Hi - sorry it took so long to get back to you. When taking JPEGS using Sony cameras with this lens (16-55 2.8 G), the camera will automatically apply lens corrections before you see the image. This will greatly reduce any vignetting. If you are a stickler, then yes you will still see a little, but there is not much. Check out the pics in my full review. I would estimate less than 5% center - edge after corrections.
Sure there is an effect. It’s up to you if it’s significant. It’s not to me cause I keep shutter speeds high. Low light could be a prob but I’ll take 2.8 w no OSS over f4 w OSS any day. If you go w a 1.8 OSS prime you might do a little better in low light, but you lose the versatility of a zoom.
I just got one for use on my a6500 and returned it. The vignette at 16mm is huge - complete with black corners in RAW. The jpegs have it too. Also, there is no Lightroom lens profile yet. So to correct for it you have to crop. I am very disappointed!!!
Yes the vignette appears bad at 16mm. JPEGs look ok though and there is no reason to assume RAW files will look worse. Super sharp. With great micro-contrast. I need to test some more before I decide. Thanks for the comment.
As a stop-gap until Lightroom gets a profile for this lens, I'm forcing the kit lens (16-50 PZ) profile onto the 16-55. It's a very good match-this almost perfectly removes the distortion (I shot a grid at all the marked focal lengths to check). As part of the distortion correction the black corners get pushed out of the frame so the heavy vignette at the wide end is pretty much gone. Even with all the pixel pushing to fix the distortion this lens is far sharper than any of the other Sony zoom offerings in this focal range, even wide open.
Turns out the vignette could be not that big of a deal (except to pixel peepers). JPEGs look great cause they are corrected in camera. If raw files are similarly correctable in Lightroom or other post-processing, then I’m ok with that. Need to look at res chart to be sure. Thanks.
@@tnbtech262 I tested 16mm over and over on my a6500 (firmware 1.06) and the jpegs from the camera have small black corners - mostly in the lower left and right. It's severe in RAW and I can see it in the upper corners. At first, I thought maybe I had the hood on wrong, but no. I'm guessing/hoping there will be a firmware update to support this lens.
Koptervision is it possible you got a bad copy? My copy shows excellent jpegs. But dark corners in uncorrected raw files, and only when shooting wide open at 16mm.
Nice video. This lens is definitely on my list.
Thanks!
My Best lens
Mine too!
Hi im wondering if there are noticeable vignette on JPEG? Thanks

Will it effect for photography on a6400 as this lens does not support oss
