How good is that ocean cave oval. Love the blue stones too, awesome stuff Phil. I thought that matrix would be to tight to take much, but they did well.
play around with the exposure of the camera to get the correct color of the stones, if you’re using a phone download filmic pro, it will allow you to set the exposure manually, amazing stones m8, great job!
I have not ever treated anything like you are, so I don’t even have a good guess what your using. But, molasses is kind of that color, so maybe molasses? They turned out amazing! And will make amazing pieces! Can’t wait to see what you make them into!
I make pre-polish and final polish discs for flat attachment 6 inch...I use a soft pad so it really forms to the shape and works so fast with Diamond...Let me know if you would like try one...P.S. I am using the same final and pre-polish pads from 2 years ago with daily use!!!
G’day Kim, thanks for the offer, yes I am interested, if you can email me theopalmills@gmail.com I’ve had someone recently impersonating my channel, responding to viewers comments asking that they contact them for a prize. I am from now on asking that contact to me be through the email link in my video descriptions to be sure they are actually contacting me, please feel free to confirm my email address there, thanks, Phil. 🤪👍
Been watching for a while and enjoy your vids. I use to cut opal myself. A question that keeps coming to my mind with your treating of matrix. Are you using battery acid (a weak H2SO4) OR concentrated sulfuric acid
@@theopalmills Thanks for that. The reason for the question was, on my screen the black seems to be grey, but as you pointed out (after my question) it is your camera (or lighting?). Still wish I was cutting, sold all my gear and opals in the mid-late 80's
So here's my question. Did you neutralize that acid just to show is how to do it, or did you scoop out some of that neutralized acid solution to then treat your opal with? I think you used mostly fresh acid to expose your opal to, but why is it Amber colored? Fresh sulfuric acid is clear.
G’day Og DeMon, the neutralised acid no longer has an acidic function and would be a waste of time trying to use it for such, and no, fresh sulphuric acid is not water clear, you are literally looking at fresh 97-98% pure oil of vitriol and that is it’s colour. 🤪👍
@@theopalmills so altho neutralizing all that used acid wasn't specifically a part of treating new opal you just wanted to show people how it's done. I see.
No, no it’s not at all. Ribena is black currant concentrate, no artificial colour, flavour or sweetener, this is important because there is a big difference between sucrose (sugars from sugarcane) and fructose (sugars from fruits), as both sugars have carbon present. If you’re interested, it’s the difference between monosaccharides (such as fructose) and disaccharides (such as sucrose) courses.lumenlearning.com/boundless-biology/chapter/carbohydrates/ 🤪👍
Absolutely beautiful gemstones expecially that big blue Arora I'm guessing Sulfuric acid... I'm sorry I just have to say U shouldn't give away the answer in the video but great vid cheers
I’ve picked a lot up along the way, listened to a lot of people, and experimented, it wasn’t until someone explained the logic behind the particle size difference between sucrose and fructose sugars, that I am trying this method. 🤪👍
G’day mate, I cook them in sugar solution for at least 4 hrs, sometimes a lot longer and more tan one treatment, after the sugar it goes into hot sulphuric acid, again for at least 4 hrs. It can be done with heat in an oven, Riley Gunn aka 53frogs aka NN opals has TH-cam videos doing it that way. 🤪👍
Huh funny...I was just thinking about this as I picked up my phone. I was thinking, I've only just started my opal journey so maybe I should look more into matrix and treated opal before having the assumption it's rubbish. I'm still at the "can't be too good if it needs acid" stage but am starting to thaw on it a bit at least 😜
Can’t keep up with the videos but keep them rolling, great video.👍😁
I figure I won’t be able to make them forever, and the ones I don’t make never will be, it’s a little bit “Carpe diem.” 🤪👍
I was just watching you video from yesterday. Good timing.
WOW they have to be the best matrix you have ever done they look fantastic well done mate
If i were in Australia i would have been mad with opal
Great video we all love the great channel you have and keep cutting those great stones. I love the changes of from not treated to treated.👍😁
Hydracloric acid and Coca Cola , I really have no idea but it looks amazing, great work.
EJS family still enjoying the content

Absolutely fabulous Plil, whatever your alchemy is, it worked out very well.
they turned out pretty great, my guess is brake line fluid..

morning phil kids should be back from lightning ridge today later this arvo, they picked up the rolling mills including the bases cheers
Good job again Phil keep them coming 😀👍

Great vid , my Guess is Red Diesel
Cranberry juice for something different, or red wine
There is one main brand of sulphuric Acid that we use that is tea coloured.
I didn't see the answer anywhere, but I guess the solution is honey.
Honey is mostly glucose which is a bit smaller than sucrose.
It was Ribena (blackcurrant cordial) 🤪👍
give me just one stone sir, I'm from Indonesia and really like Andamooca rock and I like your channel👍🙏
brown sugar or golden syrup, ha ha you doing a great job mate
Congrats on 1000 subscribers
Ty 🤪👍

Sorry, yes, I’d been asked what I do with the used acid so thought I’d put it in to show a safe enough way to go about it.
Sir how much tempreture did you heat the stone ,and after heating which solution did you deep in,
Oh I know instead of sugar you might have used honey ?
Beautiful..love it+
Brown sugar
Brown sugar.
Is it solid andamooka matrix you are working with in this video looks really nice
Yes, they are all solid 🤪👍
Ribena is just a sugar syrup with blackberry,I doubt the results would be any different from just using fine sugar. Coke n sugar etc.
No, no it’s not at all. Ribena is black currant concentrate, no artificial colour, flavour or sweetener, this is important because there is a big difference between sucrose (sugars from sugarcane) and fructose (sugars from fruits), as both sugars have carbon present. @@theopalmills Maybe try 2 pieces from same stone, one with ribena one without.,see the results. It would be interesting
Can do, I’ll line up a host of different solutions and try them all with matrix cut from the same piece. 🤪👍
Treacle and water.
NICE. YOU CAN DO MAGIC;. YOU CAN DO ANYTHING AT ALL. The song. "America - You Can Do Magic"
Absolutely beautiful gemstones expecially that big blue Arora I'm guessing Sulfuric acid... I'm sorry I just have to say U shouldn't give away the answer in the video but great vid cheers
Lol, no, you’re meant to guess what the solution is that it’s hot soaked in before the acid, spoiler alert, it was Ribena 🤪👍
@@theopalmills oh what that's crazy as great idea were U taught or just picked it up somewhere along the way

@@theopalmills excellent sounds like fun, thanks for the information mate, keep up the great work can't wait to see what's up next 😁👍
I was thinking it was straight red cordial, basically watered down sugar with colour and flavour👌🏽
Glad to see you are showing us not to neutralise your acid to quickly 😏😏that was better than a mentos in a bottle of coke 🤣🤣🤣
I must admit some part of me wanted that to happen, but I didn’t expect it 🤪👍
The red color makes me think of grenadine syrup
I have heard of ppl using Ribena
You win, if you can email me at theopalmills@gmail.com but I’ll let others keep guessing for now 🤪👍
Added Carbon
Solution brown sugar and water ?
Jelly crystals
Hiya, burned Dr.Pepper is my thoughts.
Looks like it could be the red antifreeze
Raw sugar or Demura sugar ?
Red cordial 🤣
My wife said it looks like red sorghum starch.
What was the treatment please
G’day mate, I cook them in sugar solution for at least 4 hrs, sometimes a lot longer and more tan one treatment, after the sugar it goes into hot sulphuric acid, again for at least 4 hrs. @@theopalmills thanks I have a few bits ill have a go
Hi Phil it looks like beetroot juice too me.
Any recommendations for noodling in Andamooka or may be even a catch-up there. ? Cheers Dave 👍🇦🇺🍻
Hi Dave, I’m always up for noodling, there’s a couple of half decent spots, and yes if you’re up there I don’t mind catching up. 🤪👍
Excellent I will be in touch soon.
Is that beetroot juice?!?! wait maybe Cordial?!?! no no wait wait red wine vinegar!?!?
Looks like red wine 🧐
You do love to play don't you Phil.
I refuse to think I work. 🤪👍
ribeena
I’m gunna say good old red cordial 🤪🤪🤪
Meh, not a fan of treated opal sorry mate. Edit: only watch it because it's on your channel
I know how you feel, a couple of years ago and I wouldn’t have touched the stuff, but now I cringe at the deals I passed up. 🤪👍
