlook behind her but recall the road was blocked off to the shore nearest her. That was in the late 90s and hard to believe it has been so long. Thank you for watching. :)

    Another lovely video, Peter. Piraeus and Perama bay just aren't the same without veterans with blue funnels with big white "X"s on them! My first time to Piraeus was aboard the "Queen Frederica" on a cruise (1 was 12 at the time).....next visit was on the "Australis" in '76! Cheers, enjoy your cruise! And remember........"X"!!!

      Oh, Mark! Those two "X" ships and ELLINIS are among my dream boats! I always think of them and others like ATHINAI when I walk through the port. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)

    What a shame to see the BERLIN like that. The BERGENSFJORD laying on its side, 😔😔. I thought the MELODY was scrapped. I love seeing the ferries, they always remind me of the small cruise ships we sailed on. Again, this was a great video Peter Knego. I can't wait to see the next one.

    Absolutely wonderful video, Peter! I, too, was shocked to see the former BERLIN in such a sorry state! It's amazing that the old RASA SAYANG still hasn't been scrapped (and by this time, never will be). The warship briefly seen is an ex-Dutch frigate of the KORTENAER Class, a bit long in the tooth but the Greeks keep modernizing her and her sisters to keep the numbers up in comparison with their arch-rivals, the Turks, who's navy is far larger and more powerful. I'm looking forward to your return trip on the ferry. The amount of shipping there is just staggering. My camera would blow up, for sure!!

    • @midshipcinema
      @midshipcinema  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much! Very cool to know about the Dutch frigate. I even said to Mike that for a war ship, she was really good looking and spotless, too. I think RASA SAYANG will outlive us all. Sometimes, she has smaller ships and fishing boats tied up to her stern area, so maybe she is serving a purpose.

      It is the Grand Central of all shipping. I've been coming to Piraeus on a regular basis since 1992 and it always has some surprises.

    You passed from the point where a historical ancient naval war took place , Themistocles against the Great King of Persia. Sometimes with a fishing boat you can see shipwrecks of ancient ships

    • @midshipcinema
      @midshipcinema  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow, famtastic. I'm not up on my ancient shipping history but doesn't surprise me. Elefsina, where I could not aim my camera, was considered a portal to the Underworld, which was fitting for its role with decaying liners and cruise ships for many years. I love Greek history and culture, so thank you for sharing. :)

      @@midshipcinema It is not... shipping history, Jesus H. Christ! it is the NAVAL BATTLE WHICH SAVED Greece and allowed the ClASSICAL MARVELS, the basis of WESTERN CIVILIZATION. GO study it instead of making videos of the most backward, ugly regions of Attica. and it was 2,500 years ago.

      I spent a day on board in Patras a year before she capsized and have been to Petrola to film the wreck from the shore several times. I have her CITY OF YORK bell in my Library and a few other smaller things I was able to obtain over the years. Another wreck that I don't think is going anywhere. I won't be able to see her this time but she is a fascinating ship.

    UHH - "RASA SAYANG" - always loved her until now. She was planed as a replacement operated by CTC for their Australian Division after Australia and New Zealand closed the ports to Soviet ships 1980. Sad - she never make a mile out of the harbour again. 1980 was a bad burning year for Liners & Cruisers - "LEONARDO DA VINCI", "RASA SAYANG", & "PRINSENDAM".
