  • The first house I show was built in the early 1900’s between 1900-1910, in a very unique art deco farm house style. The balcony on the front porch was very unusual and there are no other similar houses in the area. Lots of unique and interesting details. The second place filmed was an old two room schoolhouse built in the early 1900’s. Big thanks too sandy for showing me this cool old places! Last place filmed was built around 1850 for a wealthy family and went through a number of different lives. It’s last use was as a school. Say vacant for many years but apparently there is word it will be restored and saved now. Such cool old historic places. Thank you for watching! Hope you enjoy

That kitchen sink/cabinet looks just like one my grandmother had in Virginia. Her house was built late 1800's to very early 1900's. The spigots were the same also. Oh my word... furniture was very similar also. Sorry... commenting as I'm watching. The tv too! That first house really brought back memories. She would have been 123 today and she passed almost 40 years ago.

It’s always a bad roof that condemns a structure to rot. This was a beautiful home at one time.

Yes and it makes you wonder why who ever owned this home did not get a new roof put on it or do any maintenance on the house before they decide to abandon it or try to sell it at least ,or if owner passed away if another family member did or did not inherit the home

When building this house, I wonder if they ever thought about how all their hard work would disintegrate in 100 years. Sorta reframes things… all the work we do now will be forgotten in 100 years. Dust in the wind.

    Sigh
If only this country was not a "throw away society"
So many homes could be taken apart and the materials reused.
Instead of tearing it down or left to rot. Such a wasteful ethos.

Wow. The 1st place, that poor old girl is returning to nature. Still had some relics though. Love the crystal doorknobs. The schoolhouse was a blast to see. There is one here that is one huge room and a tiny kitchen. The people living in it added a bathroom, but otherwise, it's 1 big open room. Pretty cool. The grand old lady does look like it's in some stage of rehab. 12ft ceilings, huge rooms, the staircase-lordy! Our town is a civil war town and we have 8-10 houses from that period. The town puts on what's called "Parade of homes", where you can walk through and see what features they have, and rooms set up for the time period. There are even a couple of the plantation left. There is even a cannonball still in the courthouse from the war. You and Miss Ruby would love them. Another great video Mr Kappy! Hi Miss Ruby! Thanks for taking me along!😊

I just started watching and I don't know what you did, but the CC is back! Yea!!!!! It was a nice house at onetime. I liked the living room and kitchen, I didn't see a toilet in the upstairs bathroom.
The third place sure had a lot of windows. Sure is a neat house, hope they restore it. I wish we got a peek at the attic. Did it have a basement?

On house #1 - Yes I agree Kappy. I think its been abandoned way before the 1996 calendar. Beautiful old house and I love the little kitchen. Kind of a dangerous house to explore though, with the ceilings and floors decaying. #2 is a really cool place with the "barn doors" to open up the two rooms. Hi Sandy!! Love your accent :o) House #3 is such a beautiful place and I love the staircase. Hopefully it will be restored. Thanks Kappy - and Sandy - for the explore. Enjoy your weekend and stay safe :o)

With the use of imagination in that chair on the downnstairs porch you could almost see a old man in bibs smoking a pipe .The stories she could tell us if it were possible . I liked the old School House dont see much them anymore .The last home sure was pretty such cool wood work ....stunnning sure hope someone is restoring her. Her limits are endless she has a lot to offer . Great video as always Kappy !! 👍👍

I'm guessing that the downstairs bathroom was originally part of the porch. This was once a lovely house that fell victim to the lack of a good roof. Those old school houses are sometimes saved by historical societies, but this one is too far gone. The second house looks like someone did all of the needed demolition in preparation of repairing and replacing what needs done. All of the details have been preserved. This place could be gorgeous again. I sure hope it will be.

Well, Kappy you have done it yet again... You never disappoint us with your vedios... These 3 were interesting to watch !! I wish I could have rolled back the years to when they were first built and occupied. I bet they were all amazing to see back in their time of glory. Before they started to decay and were abandoned... Can you imagine the stories they could tell if their walls could talk. I can just imagine the laughter, love and happiness they all three shared at times while they were being lived in.
And I can hear the school bell being run as children race up the stairs carrying their books to go inside and sit down.
They all three were great finds to share with us Kappy... I do enjoy watching your vedios and hearing you tell us about the history of your finds before you take us in to explore...
Thanks for sharing with us... See you in the next explore !! Take care Kappy and stay safe out there !!!!

The first house, build around 1900, reminded me so much of the Movie Dr. Zhivago. The old house in Siberia, where Zhivago, grew up as the foster son of the man who he would marry his daughter Tanya, years later. If I go near a house like that one, I'd bring my Metal detector! The old lamp was Art Deco. Should have picked that one up. All these old houses just decaying and falling apart. One day they won't be standing there anymore!

The upstairs low balcony railing is made of metal and that is definitely Art Deco. Also, the faceplates for the door knobs are Art Deco. This house just didn't want to give up some Victorian traits. The closed in staircase is a very moderne twist to what would seem like a Victorian house on the outside. The floor plan, however, is very moderne. There are no hallways in the downstairs and no foyer like most Victorians have. Tax records indicate the house was built in 1925. By this time, the Victorian style had faded as a popular style. I think this house is a blend of two styles and that's what makes it so totally unique. And let's not forget those mohair chairs. They are straight-up Art Deco.

Aw, the farmhouse was just beautiful in its heyday. It's still easy to see what a wonderful home it was in its prime. I'm surprised you got so far upstairs, thank you for that! The schoolhouse reminds me of one (much smaller) in the back field of a house I lived in when I was a youngster. The last one was impressive, those central halls were huge! I hope someone finishes the restoration, it's a beautiful place. Thanks for a three-for-one! All the best, Kappy, stay safe out there!

Good evening Kappy! This first house is, indeed, sad. It must have been a stunner earlier in its long life.
Oh, I do like those old farmhouse sinks. My drwam house will have one, if I have to go find an old house and "liberate" one of them!
The calendar may speak of relatively recent occupancy, but when that ceiling caved, it did some awful damage. No telling what structural integrity has been damaged or lost.
I am glad that it seems that your past life-endangering exploits have taught you caution, dear man, and I'm very glad for that. I've had nightmares where we would see you filming while falling through rotten floors! Awful!
It's a shame, I'll agree, that you didn't find this house before the roof caved in. It was pretty, I'll bet.
House Number Two - Those nine over nine windows are amazing! I like the barn door type of opening, with panels that lift up on cables to make one large classroom from two small ones. It's very inventive that the "chalkboard" is just a section of the wall that has been painted.
It's disgraceful, the way that people filled its rooms with junk.
House Number Three - This house's beautiful exterior is almost all that's left of this once stately home. The few touches of grandeur inside are all that tell of a once beautiful pre-war home, the pride of its owners.
It would be interesting to return one day and see the restorations "they" will make to this old beauty.
Thanks for another video of interesting explores, and to Sandy for showing them to you, Kappy.

The first time I went in this house I came in the room with those beautiful chairs. They are awesome. I didn't go beyond the kitchen this time. It is too dangerous. It did look like the owners had been in the house and changed a few things. I can't imagine why they did that. They took the door knobs off the pantry. It leads through into the room with the nice chairs from the kitchen. There really wasn't anything in that house to keep locked away in the pantry and why keep anything in that poor rotten house?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK ON THESE MOST EXCELLENT VIDEOS!!!! You have a artistic eye that appreciates simple beauty. I use to ride out to abandoned places to check out the old homes, barns, and outbuildings on my horse as a kid.Greatest time ever just admiring and studying how the old buildings were built and put together. Ironically, I now restore old homes, build old style barns, for a living as most don't know how with modern buildings being the norm. There is a great R.E.M. music video called,'Endof the World' that shows a kid and his dog exploring a old house you should check out.Very few take the time to really see things like how you are doing and it is great you ate sharing your discoveries.

I had to watch this before I left for some exploring this am. It looks great. I am so glad you captured the memory of the House of Rotten Floors. I will never be in that house again, so it's great to have that memory of the first time I ever went in. It's such a fascinating blend of Victorian and Art Deco. Thanks for the wonderful shout-out. You are so kind and such a wonderful person.

Hi Kappy(and was Ruby with you at the third house?)
I liked all three of these places! The first house seemed bright snd comfortable, and the French doors were pretty. The schoolhouse was amazing! And the third house was so big and ceilings so high-it seemed nice and open as well. Very cool. Thanks for showing us!

Fascinating structures you filmed for us today! The floorplan of that first farmhouse was definitely not the typical 4over4; it seems to have aged quickly. The schoolhouse was sturdy and seemed well lit with those tall windows! The last one was a true old classic, however denuded of it's old-time accoutrements. here's hoping it may still someday be brought back into renewed glory times. Really a nice collection of structures. TY for the tour!

Displace caught on fire and that's why they had to build it from the ground up again basically. My son used to go to this house for his after-school program. It was a beautiful place for children to go and learn. It felt so wonderful to walk up the big steps and going to the big four year with a nice stairs. It used to have a beautiful circle drive with Magnolia trees out front.

I love on the first house when you went upstairs and captured the old tub, the wood chair and vines coming through the window. Makes a great photo. I really liked the emptiness of the third house and can see it’s grandness.
