i thought drivers didnt need to leave a space anymore cus of the max verstappen rule... I thought when someone has the inside line nowadays they dont need to leave space anymore... remember max vs leclerc? all of the crashes were just like that incident but max didnt get anything ...
The main thing that makes me lean towards Lando deserving the penalty is that, according to the rules, the defending car has to leave a car width within the track limits no matter how much alongside the attacking car is. What helps Perez in this incident was that he was more than half a car length alongside Lando (in fact almost side by side), meaning that Lando didn't have complete claim to the line and the responsibility of avoiding a collision was shared equally. Whether Perez should've been there or not is irrelevant according to the rules - he WAS there and thus Lando should've left enough space.
Let's be honest... if not for Perez, Red bull would not be where they are. He is doing everything they need from a second driver. This is his first year in the car, and a lower spec one then Max.. I think he is doing awesome.
Max was at one point nearly 30s ahead while Perez was somewhere down in 7th... He really needed to easily beat 1 Mercedes today. Hamilton at one point was losing 0.5s a lap due to damage in 4th place and Perez wasn’t even there to pounce... This should’ve been the easiest RBR 1-2 in years and he wasn’t even on the podium. Furthermore, he drove with the agression of a rookie... This was an abysmal showing by Perez.
@@theglitch312 After the incident with Lando, he had car damage, and was in 10th. If he had not fended off Leclerc, he would have finished 7th, as both Ferrari's would of passed him. Going around the outside was a mistake, however everything he did after that was pretty good. You can't say he made a mistake going around the outside, and then give Leclerc a free pass for doing the same thing. He either raced well outside that one pass attempt, or Lando took P2 away from him.
@@theglitch312 are you aware he was pushed into the gravel "at some point"? How can you talk about him being so far behind as if it were purely on poor pace? He qualified 3rd, he was fighting for 2nd. He was unfairly pushed off. If Lando had played fair and they continued side to side through turns 4, 5, and 6 everyone would have said wow they had a great classy battle but instead Lando decided to play dirty and Sergio lost his race. Your attempt to play down Checo's race is abysmal. Being pushed off and then being given 10 seconds of penalty and still finishing above where Gasly and Albon normally would have is still an ok outcome for Redbull. He very well could have finished 8th or 9th if he was as incompetent as you think he is.
@@sethsauceda3677 If Max didn’t make a precautionary stop, he’d be nearly 40s in front of P2 by the end of the race... This car was easily the most dominant we’ve seen a car be since the Mercedes 2020 car. Meanwhile, Checo tried an outside move that we’ve seen go wrong multiple times already at this very same track. Yes, he should’ve been given more space. But he also had by far the fastest car on the grid and he tried a do-or-die move that you’d expect from a rookie... Also, moves like Lando’s usually are free of penalties. Crowding a car off track at corner exit has far too often been tolerated. So I don’t have a clue how a professional driver like Perez cannot see that he’s placing himself offside so to speak. If you do it, you need to be significantly ahead, else it’s likely you’ll get pushed wide. It’s been a thing for years now. Plus, that 10s penalty wasn’t some unlucky coincidence. He made his own luck. He knew Lando got a 5s penalty. The stewards were not tolerating it this race, which is a first I must say and a good change from what it used to be. So he knows a move like that will get penalised by these specific race stewards. And then he does it anyways... Not once, but twice! It was a horrible showing. At France and Baku, he was amazing. At Styria he was also good but unlucky with the slow stop. His qualy at Imola and here were also great. But here, he drove like a headless chicken in a ultra dominant car... I don’t really see how you can deny that.
@@theglitch312 Just an FYI... Checo and Max are not in the same car. Max has upgrades that Checo does not. They only had enough time to make one set. Hopefully in the next race, they will both have them.

Alonso: how did Vettel finish?
Engineer: he retired
Alonso: Karma

My best bit was Lando saying he enjoyed seeing all the Orange in the crowd there to support McLaren :D
I don’t have to stay up to late now that’s good!!
Grand Slam Baby!! haven't heard anyone discuss this yet..gratz maxy
That penalty was bull**** 😂 Landooo
Explain
If hamilton got a penalty in that exact same position in 2020, Lando also gets one!
Well done not knocking down your green screen panel for once Matt! I was actually waiting for that to happen 😂😂

Poor checo. The formula 1 race gods cursed him today but blessed lando
I know. Especially his 200th start
@@mw4518 oh geez I didn’t even know that 😭
Let's be honest... if not for Perez, Red bull would not be where they are.
Did Hamilton just gave himself a big compliment when he said Lando is such a great driver after overtaking him…? 😌
